have you tried the microsoft ones and the video cards ? I find you have to go up and down a few versions to get it right z

they need a power on connection. PC supplys are normally cheap and un-reliable. yep get a real one !

Fiber seperating two schools
zmxtech replied to protecvideo's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
the 2 schools should be connected by 2 routers\switches -GBit if you can. could use IP cams or video servers and put the video over the wire then whole system, is flexible. The DVR might have a network connection that can control the PTZ cams my 2c -
Your backhaul should be seperate link ? speeds -what is the bandwidth of each cam freq -2.4or 5ghz ? antennas omnis I guess ? power may need adjusting interference\other users -do a site survey "mesh" -nice buzzword sales people use. z

What is a GOOD residential video surveillance system??
zmxtech replied to jsavchak's topic in General Digital Discussion
If you want "catch" them you will need to get a face shot not just an overview of the scene -so be careful with camera placement you might need a few 8 or 12mm lens`s to get up close. z -
Easy fix an IR LASER pointed at the camera he wont see the beam but his camera will be flared out. you will need an IR camera to aim its beam If your really nasty modulate it at say 8hz will drive ham crazy ah... revenge though technology ...... ps you can get LASER illuminators from night vision shops they use them to augment gen 1 stuff etc.. z

have you tried an IR spot light aimed at the car -it will go through the glass and out do the reflection in most cases [yes in the day time also] I have gone down the polarising path and cars have many of types of glass and tinting that will keep you busy. my 2c

Why Milestone system?
zmxtech replied to GV.Jackie's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Some Options software should have that are important Motion detection options -gimme lots you cant have enough bandwidth and image size image "no send" grey-areas for IP cams my 2c -
I think your cameras positions and optics need a tweek, to protect that area you need a cam zoomed in up the driveway to capture plates and people and few overview cams [cameras wide angle], once you have their face or plate you just want to see what there doing. I would spend 80% of your budget just on the `face and plate` cam and some IR cams with IR floods to fill in the gaps in coverage if neded. Or some good quality IR sensors to turn on some floods oh and a fence my 2c

good solid wireless connection for two cameras
zmxtech replied to jeromephone's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
yep VST got it...WIFi is the go! the analog links are 3 times the price, and the IP cams are lagging a bit with day-night tech, I would go for day\night cam -whatever you like 1x wifi link kit [3mile kit] 1xvideo server single or quad analog inputs dont forget to use wep/WPA encryption If you can find IP cam that will do the business use it ! my 2c zmx -
very interesting watched the launch today on the web I had a poke around the web for more info rocketcam pics of the unit > http://www.eclipticenterprises.com/products_rocketcam_avs.php http://www.eclipticenterprises.com/ http://www.photonics.com/content/spectra/2003/January/applications/65734.aspx z

Im looking at this also for my 3g handset its called RTSP/RTP protocol lots of webcams\IP cams do it out of the box.[PT 7135 netwatch]is an example some can control PTZ. z

maybe a IR flood above to fill in the gaps, I know the casinos like to read the chips from a distance. m

get a static IP -its $10 a month more here ! z

IP camera software for network with 250 cameras
zmxtech replied to syscon's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I work for a major telco and we have AXIS PTZ IP CAMs at the bigger sites. smaller moblile fone huts etc just a door alarm. some have a low bandwidth NET connection that goes thru the microwave links -Ok for 1FPS or motion detect mode. No ones going to monitor 250 cams? do you need to record all the time ? If the IP CAMs are on 'motion detect' its easy there will be low overhead The motion detection also has its problems -clouds/trees/shadows etc. must be tuned for each site to stop false alarms -some cams hook into the alarm\PIR sensors -could be the go -whats the bandwidth of the sites 64k ? -and the RES of your CAMs For Storage I would use a net apps filer> tho I never got the Tee-shirt ! It will handle 250 CAMS with ease [iSPs use them] z -
Hilly terrrain with dense forest - no line of site
zmxtech replied to sbbamafan's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
IP/WIFI or analog/digital does not matter really its the type of trees that matter. if they are pine ohhh bad luck -depends on there spacing and canopy hieght. and how much water is in them. blah blah..... Go for a lower freq first like 900mhz , use a couple of small high gain antennas like 15Dbi beams\panels, and of course run some grunt, 1 watt of power. stay away from 2.4ghz for forest's -you can get lucky tho. A High power WIFI sytem may future proof the system -again run boosters and high gain antennas. [antenna alignment is also important] If it was a comerical system they would go over it or around it. my 2c z -
yes [generic answer] you will need to find the camera\lens connections layout and put a current limited voltage accross the lens's control pins. -and disconect the old control signals that went to the lens. z
-
I cant play your file its an .EXE? avi,mpg ok but exe ? no way.... anyway...> IF the volts and amps current drawn are ok then check the composite video level [CRO] you can only check if the power is clean with this not a meter.? you could try a video amp to see if theres a problem also Some cheaper cams do this if the sun is too bright, you could put a filter in front of the lens to check. [iR cut one] Try a wireless conection -then you can discount the coax YES it could be a strong transmitter -a cheap bug finder will tell or a spec ann if you can borrow one -clip around ferrites if its that. Isolate the ground -maybe cant think of any more need coffee....

Elevator Switching transients Tripping DVR Motion Detector
zmxtech replied to Gyro Gearloose's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
camera side> A crappy plug pack without proper regulation will cause the nasties to get thu A higher quality one\maybe even a switchmode. make sure it`s regulated not just rough DC. DVR side [AC power] > UPS for sure should fix it [there should be a UPS on the DVR\camera anyway] -the "smart" Bad guys always turn the power off !! Good quality filter may fix it -like the ones for HIFI It may be induced also. some ferrite clamp filters as a last resort my 2c[/b] -
If a bullet cam fills with water the gun powder gets wet and they dont work. z
-
I have seen the best domes fill with water even well sealed ones - the water can sneek in via the cables -or just condensation, go for a bullet style cam 100% water proof ! z
-
sounds like they were all gen locked, you might need to flick the switch to "internal sync" -if it has this if that fails look at the signal on a CRO, this guy who sold them as working got them out of a dumpster probably -after the owner had lightning strike ! z

need help in CCTV data storage
zmxtech replied to flyingxspirit's topic in General Digital Discussion
HDD are cheap 320Gb to 750Gb and 1 terabytes out now, the price break here are the 320Gb around AU$100 4 of those in a RAID 5 sweet.... Or buy a external USB HDD like a 500Gb Maxtor etc, as the DVR`s secondary drive. my 2c -
howdi folks... I have a running argument.. Whats better for a small car park etc at night, to ID perps [lighting@ 5lux or so] 1/color/ IR active illumination with IR cut filter lens hi-res black n white pic at night. or 2/Good quality Hi-res low noise and all that .001lux etc color.that does not go b&W mode -using the security lights to light up when needed I think No2 is better because you can tell the colors of cars people etc B&W picture you cannot tho b&w with IR might give better detail -you cant tell the police "it was a black n white pickup".... -my own cams tests show some IR cams make you look like a vampire and make clothes look funky im running a test with two cams at the same time same position in motion detect mode -well see -so far the color wins zmx

The exact answer is not enough ?
