Sorry to hear the system is not what you imagined. I use the GV-1240´s and cameras that are a quarter of the price; getting better results. So there is hope. Your image appears compressed and possibly out of focus. Stick to Mpeg4. Record quality 5. As a side note, you may get sharper results from 640x480. Theres some weirdness at D1 with PAL giving those black borders. Tweak it out.

My friend and I are going to update his IP cameras in his holiday villa. Budget: $500 per cam. Location: two indoor, two outdoor. Enviroment: Sunny, dry, dusty climate. For a couple of years he has been using the old Dlink DCS-53300w A 1lux Pan Tilt IP cam http://www.dlink.com/products/?model=DCS-5300 Initially I intended to install Axis 207s. But he likes the Pan Tilt and digital zoom. So I proposed the Panasonic BB-HCM311 http://panasonic.co.jp/pcc/products/en/netwkcam/lineup/bb-hcm311/partnames.html However this one seems to be a 3 lux cam. Axis 207 pros: image quality - price cons: doesnt fit outdoor housing - No PTZ (the axis212 is 10lux ) Panasonic pros: ummm price? cons: 3 lux - rated for outdoor use but too easy to steal So im kinda lacking direction. Anyone point me the right way?

The driver? I did this but didn't fix the problem. Download the "audio codec" from geovision. Or export a video from the Event log as an .exe. Run it, and it should re-install the codec. As Rory stated, disable to firewall and try again. Im leaning toward the firewall TBH

Hope to fit some Axis/Panasonic IP cams in standard outdoor camera housings. Yeah i know, "google it" but im getting conflicting info :/

Working on this myself on a consumer level. Nothing to note yet. Im seeing outdoor cams rated for -10C to 60C. Even with that you would need a heated enclosure.

True. Still judging the height of that hurdle. Axis do IP66 versions, but out of budget. The panasonic bb-hcm531 is IP66 and within budget. http://panasonic.co.jp/pcc/products/en/netwkcam/lineup/bb-hcm531/index.html 10cm by 10cm. Still looking for a secure outdoor enclosure.

Sorry, I should add, I hear good things about them in this forum as entry level DVR´s. Just not easily available in my part of europe. Scorpion has great experience in this area, he will look after you well.

In my limited experience in these types of units: JPEG sharper image bigger files sizes. jerky playback with live internet veiwing MPEG4 Slightly blurred image due to compression artifacts (tweak it out) smaller file sizes. near realtime internet viewing with 1 camera Outside of the US, Avermedia seems to be the popular entry level DVR. Never heard of avtech/cpcam/nubixLT till I visited this forum.

Just so I understand, You dont use Co-ax and BNC connectors for your installs. You use Cat5 and baluns? (A balun being a device to connect Cat5 cable to a BNC connector). Do you use one cat5 cable per camera? Or run one cable to the area and split the twisted pair off to each camera?

Thanks norm. Does the SA6416 produce better images than the EB1304? If so, are we talking seriously better? (The SA6416 could be compared to an embedded Geovision GV-1480, so I know what to expect from one of them).

Originally I was considering recommending using 2 pairs as network traffic is only carried on 4 of the 8 wires. But that may make the interference worse. Nothing to loose by trying though.

Question for you guys. The Axis 207 series looks too tall to fit in a standard CCTV camera housing. The 207w front face is 8.5cm x 7.5cm (3.3inches x 3inches). Can someone check a housing to see if oun would fit?
