GE Kalatel dvr problem - urgent help needed please
paranoid posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hi all, Its been a long time since posting on these forums and im back with the usall 'eeek, help me please' type thread I have a baxall dtl 940 dvr which is almost identical to the early GE Kalatel single channel dvr's (same mobo) and I have upgraded it as far as it can go. It started out as a 40gb basic dvr and is now a 400 gb dvr with ethernet / audio / cd rw / dvd rw / dvd ram / scsi. Everything is fine except 1 huge problem - when I got rid of the old disk I didnt realise that it contained the 'quickwave' files that are needed to create a self playing security cd ! When I now insert blank media to archive it says "no quickwave files on disk", obviously because it cannot find the files on the new hard disks. I have spoken to baxall and they said i would need to send it back for them to reinstall the files but surely there must be another way because this means that everytime I renew the hard disk i will need to send it back ?? I have wavereader on cd rom and have even tried extracting the quickwave files and putting them directly on the dvr's hard disks then reinstalling the disks back in the dvr, but the dvr simply formats the disks and wipes it off ! I have a feeling this has to be done through the rs-232 port on the back of the dvr, which is beyond my technical capabilities. Unless one of you guys knows another way ? Cheers -
It worked ! Im well pleased because this updater is actually for a different unit than mine, but it worked ! Woohoo

This could be the answer to the question i just posted ! Can someone please tell me where i can download the dvr uploader, it would really be helping me out a great deal. Thanks

Hi all, Several times I have posted messages about my cc70 cams getting mobbed by spiders. Well this has gone on all through winter because my local spiders are members of the "arachnid arctic explorers team" and are fully equipped with thermal underwear, snow boots and ice picks. This means my trusty, high quality cc70 day / night cams will have to go but I dont want to replace them with a huge housing + 1 or 2 large ir's as it will make the property look like a prison ! I cant believe some clever inventor has not seized the opportunity to solve this problem and make a fortune in the process but it appears that no spiders means no built in ir's. Can I have some suggestions for suitable alternatives ? There will be 8 cams on a gv system with web access and my budget has already gone out of the window. Cheers

Hi all, My 4 cam day/night gv 8 system is working well and im quite pleased overall. However, I have a few issues with the webcam server : 1: I am using a secure 54 mbps wireless network and can view the cams on wireless laptops and desktops anywhere in range but sometimes the webcam link crashes my IE browser ? The wireless link between pc and router is still there but IE crashes with 'this page cannot be displayed' and my only option is to disconnect / disable / enable / connect the wireless link. It appears to happen when more than 1 wireless pc is using the geo webcam at the same time. Is this because the router cannot supply the feed to more than 1 wireless pc simultaneously ? 2: Is there a way of cancelling the webcam login so that I can click on a favourite like "http://192.168.1.2/multiview.htm" and have the cams appear immediately on screen with no login required ? Any help would be great, Mick

Thanks rory, You mentioned baygon before but google didnt show anything up, after another quick search it showed up www.baygon.com, lots of info but no contact email address. They have 2 sites, one in the usa and one in germany. I would happily try to import some if I could find a way of contacting them bt without an email address im a bit stuffed. I may just try info@baygon.com and see what happens. What interesting is the 'jonnsons' logo on their website, this name is familiar to me over in the u.k. but not sure if its the same company. Im prepared to try this stuff because resighting the cams is not a possibility and im not sure I want to remove the sunshields as they appear to be helping with glare etc. Cheers Mick

Hi all, 6 months later and im still having problems So far I have tried the following : Insect repellent / killer - lasts 2 days max and sometimes they absail from the corner of the building on a silk line so that they can land directly on the lens to avoid the sprayed surfaces ! Cloves / clove oil - lots of people swear by it and I say rubbish, the spiders just dont care and probably use it to spice up a 'fly curry'. Cleaning the webs off and poking the spiders with a stick every day, works very well and lasts about 5 minutes, I actually saw a spider making a new web before I got down to the bottom of the ladder. Leaving a note saying "all spiders will be shot", didnt work and they threatened to sue me. On a more serious note I am considering sticky insect tape but dont fancy the job of cleaning it off when it needs replacing. Anyone got any new ideas ? There is a big gap in the market for a clever invention to combat this problem. Cheers Mick p.s. my problem with spider webs is actually so bad that they regularly obscure the entire cams view.

25 fps realtime recording across 6-8 cameras ?
paranoid posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Hi all, I am considering a geovision card or something similar. I will install between 6-8 day/night cameras and wish to achieve a realtime recording rate of 25 fps pal or higher. I am a bit confused with geovisions quoted recording rates and wondering if someone can point me in the right direction ? Cheers Mick -
Hi, I have just booted up my new pc for the first time (no system yet) and im getting 3 long beeps from the speaker, this continues with no boot. Ive checked all my cables etc does anyone know what this means ? I have never used asus before. Cheers

Hi all, Im looking at installing a 4 cam gv8 system with 4 external ptz cams that are high quality with day / night switching. They need to be totally compatable and controllable with the gv card and software. Infra red floods will also be used on site. Auto object tracking would be a real bonus too Any suggestions welcome, Cheers Mick

