Mega pix IP cameras for exterior home coverage
photys replied to skane's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Cheers metafizx. Just spent half an hour testing IR lenses. Tested with several IR lens removed from cheap bullet/board cams. IR lighting supplied by an standard IR Bullet cam (20m IR, 850nm) 3.8mm to 12mm lenses tested. Pros: Great IR results. Especially bouncing IR off ceiling or at 45 degrees. Same results I would expect from any IR bullet/board cam. Cons: Heavy purple colour cast in IR and normal lighting conditions. Turning down the colour provided good black and white images. Problems seeing red objects. Red writing on my wall chart dissapeared. Could not screw in my 12mm lenses, they were too short -
i have a toughie question about tv out.

Im really pleased you got this working. Bottom line, to save time and hassle, tape up 2 cat5´s to your existing run and pull them through. Not that you will do it, but bear it in mind for next time. -
Ensure the motherboards northbridge and southbridge are Intel and you should be fine. There is a PDF file here with tested computer: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=8971 The newer "Combo" cards are more picky with hardware (gv-1120 to gv-1480) I even got the gv-800-8 running on an AMD 1.8ghz with 16mb graphics card. Interesting idea on the external hard drive. Does anyone have practical experience of the relative transfer speeds of USB 2.0 and SATA?

Was called in to add five cameras to an existing system. The in-house electrician available to me missed every meeting over a 4 week period. After one too many excuses, I took the advice of the original installers and 2 different electricians. The existing eight 12Volt cams were running off a 13.8Volt 7Amp power pack. Both the electricians and original installers crunched the numbers and said "plug em in, your fine" Seems the voltage loss was minimal and that extra voltage fried the cameras. So im sat here with the deposit spent, no final payment and only myself to blame :/

I have 8 that have never crashed Contact Geovision support. they reply with solutions within 24 hours. Bear in mind the time difference between you and Taiwan. If you want us to help, post the following: ..........EDIT, wot ken said

How do you guy's focus a camera with out two pepole??
photys replied to GunRunner1's topic in Test Bench
I measure out the desired point of focus on-site. At home, I plug into my DVR or TV and focus under day and night conditions. -
He did use a speaker analogy....... Right now, he is supplying power packs and taking responsibility for the electricity. Will speak to him again when he puts in the new power.

8.12 resolved these issues for me However, Vista and IE 7 are still a disgraceful mess. Specifically what problem are you having.

Black borders on PAL D1 GV-1280 confirmed.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007350653,00.html Far too much compression IMO Whats your opinion on their system?

Im a Scotsman, moved here in my twenties. Semi independent Spanish islands. In many ways, a tiny version of your island Rory.

According to my manual for the GV-1240´s, yes. Never tried it personaly. You can scan through 3 channels, full screen, setting the scan interval and brightness/contrast/sat/hue of each camera. Or on a screen division of 4 you can show those 3 cameras. Quote from manual: "When the DSP spot monitor feature is enabled, DSP overlay will be disabled in the main system". Meaning slightly jerky live display on the main system screen. Im sure theres a member who has personal experience with this.

Plastic chasis Pre tested every cam. They worked on site for 2 days. It was a 1 channel power supply. At the moment I belive that to be the problem. Spanish Islands west of Africa. 220V. There are "trip switch" fuses on the mains power board. Hey it was only 5 years ago that Spain introduced an earth on each plug! Previously only 2 pin plugs. I was accoustomed to the UK 3 pin plug with built in fuse.

whats your impression to "made in China"--survey
photys replied to leo0929's topic in Security Cameras
I have no problem with MIC. I live in Europe and I cant think of anything in my life that is made in UK or US. In my opinion, its not the "few unscrupulous companies" that are the problem, its social conditioning. I think each country has had a differing amount of social conditioning to think badly of products manufactured in the far east. The goal of each countrys social conditioning is to make the populace belive their products and morals are superior. Each year the walls of this conditioning are being eroded. Principaly due to cheap travel, the internet and good drugs or something Solutions? An erosion of social conditioning by each individual broadening his horizons with travel, education or the internet. -
Hilly terrrain with dense forest - no line of site

I have set up some basic 10 mile wireless internet bridges. But it occurs to me, do the antennas need to be pointed directly at each other? If you pointed both antennas up say 30 degrees, wouldnt the signals cross above the canopy? Ie, rather than line of sight. AP-----AP shoot the signals through each other above the canopy. ...../\ ..../...\ .../.....\ AP.......AP Would that work? -
Scorpion: Superstar. Still digesting it all. New power supply is does not have individual fuses. Next one will. It is also 13.8volts. Seems to be the standard kit available here. But the electrician opened it up and twisted a dial so it outputs 12.2. Giving us 12.06 under load at the camera end. Almost perfect! I will be researching proper power supplys for camera systems. I envisage a 16 port wall mounted panel with individual fuses and ability to tune output voltage and amps....... in my dreams lol
-
He talked about 8 connection points on each of the new power supply units, each with its own fuse. We will see what he turns up with. Hey! What trips a fuse? Volts, amps......too much, too little? Nevermind, time to google the electricity 101 books.

