  1. Hello everybody. I would like to say this forum has been excellent. I learned about the Hikvision quality here. After a almost a week of looking I finally ordered 2 of the bullets 2032, and 1 Exir turret 2332. I also bought myself a TG link 8 port POE switch TP-LINK TL-SG1008P. I live in a row house in New York so I think 3 cameras will be enough. My next step is deciding on an NVR system. I dont mind paying for quality but since I only have 3 3MP cams, could someone please recommend a good fit? It appears that a Hikvision NVR would be a good choice for compatibility. I also heard about blue iris. I have a macbook air from 2011, basic 1.4 GHz intel core duo with 2GB memory. would this work for blue iris? I am sorry if I sound ignorant but I have almost no knowledge in this area and it seems everyone here is advanced with computers and cam systems. I would prefer to use a NVR. I know I'm in for a hell of a time setting it all up but I saved the link to a few videos that simply the setup. Drilling through the brick outside is gonna be fun too lol. Thank you very much for everyones time and expertise.
  2. verizon isnt allowing me to setup the email using outgoing.verizon.net as senders address, says address not valid the android scan feature doesnt work on my phone after i scanned it, after it visits the url it says "item not found" I tried downloading a different swannview app and again its taking hours to download without much luck. at this point id be happy to just see the cameras from my phone somehow. I shoud just stick to my day job lol i remember a post sometime back about changing the ip address with dhcp? is this advised? looks like all my ports http rtsp and server are inactive with no external ip address showing
  3. Hello everybody: So I just finished installing my first camera. If anybody needs to know the hikvision 2032/swann uses a 1/4 masonry drill bit for the plastic anchor, I went into the mortar which was redone a few years ago. I used a corded 3/8 drill and did not need a hammer drill. My issue is I cant get the swann system to email alerts and I cant see the cams on my android phone ot at an IP address. I followed the instructions, used a gmail email but when i hit test it says "failed to send test email" I see other settings like NTP, NAT, SNMP, PPPOE etc. Anyone point me in the right direction? Also do u guys use continuos record or motion detect ?
  4. Thank you very much again Zr1 for taking your time out for me. I will try these suggestions shortly. Have a great day!!

My issue is I cant get the swann system to email alerts, no biggie, but the swannview plus for android doesn't install after 2 hrs "downolading" and I cant figure how to assign and see at a secure IP address. I was able to download swannview plus for my mac system however which is nice. Anyone point me in the right direction? thank you so much!
  6. Hello agin: I want to buy a hikvision NVR. I only will run 2 or 3 camera 3MP. Will the hikvision HIK-DS-7604NI-SE/P be good enough? Is it easy to install a hard drive or should i pay them to do it? Will I get shafted with a garbage hard drive if i go that rout. my cameras are already in the mail and i spent lots of time over this and am going nuts. please help me find the right products from a trusted seller with warranty. yhank you all so much again!
  7. So I bought the silicone tape and am ready to give it a go mounting the cam tomorrow. I bough a bosch set of blue masonry drill bits to go about 1.25 inches into the mortar. Does anyone know if the plastic anchor uses a 1/4 bit or 3/16? Thanks
  8. I was gonna drill through the edge of the plastic window frame but.... Now it looks like the connectors they sent dont fit and the instruction book says to use weatherproof tape and that the connectors are only if you are "cutting your own ethernet cable.." Seriously.... That is why I paid the extra for this kit from costco after returning the bits n pieces of hikvisions because i knew they were time consuming.. Am I missing something. is there a way to use these connectors without buying or cutting new cables else Im sending this crap back and lost about 2 weeks of headache with no system
  9. Hi guys So i received the kit yesterday http://www.costco.com/Swann-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-4-3MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100146086.html In regards to the wiring I would prefer to run it through the vertical edge of my vinyl window frame rather than through the brick. Is this acceptable? If I silicone the hole will it stop water from entering the window? Also If I drill into the mortar to mount the camera, will the 3 plastic anchors and screws they sent with the kit be hold the camera properly. We really just want to get this installed so we can finally go on vacation. The whole CCTV decision has been verhy stressful to say the least. Thank you everybody for your help and guidance
  10. thanks ZR1 my problem now is, can I drill through the inside wall about 18 inches or so to the outside brick and make a hole to run the wire. that way i can mount the camera by opening the widow and connecting everything; or do I have to begin the drilling on the outside and drill through the house into the bedroom. The later wont be feasible since I don't have a two story ladder. what do you think about flat patch ethernet cables to run at window crack http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Unlimited-UTP-1800-25W-Patch-White/dp/B0007QQJWA/ref=pd_sim_147_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=078163BQ4M7D0FV9Q422 Thanks again