External Dome ptz day / night cams for gv use ?
paranoid replied to paranoid's topic in Security Cameras
Thanks for the help guys. I think I will have to give it a miss because none of my customers would pay that kind of money for a single cam, even if it is worth it. Im looking at £2000 tops for a complete 4 cams system. Mick -
Boy am I having problems with spiders ! Using bullet cams with built in I.R.'s and no guesses as to what is happening at night . Under no circumstances can I change these cams so it looks like a strong insect repellent sprayed every 2 weeks is the only answer. Unless someone makes a solar charged sonic spider scarer ? Mick

Im using v6.1 and all machines are running xp pro sp2. Can I download a free upgrade to the latest version of Geovision ? Cheers Mick

Thanks for the reply Unfortunately IE autocomplete password box will not show up when I use the webcam. Its definitely working because it just asked if I wanted to save my password for this forum. Before I posted here I surfed Google for answers on my webcam password problem but couldn't find anything, which happens for most of my gv questions these days. With regards to the wireless network, I originally had stacks of problems with my network but now its running perfectly. My wireless problem is gv specific as it doesn't happen with anything else at all. As a test I uploaded a massive mpeg to my webspace and set 3 machines to download simultaneously whilst all connected to the wireless network, nothing crashed so im assuming it must be a gv specific problem. Im running dlink and it was a nightmare to configure but now its great, I can leave it connected 24/7 without a crash, thats at least until I start logging into my cameras. Cheers Mick

Hi all, I have been playing about with the gv 800 system (v6.1) and im having a few problems, the first is the fact that I cannot select the 'smart' record function as the tick box is permanently greyed out. Secondly when I play back footage some of it will pause for a few seconds while the timecode counter continues. This is happenening with round the clock record and motion detect record, my pc is well spec'd. Any thoughts ?
-
Hi It is indeed a gv800 4 and I think what your saying is that the smart function is deliberately disabled because the system automatically knows that it should split the fps up equally. If so it would be nice if the manual mentioned this so that I didnt spend endless hours trying hundreds of different configs. Am I right in saying that I should set the 'upper limit' to 25 fps for each cam and recording quality to 5 so that I get the maximum out of the system ? I am also viewing and recording at 640x480 and it appears to make no difference in quality when viewing a 640x480 recorded file and a 320x240 recorded file expanded to 640x480 which tells me that the cards chips can only realistically handle 4 x 320x240 Thanks for your help

Im usually very good with these kind of graphic user interfaces and I found the gv software very easy to get on with and have already tested different methods of recording, different motion levels, masking, resolutions, tcp/ip, web cam etc etc. Theres not really anything that I don't understand about this software except the lack of smart and high/low selection, I have tried upper limit on and off, all quality settings both ways and nothing seems to allow me to select smart. The broken video footage may be a hard drive cache setting.
-
Done all that and just about everything else, but it still wont let me select smart. I have tried everything I can think of Thanks for the reply

Hi all, My 4 day/night cams are installed on the property and im testing them while I wait for my gv system. I have a problem with 1 cam in a certain spot looking at a large garden lawn, the I.R. lights up a circle in the middle of the picture and all around the edges is blurred, this amounts to at least 50% of the cameras view. At first I thought it was the IR camera but when I tested all 3 remaining cameras they all behaved the same, but only in this area of garden ! In all other areas the IR response is excellent, which prooves its not the camera. Could it be to do with the main beam of IR hitting a patch of grass which is completely uniform and all one colour, thus confusing the cameras circuitry ? I also have some extra 'standalone' Ir's and when I test them in various areas they work well but when I test them in this grassed area they are far less effective ? As ever, im totally confused Any comments greatly appreciated

Im glad you agree, the chances of me getting a refund are slim because the burnout could be blamed on me and im really not in the mood for a drawn out battle. The chip is actually part of the 2nd IEE 394 port (internal) and I hope it just means that the 2nd IEE channel is dead and nothing else. Im wondering if the IEE 394 socket on the mobo is badly soldered, anyway im not going near it. Just phoned ocz uk and a guy answered who said 'we are closed' but agreed to a quick chat, I told him that both the asus board and an msi 875p neo board would not boot with his memory but would gladly boot with cheaper, inferior memory. He asked no questions and said he would issue me with an rma number tomorrow. Me thinks they know all about this problem already Thanks for the replies Thomas.

Its a non profit installation at my parents house, I buy all my pc hardware from ebuyer.co.uk and although they have had many complaints I have never had any trouble. If this tiny chip was a really important part of the mobo then surely the mobo would not boot at all, or maybe im just looking for excuses not to send it back. I have just found numerous threads on forums talking about mobo's that will not boot with ocz memory
-
As the subject title says 'dont touch ocz memory'. Out of curiosity I just placed my "cheap, unbranded, unrecommended' memory into the asus mobo (with dead chip) and it booted up fine ! Conclusion - mobo may not be totally dead ? My pc supplier is notorious for lengthy returns, refunds and replacements and thats why I was so angry in the first place. This so called 'fastest and best memory on the market' is one to steer clear of in my opinion. Obviously im sending the memory back but should I chance it with the mobo and still use it ?
-
Or maybe its bad memory ! The memory I bought was this http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr_pc_3200_rev_3_dual_channel 2 x 256 kit. I have just tested this memory in my other pc and the pc will not boot ! Anyone know of any bad reports on this memory ? Also, i take it its a really bad idea to run the mobo with a dead / burntout chip ?

No contact whatsoever and I always wear an anti static wrist strap. I dont what this particular chip does but it blew while the speaker was dishing out its 3 bleeps.