Yet Another Newbie says 'hi' and asks for advice
photys replied to ravedog's topic in General Digital Discussion
I belive Ravedog is doing his own home installation. You might want to ask this guy http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=9452&highlight= Ravedog, Rory collated some great threads on IR and low light camera situations. http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=6122 The only Java based web viewer I know of is an option with the Axis IP cams. Sure there are others. That may deserve a new post. Its an interesting point. -
Well the culprits were Ohms and resistance im told.... Electrician visited and told us that it was a nice job with the right type of wire and terminators etc, except there were too many wires running from the power pack. Seems the volts and amps were acceptable (if slightly high), but too many cameras on these power packs creates resistance and a drop(?) of Ohms. Got 2 fresh power packs with surge protection arriving tomorrow. 5 cameras winging their way from the UK. 2500 mile trip to get to me :/ Too few Ohms messed up my Karma.

Huge difference on my monitor. First image looks way out of focus. Although, the image sizes are differnet? Top image 540 pixels in hight Bottom image 484 minus the blue band...maybe 440 pixels? Might be some post processing on bottom image to make it appear sharper?

Hey Cobalt Welcome to the board. It occurs to me that you dont stop learning about CCTV. Like any good subject. Just gotta take the plunge on equipment when you think your ready. Take advantage of on-line live demos to get some real-world examples. Google is your friend Demo an Axis 207 online. Its a 1lux 4CIF cam with built in web server and free recording softwear. Plug it into your computer and you got a 1 channel DVR. I grabbed one, plugged it into my laptop and use it for site surveys. Lets me estimate the Lux level and lens needed for the job.

Hey Rory, I hope your Sanyo is ok.

13.80 at power supply. 13.55 under load at faulty camera 13.55 under load at working camera. If I get the opportunity, I will test with all cameras disconnected. I was surprised as the reason the original installer put the 13.8 volt power supply in was that there were some 30m to 40m cable runs. He assumed a much greater voltage drop at the camera end. Cable used was copper strand 1mm (or 18AWG). Recommended by both third party electricians. The original 8 cameras use siamese with what looks like 20AWG. 18AWG can carry over 2 amps and the cameras drew around 0.5 amps. Camera details: http://www.jscctv.com/datasheet/new/Dome%20Cameras/JCC-IR963D_IR963HQD.pdf ummmmm, client demanded a cheap white dome :/ Aww feck! IR is rated for 6000 hours of use, thats a year of use. Remind me never to go OEM again. Not been to Florida for a few years........ it´s tempting.
-
If the voltage didnt fry them, what else could do it? If they shorted out, would I still get a voltage reading on the camera end of the wire? Bear in mind the original 8 cameras on the same circuit were still running. I just guessed that the new cameras were more sensitive to the extra Volts that the original cameras. Scorpion: 13.5 / 13.6 under load, measured at the camera end, after the cameras fried. I remember your post some time ago mentioning your home made tester. I carefully stripped one of the cams and discovered a half burt "quality control" paper sticker! If I lived in the US i would be lawyered-up by now Gotta take a picture if that and make it my board signature!

I´m guessing the extra voltage and this heat wave killed em :/ Still cant get the electrician........ Standard European 12 volt bullet cams. Boxed 13.8 volt, 7 amp power supply with + and - screw on terminals to add however many wires you have. 7 Amp version of this http://www.skytronic.co.uk/product/product.php?s=650.651 Wires were crimped onto a terminator and screwed on. No emails, nothing written. Tested the end of the cable and its getting 13.6 volts...... Over the +/- 10% the cameras are rated for. Just found out three cameras have gone down in the past two years, the electrician checked the system and signed off on it. Maybe thats why he was dodging the meetings :/ The event log shows the cameras dropping one at a time over a 40 minute period. Dumb dumb dumb...... dont listen to an electrician, make them sign off on the work before you plug anything in. Whichever way I look at it, i´m biting these bullets! HA! ..... first time I´ve smiled all day )
