Quick question.... I've got a LaView 8 channel NVR with built in PoE switches and will have 6 cameras attached right now. My question is... do these things put off too much heat to be stored in a somewhat small coat closet with no venting? I will have the wires going up thru the ceiling then coming out to the router, the cameras and a monitor.. so the only piece of electronics in the closet will be the NVR itself. Also, it's in my house, so the surrounding area will always be climate controlled. Thanks

Ok, I have that system on the way. But I have one more question - should I be using Cat6 since I'm running all new line? Doesn't seem like the price will be that much more. Also, if it matters, one of the cameras will be just over 100 feet away at the end of my driveway.

Cool thanks. I'm having trouble figuring out where Hikvision fits into the hierarchy of quality. Seems like it's maybe better than average but def not top of the line. Is that fairly accurate?

Hey everyone, Due to some recent acts of vandalism I've recently decided to set up a surveillance system at my residence. I've been doing a lot of reading but it seems specific reviews are hard to come by. Was wondering if anyone had anything negative to say about the LaView LV-KN988P86A4 setup? I've got to run one camera down to the end of the driveway - approx 150ft, and the rest will be at the house, all on the exterior. I need good night vision, up to about 50ft away and the ability to remote view. But my budget is pretty small at the moment, I'd like to stay under $700. NewEgg has that LaView system for $600 and I can add a 2TB HDD for another $120. Any suggestion about what brand or system I should be looking at other than this would be awesome. I've read the "comprehensive" list that is a sticky in the IP/Megapixel forum. Thanks!
