  1. if it is a virus you need to clean them one by one. restrict acces to know clean users..................and work your way out from there......... you answered your onw question.........if you have a virus from Dedoubletoothpick you can rely on anything you try to do until is is wiped out.
  2. ski lift? no special cable..................but, I'd plan the install on the warmest day possible so that the cable is warm. I'd also use more cable support & stabilization to ensure it stays as installed. And, weatherproff it to the max. I'd also use lots of PTZ's..........ability to zoom in and around would save thousands on installing cable..........
  3. yes it can.............via I/O but, indoors is much more reliable tahn out since any outdoor weather related motion will cause false alarms.
  4. Have you tried talking to him and asking him to reorient the camera? I'd use a Flood light..mount as close to the target..aim directly at it. Don't worry about blocking his video............
  5. does the lcd have a vga/pc input? vga can be split & extended from the dvr. you can also extend the remote if it has one..........

Ever seen spark at BNC connections?

potiental can be "induced" anywhere on the cable from any electrical source......... if you can get a metered reading use that as your starting point and then disconnect things one at a time........until it disappears. then follow that until it makes sense. Yes, the card can also do it. And, is this connected onto anything like satellite cabes or telephone lines?
  8. did you test the signal at the end? does your $" monitor have a video out also? loop thru the 4" to see if it changes the signal.

    microphone for residential?

recording of video in any pubic area is good. recording of audio is bad, but.............I've never seen the issue pushed. Your talking private property........your home. I've given the courts video with audio from resturants (signs posted stated both video & audio) and nobody questions it. But, if it were a high profile court case I'd bet that a fancy Laywer would jump all over it. And, I've heard of some cases were Police try to push the issues of legality on both audio & video. Bottomline, use but don't tell all unless you have to. I tell all my clients that if I put audio in that they should never tell anybody they have it. Listen and learn, act to information, but never tell anybody you "heard it on the grape vine" because you may get placed in a legal disposition yourself. And as always, this is not legal advice, it's experience speaking. Aways consult a Lawyer on anything you may consider legally questionable. The best $50.00 bucks is usually spent on advice from a Lawyer.

    No video...(sigh)

what dvr? sometimes the video hardware acceleration needs to be reduced......... in windows desktop, right click, properties, settings, advanced, troubleshoot......... just back it off 1 adjustment at a time until it works.if it does not help reset to original
  13. all you need to do is avoid/seperate the cable from the light & wires going to the light by 1ft. The more distance the better. Most lights are hung/supported by wires...............use them to get above and over the lights. if it's a low ceiling.leave the lights off
  14. concerning CAT6 over CAT5.....why use CAT6? CAT5 has plenty of bandwidth for a single IP camera............it's a waste of money. Especially since IP cam technology continues to shrink bandwidth use. I can see CAT6 on runs that will be increased to Gigabit with the intent of needing gigabit bandwidth. yea, you can use it, but.........why use 10lb. sledge when a hammer works? The increase in cost is not warranted. Technology just might overcome/pass up wired links.
  15. BNC connector, cables; http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/CBL-35/25-BNC-BNC-CABLE-RG-59/-/1.html pre-made cable just to give you an idea on how it looks. yes these work fine....just cheaper than built cables and better than the real cheap pre-made cables. BNC Connectors; http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/BNC-59/BNC-CONNECT.-FOR-RG-59-62-3-PIECE-/-/1.html you'll need a crimper.....it is smart to buy your cable, connectors, and crimper from one source to ensure compatability. BNC to RCA Adapter; http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/BNC-RCA/BNC-FEMALE-TO-RCA-MALE/-/1.html Don't try to terminate a RCA connection.they are a pain. Just build a RG with BNC conectors and then adapter to RCA 2.1mm power cable; http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/CB-204/2-CABLE-W/-2.1MM-COAX-POWER-PLUGS-BOTH-ENDS/-/1.html I used to cut these in half and connect to cameras....and I like the fact that they are color correct. just connect your power supply + to 12vdc positive RED and - to 12vdc negative BLACK, thenconnect to camera, turn on power. hope this helps more.............
  16. I did a hardware install where I took a vandal armor dome day night cam and attached it to a metal electrical "gang" box via electrical junctions. gang was attached right into the dome. then I took 10ft. threaded pipe and connect that to the gang box..........and at the top I connect that to a ball, pretty much like a ceiling fan ball, that allowed a swinging rotation. the ball mounted into a metal box that was bolted to the steel beams. threaded pipe can be made as beam heights can vary. nice thing about the above; - forklifts could bang into them and they would swing out of the way..........armor domes also took a beating but they survived. No, I did not hang them in harms way, I just accepted that no matter where I put them they would get hit/slammed. - hanging them low got the video down closer to the action. - gang box allowed cable connections - save $300.00 per camera.....I did not have to buy special domes that would get damage anyway. this was a 32 camera install and 20 of them were hanging types so the saving were worth it to my client. Yes they looked "odd"..not your typical hanging dome....but the overall armor effect was and is still perfect................. pm me me for pics. I can also get you some video from a PTZ I have in that store..........maybe have you connect via the internet and zoom into the actual completed install.

