Need some good advice on new system (POE outdoor)
wnix posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Ok so I have a rather large 2.5~ acre property I want to get up cameras around the house to monitor. I believe what I want is POE cameras, currently I have some bullet cams setup with dongles to run over cat5 to a dvr which I believe is failing. I like the idea of incorporating a computer over a DVR. What I understand is the cameras run over cat5 to a POE hub, and that's about it. I need some help with what all I will need to get this system operational. I will put some extra HDDs in the computer for video storage. Or more likely just one large one. I want to run the signal out of the computer to a nearby secondary monitor if possible. It would be easy enough just to duplicate the screens but when the computer is in use the camera screen will not be very useful, so if I could run the camera signal to the designated monitor that would be best. Any other hardware I need? Recommended software? Being able to view the stream on iphone/android would be superb. I believe Dahua and HikVision look appealing to me. Seeing that picture from Bullwinkel really got me excited, that's the quality I would like. link here: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=37200 About 100 foot of quality night vision would be ideal. No less. So camera recommendations? And other hardware needed? And a little bit of a guide on getting the system setup and running? Thank you! -

The camera is powered through Cat5e running from the POE port on the rear of the NVR. -

I think I saw this issue mentioned a while back somewhere but can't remember where. Had my system up and running and swapped the camera out for slightly newer ds-2cd2342wd-i and I am experiencing random periodic flashes in what appear to be exposure causing the camera to go super bright and fade back to normal, usually 2 flashes in a row. This also happens at night but causes the camera to go dark and appears to happen more frequently. Anyone know the fix? Thanks. -

I've been looking around for a good chunk of the morning now and I can only conclude that I have the most current firmware? 5.3.3 build 150630. NVR appears up to date as well at 3.3.4 build 150811. Am I missing something? I could find no available firmwares for ds-2cd2342wd-i on hikvision. Is this a 3rd party firmware somewhere? I was also having difficulty figuring out how I would be able to update the firmware as I can only access the camera through the NVR. Would I be able to load the firmware onto a stick and update it at the NVR by selecting the firmware from the stick? -

Ok I got onto the NVR directly at the TV and realized I can just see the camera's data from there, the serial is something along the lines of ds-2cd2342wd-3784329732BBWR4787822 (numbers were randomly generated) Is this a green light to update firmware? I see no CH anywhere. The current firmware says 5.3.3 build 150630. Also, what is the best method for updating firmware? -

Neat, can pull up the camera through the internal weblink that SADP sent me to... But still can't find a way to locate the camera's data (serial) -

I've installed the software on this computer and gave it a try. There doesn't appear to be a whole lot to the program, but it doesn't appear to be picking anything up either. Have any tips? I am unable to modify any of the network parameters. EDIT: Turns out NVR wasn't hooked up to the network switch, now I am able to see the NVR on the SADP program. EDIT2: I tried hooking a camera directly up to the switch to see if the program would pick anything up but nogo. It's not a POE switch so I'm guessing that may be a cause. However, is there any way to pick up the camera connected to the NVR? Just seeing the NVR. -

There is a firmware update that fixes this. Make sure your have a US region camera before updating. How can I confirm this? -

Hey if any of you were going to buy a DS-2CD2342WD-I, where would you purchase it from, and why? Shopping around for one. Preferably in the 4mm-12mm range. -

Well since my last thread took off like an airplane and got locked while I was away I'll make a new one. =) The following parts have all arrived: Hikvision DS-2CD2332-I (4mm) $145 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RL2 ... TE67X5QD13 The seller's comment claims it's retail US version, so support etc. Hikvision DS-7616NI-E2/8P $380 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XAY ... ge_o00_s00 WD Purple 4TB Surveillence Hard Drive $159 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IMP ... ge_o02_s00 Still waiting for the bracket: DS-1273ZJ-130-TRL HIKVISION Wall Mount Bracket $35 + $13 ship And I still need to get some bulk CAT cabling. Need to ask monoprice if their direct burial cable is UV rated. NVR came with a n-elly's sticker and paperwork. As far as I can tell Nelly's is an unauthorized distributor so I'm not really sure what that will mean for me down the road. So how can I tell if the camera is a US retail version? Also someone from the last thread stated that I should check Hikvision for cameras since the prices I am paying are "retail" level. I can view the products at Hikvision but can not buy from them as far as I can tell. There are links to their distribution partners, but they also only seem to sell to companies and distributors... :\ EDIT: I've spent the last half hour searching through Hikvision's distributors and browsing the web. I feel like finding an actual authorized retailer that sells their equipment and allows me to buy from them is like finding a needle in a poop pile. Here's another thing in the last thread someone recommended the new 2/4 MP WD cameras. I looked them up and it seems they have a decently improved night vision. I do like this camera: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-English-Version-IP-Camera-4-0-megapixel-V5-3-3-Multi-Language-IR-Bullet-Camera/32437275263.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.2.DSfV9G&ws_ab_test=201526_2,201527_1_71_72_73_74_75,201409_1 That listing claims original hikvision, full warranty, english version etc etc. But also ali was listed under the non authorized retailers. THE CONFUSION! -

