  1. I made an impulse buy of the Lorex LW2742. I've barely opened the package but I don't want to charge the battery for 24 hours, hook it up, and start troubleshooting to find the answer to my simple question: can I disable the microphone? I live in the draconian state of California and don't want to be arrested or have evidence nullified because my security camera recorded the conversation of two criminals discussing how to steal my car. I also don't want to accidently record neighbor conversations -- it's tight living here. It's frustrating because the manual does mention that in some jurisdictions recording audio is illegal, but then nowhere in any documentation or faq, do I see there is a setting for turning off audio. At most, I've found there may be a mute button for real-time listening, but that doesn't address recording. Anyone know? If I decide to take this back, any recommendations? Here are my requirements. My needs are driven by an increase in petty theft in the area that no one seems to be able to do anything about. plant pots and statues, and leave your car door open at night two or three times and it will be combed through. My hunch is I will find the same person or people walking up to my cars and checking the doors weekly if not more frequently. - I need a motion-triggered video feed from 1 or 2 cameras max. of my driveway/possibly front entrance. - Not sure I need or want night vision, only trial and error will tell, but I have a very bright front light that beautifully illuminates my driveway and regular recording may work best. - Ideal would be to place it behind the thin polycarb windows of my garage door, for both sake of not drilling holes in my house/running wires and to avoid conflicts with HOA. not sure how this will work but probably not at all with night vision. thanks!
