What kind of wireless security cameras are most popular?
zmxtech replied to leigh's topic in Security Cameras
there are no good wireless cameras they are all rubbish unless you custom design one. either encrypted COFDM or WIFI with WPA are worthy there might be a few more. netgear, linksys, Ebay WIFI cams etc also rubbish. these cameras have the following BAD attributes: analog low TX power no antenna socket no encryption cheap noisy CCD sensors IR blaster LEDs that saturate the area No IRIS No IR cut filter IR focus shift Are on video sender bands 900/2.4/5.8 oh yes I wasted heaps of money on the rubbish... -

I think you are getting confused with thermal cameras, I would use the term "flare" not hot

nar the paint washes of with water... fill it with INK ! -
your problem is not really the camera its the lack of light on the whole scene. If you had spotlights for color and or IR for the night mode your problem would go away. Also you really need a cam up on the road to get plates and IDs etc the camera is just missing the other half of what it needs -light ! z

no luck I tried the setting to make it `pelco` and all it did was change the cameras address to a larger one -even after re-booting. The beta version of Vidguard now has Panasonic C protocol and it works fine I tested it for the author. -don't know if its out yet -great test program. z -
Zooming from a distance has other factors like heat rise, rain and fog that will block your image on some days and does not work well with IR. Also unless the camera is up high headlights can cause grief -it will mask whats going on down at the gate at night. [camera dependent] If you can get a local camera it is always going to beat a big lens -especially at night. [sending the gate cam via wireless is better] Is it well illuminated ? how much detail do you need ? z

HELP Designing a wireless point to point surveillance system
zmxtech replied to iestx's topic in System Design
sharp and good looking.... Make sure the camera has an IR cut filter at least for IR get a demo at night that will sort em out real quick. -
your talking about POE which uses an injector or is powered from the POE switch. UPS will make no difference a 12v short will kill the PC thats why I love IP cams !

panasonic pelco-P ? any Pc programmes available?

PM me if you want it -from memory it took hours of searching.... this forum should have a files section ! -
The best optical is easy -right zoom on the subject and IR corrected len's to stop focus shift at night. IR cut filters on the CAM of course The 'best picture' is an IP cam and the right lens with IR illumination to fill the gaps if its dark and a DVR that does not compress the hell out of the picture. but more important is the right settings you can have the same camera and 10 installers and only one might get it right -you have to know what you are doing -at least come back at night and tune the setup. z

yep even if you get a great shot the police will say "oh yerr him he steals a lot -he`s got no fixed address ! " I would go for one of those cheap Ebay SD based DVRs that has motion detection and stick a 4Gb card in it. You cant point an IR camera thru the glass it will reflect back -you will need a separate cam and IR light for night . If its during the day a pin hole lens color cam should do the trick... -
if you can hide some IR illumination -even a few high powered diodes it can make a big difference [900+nM] get your self the sony ex-view ship set for your camera the KT&C KPC-S20P1 is a bit `low end` z

Opinions on ACTi 1.3 megapix cameras ?
zmxtech replied to ak357's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
does not work for me ? -
im talking price yes but the technology is here now, most new consumer cams will do 30fps ! at d1 or so - it's not as if they need to design new stuff ! It was the same for camcorders years ago they out performed many security cams ...

in your "prison" I would use IP cams everywhere CAT 5 and switches/fibre... ..but... coax is always going to be better than converting it to cat5 and back again -unless the distance is too far. -would not do it for microphones at all. my 2c

wireless through a substation
zmxtech replied to jisaac's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I would trial it for a week end to end, I dont think you would have much of a problem @2.4ghz but you would have to make sure the signal is 100% >ie 2 high gain antennas pointing at each other and 9dbi for multipoints the best way to test it would be a spectrum analyser to check the amount of interference there @2.4ghz [or at least a USB wi-spy unit] a cheezy cheap way would be 2.4ghz analog video senders TX and RX and see if there is rubbish on the picture ! z -
IP cameras need to catch up fast, the color glossies sales put out don't match the actual performance. or its just lacking -Housings how bizzare can you go.... -colors most are white? gimmy some black cams ! NOT WHITE ! -The "Artificial Price" what a Con! for $1000 you get 1mp if your lucky, I can buy a 12mp digital camera with 12x optical for half that..? I nearly made the mistake of buying an '212' IP cam yesterday fantastic spec's 3Mp woohh great -till it gets dark then it just keeps the wall warm till morning... [not good enough for $1000 ! ] -would like to see some acti 1432~ IR bullet cam examples at night ? Im all better now ive got coffee..... z

you could put an wireless AP on the DVR's network port and bingo ! then you can use a [PC & WIFi client] -and its secure -maybe a 16Dbi + WIFI antenna pointing back to your base to make sure the signal gets there. sending out encrypted analog video would be cheap & nasty ! my 2c
