  1. most encoder-decoders units have a serial/485 port for this. the protocol usually does not mater. [it will pass anything you throw at it] note the Axis M7001 only does D1 [the 485 ports are on the side] http://www.axis.com/products/cam_m7001/index.htm spec's are in the install manual no good if you want megapixel z
  2. dont waste any more time with analog gear go IP and get that great picture your after ! [at least 1.3MP] z
  3. test the cams next to the DVR with short leads first. then you can use a small12v battery at the end -to power the camera to see if its a "power" problem. z
  4. Some of the Avigilon IP cameras will take a canon lens EF/s something like one of these > http://www.canon.com.au/products/cameras_lenses_accessories/telephoto_zoom_lenses/ef100_400mmLusmLens.aspx on a HD camera EF mount > http://www.avigilon.com/products/cameras-video/ sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

So much to learn, so little time.

save a lot of pain and set the network up on another switch or a least a VLAN for the security video segment. z
  6. make sure you set up the comms first that will kill it ! ie the baud rate and port etc z
  7. that bogus...who focus`s a IP camera with a 3 inch screen ! I have tried that program on a 800x500res HTC HD and its no good just too small. [ok for aiming only] What you need is a Laptop, POE injector and 12v gel cell . -sometimes if you have access you can do it via WIFI to your lappy my 2c
  8. yes its not a good idea to blast a baby with cheap IR from ebay ! better off with a good low light camera and a small light the AXIS LED will be to harsh also
  9. Damm that Alien technology must be expensive..... no motion blur at night !

    Help with Capture PTZ Camera

    about 5v
  11. I get this same lame spiel all the time "but joes pluming can do for less..." or "we have a quote for blah blah...." And I say do you want a cheap system or a good system ! When the police turn up wanting a picture of the 'perp' do you want to look like an chump or look good with a Hi-res photo.....? simple as that !
  12. but.... for only 10k I can have a DSLR camera like a canon 5D mark2 @21 megpixels and remote control it. then again...... I just sold my canon 40d with a 28-300 L series lens because the night capability was poor. [about 6k of gear new here] Instead i've bought a Canon SX1-is just for day shots and looking at IR modified SLRs for night shots. i`ll post a few when i get one.. z

    Help with Capture PTZ Camera

make sure the 485 leads are the right polarity
  15. actually win 2000Ent can use 8Gb I have built 100`s of servers just depends on the OS really .
  16. oh forgot to add, your Dell's are probably Q64bit-Zeon's, depending on the OS do you have enough RAM ?. more the better I would be splitting the system into 2 the "old" analog and the new IP camera servers, the Analog is bringing down the performance of the IP cams. just not fair to the shiny new IP cams..... also get rid of all the unnecessary services on the OS even get rid of netbios in the TCP settings -if you dont use MS file sharing etc. You could Vlan each camera system which might help a bit, but using netgear [yuk] i dont think they can do "grown up's" networking my 2c
  17. The acti 1311 IP camera has video out ! But I adjust focus with a hi-res laptop if it needs it... just being picky....
  18. FYI http://www.isorainbow.com/lens_calc.htm to work it out
  19. rainman looks to me your IR spotlight is pointing at the ground tilt it up ! your lighting up the dirt not van guy....

PTZ with a mind of its own

make sure the power to it is correct and the data is clean -does sound like internal issues but not 2 cams at a time I would think Run the cams without your controller, just a laptop -converter and a PTZ program to baseline the problem. Might even be noise on the data lines. grab my free one if you like http://www.zmx.com.au/software.htm z

    One for the pros!

sounds like a job for an extreme ANPR regX and a descent microwave link, or a day night IP camera with a wifi link back to the server/DVR/NVR. Just getting a black & white pic of the number plate does not really cut it without having an overview of the car and driver -passengers etc. I would be running both ANPR and a hi-res IP cam to do the job right. If the choke point is tight and the lighting ok you could just use the IP cam. at least 1.3Mp a solar setup for sure. z

Here we go again!! Pelco Alternatives

I second GANZ, but then I would be installing IP cameras not analog ! z
  24. solar panel, charger and battery and an AXIS m1011-w or a 206-207 wireless will do the job well, motion detection built in. If you want IR then I would use an ACTI IR IP camera good bang for buck 1311 etc The M series you can even record a warning message as the light comes on. z
  25. wasn't that Somali pirates at your car... I know some one who can fix that !
