  1. Cheers Rory, I think its either a gv 800 or expensive high end dvr, either way I have to decide and order tomorrow.
  2. I meant to say that I have struggled to find one at a sensible price. Everything points to a gv 800 at the moment, but I would have preferred a standalone unit.
  3. Hi all, As mentioned already in this section the current range of IP cams are not up to spec and if they are there very expensive. I have a day/night auto switching cam at 500 tvl and would like to buy more, but I do wish they were wireless. Is it possible to buy a 'bolt on' Wireless IP transmitter for non IP cams ? After a lot of searching I dont think it is, which brings me on to my next question - has anyone built a 4 channel 2.4 ghz tx rx system that will view all 4 cameras as seperate feeds, instead of the usual dwell switchers ? If 4 seperate 2.4 ghz systems can be tuned to run independantly without cross interference I would consider making the system myself. Cheers Mick

    Best way forward

Hi all, I am undecided on which way to go with my new system and wondering what the general opinion will be on the following : 6 - 8 day/night ir cams @ 500 tvl (I know which ones I want). at least 2 channels audio. maximum quality recording and playback. As future proof as possible. Multi user access. Possible wireless upgrade in the near future. So do I go for a dvr or a geo card ? Cheers Mick

My budget for the recording device should be no more than £1000, preferably less. My main question really is which will offer better quality, a standalone dvr or geo card ? Mick
  6. Thanks for all the replies. The bottom line is that I need a maximum of 8 cams all recording at a minimum of 25 fps pal each and also at the highest possible resolution, 320 x 240 will simply not do. The software will need to be installed on up to 4 pc,s and give access to live / recorded feed. Am I still looking at GEO cards ? Cheers Mick
  7. Hello all, Ive been looking for a forum like this for ages and glad I found this one I have a Baxall DTL 940e which is almost identical to the GE / Kalatel dvr's, and has the same mobo and firmware. I have just linked the DTL up via Ethernet cable and wavereader 3.0 and it seems ok but I wish to view the images / feed from several pc's running wavereader. I have a wireless network with a wireless broadband router, if I plug the ethernet cable from the DTL straight into the wireless router will I be able to tell wavereader to get the video feed from the wireless input ?? Cant see any settings in wavereader to allow this. Cheers Mick London u.k.
  8. Woops, Using an IP address of 1.1.1.1 is not very clever Changed the Ip address and can now view live over wireless network. Cheers Mick
  9. Thanks for the reply Thomas, I think I need to configure my wireless router to allow this connection, im not sure how to do it so its time to get the manual out. At the moment I cannot get the dvr software to communicate with the dvr unless its connected to the ethernet port on the pc. Cheers Mick
  10. Thanks for your reply, I need very high quality recording, as close to real time as possible on all camera feeds. I have used lower frame rates in the past and they are not suitable for my requirements. I have always had the impression that 25 fps is the minimum for realtime recording with no timelapse effect. Unless im wrong ? Cheers Mick