    Auto make/model specialist

most veteran "beat" police officers can tell ya, even if the video is dark. sometimes they can do it just from the tail lights. professionally? don't know...............I'd o with the police department first.....it's free. send me the video..........
  18. connectors; BNC is video, other is a 2.1mm power. get a 2.1mm pigtail and connect the power to it. make SURE that you connect the positive to the center pin as the outer metal ring is negative. if you get that wrong you'll blow the camera dvr; loop is as described above.....each loop video output represents the camera connected. the monitor & call are video outputs and are programmed within the dvr software and can have multiple camera's on either output. you can get a bnc to RCA connector that will allow you to connect into a rca jack on most televisions. don't try to convert to anything else..... bnc..yep.....you can't screw that up either....bnc connects to bnc only.
  19. the loop connections on the dvr are outputs from the input signal (camera) do not' connect any cameras to the loop out, just used for connecting to monitors, ect. the other connection on the camera is most likely the power? if it's a 3rd set of wires it is most likely the data control side of the cam... you need to include the model & type of dvr & camera here so we can explain better

    Hello from Wisconsin Newbie!

I am a Sheboygan native.......class of 1978 South. go with; (1) Avermedia 1304netsata with a 500Gb hard drive (4) http://www.supercircuits.com/Security-Cameras/Dome-Cameras/CD33W?intcmpid=71 (1) microphone network the above and your set. - do you have internet in the barn? If not, use this to brigde it http://www.wirelessnetworkproducts.com/index.asp?PageAction=MFGSEARCH&ManfID=1146 I've done barns so keep everything cheap and simple. Use a arrow staple gun to attach the rg to wood. you can mount these camera's at face level as long as you protect the cable from the hose..........you know the deal and if you don't your Mee'ma does. Microphone can be mounted center isle as it will produce great background noise from the entire barn...........as long as the barn is smaller than 8 stalls. If bigger you may need to make the audio movable. you can mount the recorder in just about anywhere as long as it is weaterproofed......... camera's have IR.....will work great in a 12 x 12 stall remeber, keep it simple......cheap.........and you'll be happy

    Offsite Recording

I really don't have any experience with the cheaper IP cams. The following are the ones I use; Axis 207MW; indoor, wireless, great megapixel pic, BUT blurrs badly under low light when set to "priortize quality.......not so bad when set to "priortize frame rate. In low light as set to "priortize frame rate" the pic will pixelize. Decent bandwidth & storage....if there is such a thing for Megapixel cameras Arecont 3130; great camera all around. Indoor, low light, IR lumination, ect. PoE wired. Uses twice the bandwidth of a 207MW and also requires twice the storage. Most expensive........but worth every penny. Acti ACM-7411; decent all around IP camera. Outdoor, PoE, low light capable, decent bandwidth & storage. Not as good a picture as the 3130, but worth the money if using in low light. Acti 8511 PTZ; PoE, indoor day/night, small, nice pics. Just received one and still testing the low light responses. Toshiba IKW-11A IP PTZ; nice outdoor PTZ. Nolonger manufactured, but, I was impressed with the pic. I'd rather buy a Acti......ACM8511 Axis has some new N3000 series that will be supported by Video Insight. Have read some good stuff on them just need to test it....... Bottomline on IP Cams; Look for Outdoor, Progressive scan, PoE, day/night in a 1.3mega pixel.........anything else and you'll have issues with low light no light blurr......

    Offsite Recording

off-site recording uses bandwidth so if your current bandwidth is slow now adding off-site will kill your speed.........you'd have to upgrade your bandwidth. (2) ways I'd do it; 1 - use a avermedia 1304 netsata at the shop with upto (4) analog cams...1304 will record locally. add a NV5000 PC based card at your house and have it record the 1304 cams as a backup (off-site). 2 - Use Video Insight IP NVR software at your house and (2) IP cams at the shop.........record the IP cams at your house (off-site). I recently installed a Video Insight IP server as a off-site demo server and I can program any approved IP cams to it for testing by anyone interested. http://www.video-insight.com/Support/Supported-IP-Cameras.aspx and I am interested in providing this "off-site" service on a yearly contracted fee if interested? The server is located in Colorado (for safe keeping of video from natural disasters) and has a 8meg dl with a 2meg up........this allows you to have recorded video without any expense of owning video recording equipment. Anyone interested in testing it...............let me know via pm. I'll need your IP cam address, port, user name & password to program the ip server in colorado. Server also has a 1Tb RAID1....................
  23. Make sure you get a DVR, PC Based or standalone, that can process the 30fps without a strain. Most specs say they can do it but in reality the strain does effect performance. wireless will work, but wired is best. This sounds like an assembly line so adding a corded camera is harder but will ensure the integrity of the video. I'd look at a PC Based system with 10x mini dome PTZ cameras. The PTZ camera will allow for finer tuning of the pic and you can install at a distance vice trying to get down in the action. You maybe able to get it on the assembly line so it moves with the product? IP cams will be expensive........and to obtain a 30fps you'll have a hard time finding a inexpensive (under $500.00) IP cam that does 30fps. Finding a DVR that records to a standard windows codec is also hard to find. I know Video Insight http://www.video-insight.com) creates AVI files and you don't need special codec to pass around for other to view. I'd look at the hardware cards and stay away from software type cards as the hardware will deliver the fps. Also, if you go with a hardware card you'll be able to back off on the CPU processing since hardware does the processing on the card........but go for both and you'll be happier.
