I built a new house last year, located in a very rural area. I asked for prewiring for 8 cameras. 6 outside and 2 inside. Now I have no idea what cable was installed. The security company that wired my home has closed permenently and I've only just started to search for camera systems. However, I see such things as IP and TVL and then wireless cameras. Unsure what to buy! Are IP and TVL the same? I was about to purchase a $1500 Lorex system but I'm not sure if the IP cameras are what I need... I opened the faceplates inside my home and I see a yellow and white cable with an open end. Clueless I know! Thank you so much for any words of wisdom.

Thank you for commenting. I was wrong, the cable is solid yellow. Here is a photo. I should add, my house has excellent Internet (Verizon fios I think it's called) No phone or cable lines. Thank you!