Thank you. I'm noticing the night vision is just barely acceptable. We have very low passive lighting in the yard. I'm going to get the newer version of this camera and try it. And I may get an extra IR panel. -

In the process of wiring right now and bench testing the system. Can anyone recommend a night monitor for viewing? I'm guessing resolution is a key factor to consider for these higher resolution cameras. Want something at least 30 inches or so minimum because I will be viewing from about 6 feet away and will have 4-8 cameras. -

Hi everybody, I've posted a few threads thus far looking for advice. And a few of you have been very helpful. Thank you. So I've ordered the following parts: Hikvision DS-2CD2332-I (4mm) $145 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RL2FZF0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_1&smid=A278TE67X5QD13 The seller's comment claims it's retail US version, so support etc. Hikvision DS-7616NI-E2/8P $380 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XAY59OK?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 WD Purple 4TB Surveillence Hard Drive $159 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IMPO5OW?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 DS-1273ZJ-130-TRL HIKVISION Wall Mount Bracket $35 + $13 ship And I'm looking through monoprice to see which bulk 1000ft cat5e/cat6 cable I want to do the runs with. It will likely be in electrical pvc conduit rather than in-wall. I did not see any outdoor rated cable there as they used to have, but they have direct burial rated, I'm wondering if it is UV resistant. I was just wondering what some of you thought about this setup if you have it, and can offer any tips or advice or comments. I will also use this thread to post any problems I run into while setting up in hopes of getting help. =)

Link? Or model # + location? The seller claims that it is a supported version but I will double check when it arrives today/tomorrow. -
What do I need for my system (HikVision Camera?)
wnix posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I think I'm going with Hikvision DS-2CD2032F-I 1/3" to start with, may get more, better cameras but this one looks like it produces good images. What do you guys think? It's available at amazon for $108. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012AMB8RY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A1B1SO4PGSKWLC Is that a good value? My question is what else do I need to get up and running? Besides a big spool of cat 5e. I believe I need a POE switch, and do I want a NVR? Or to route this system through a computer? What have you guys found to work best. And then recommended specific switch etc for that specific camera? And software for HikVision? Viewing on iphone/android would be nice. Thank you. -
What do I need for my system (HikVision Camera?)
wnix replied to wnix's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thank you very much. I think I like the idea of running cameras to poe switch and into a NVR setup with a monitor and the ability to forward to mobile devices when they're not on the wifi. Max you say that particular camera would be a somewhat less than wise purchase? If I were to ask you for a recommendation for camera/poe switch/nvr system that's likely popularly bought together and work well together could you? I'd be looking for a camera that delivers what that one does or better. I'm looking for about $120-$220~ per camera. I'm looking for stuff that fits into that "value" zone giving great performance for a fair price. I'm unfamiliar with poe switch/nvr prices. I think also some NVR's have POE switches built in, idk if that's a popular choice to save money or space. Took a look at that "TP-LINK TL-SF1008P" it's a fine price for 4 cameras, which would be the minimum I'd want. I think it will suffice and if going with a non built in POE switch that will work for me. I assume there is no benefit to going with the gigabit version? "TP-LINK TL-SG1008P" Thank you. -

Oh, from what I can figure out. I need a POE switch, I don't know if it has to be a special type of POE switch. And then I need to decide whether to buy an NVR or use the PC and use a software solution. Could use some info and opinions. And if I do go with PC how do I route from switch to PC. -
Need some good advice on new system (POE outdoor)
wnix replied to wnix's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Very enlightening everyone, thank you for the information. If after I have the system running I feel I need an external IR panel I can and will install one. For the time being I'm looking for the best cameras for my needs which is the best image quality for a viewing area between 15 and 100 feet, day and night. Running over POE will make it a simpler install for me, and I have a good computer available to handle the feed if that is how these POE systems work. The best under $200 per camera. I feel I should be able to be impressed by a sub $200 camera. You guys feel HikVision has some better offerings than Dahua? And I am still very foggy about how the whole system will come together and what all equipment I need to look for. Cameras -> cat 5e -> POE switch -> ??? computer?? -> software?? -> monitor. Those HikVision cameras you linked Boogieman, I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere to find a price. -

You are not going to get 100f of quality night vision any camera unless you have a large lens or get a ptz with optical zoom and strong IR...when you are zoomed in like that you will have a very narrow fov...mount the cameras closer to your target. Perhaps I worded wrong. Some of these nicer Dahua/Hikvision cameras around the $100-180 range state 30m IR range. And I'm sure that's good enough. The camera we have now was purchased at monoprice about 3 years ago for about $180, at that time it was one of their better cameras. It's alright, but I'm not too impressed. So anything better will be great. a 3mp camera I'm sure will impress.
