you don't need Pro UNLESS your are in a Domain type network............Home works fine otherwise. Build it? why? I use the Dell Vostro 200/400's with a C2D and onboard video.....works great. Prices are usually lower than building it.........and you get a monitor with the purchase, and free shipping. Just make sure you have enough card "slots" t handle all the additional camera's & audio.

Video/Audio Encoder/Decoder Recommendations?
VST_Man replied to prairietech's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
is all of this inhouse or are you sending it out via wan? look at the balanced CAT5 HD boxes...........passes both HD video and stereo audio at a fracton of the cost..........inhouse only........ -
does your internet provider allow video? some kill video feeds now. if you can view lan and not wan, then you may have a possible cable issue. change out the cables on the wan side............check the cable going outdoors to make sure it is not nicked. I've seen video get dropped due to a bad cable, nick in a cable, ect. which caused limited bandwidth.

What is the best way to mount cameras on my house? (see pic)
VST_Man replied to jevs's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
run CAT5 and skip the RG. based on the size of your house you should be able to afford the megapixel's.which kick butt. go with POE IP camera's and your all set. RG will get you over if your are stuck on in stalling cheap first. why toss good money away............install the good stuff now. also take a look at the intercomms with video via CAT5........worth the money spent.........back it up with a decent DVR like the Avermedia 6000ePro and while your at it, take a look at this baby. I installed a few of these and they kick butt when it come to a "HD" house layout. http://www.audioauthority.com/product_details/AVX-661-NR/Commercial_Cat_5/5/1 and, if you have a gate, run some CAT5 direct bury for the camera at the gate.....use solar if it is too far away. see ya......... -
check to make sure you have the port forward "enabled".check in the box also, forward ports; 5550 & 5555

Lightning protection for wireless network camera?
VST_Man replied to jrowell's topic in System Design
I disagree................and have learned the hard way via replacing damaged equipment.................. if the tree gets struck or is close by a strike the energy is not likely to travel thru any of the CCTV equipment since it is isolated. metal conduit attached to the tree provides that path and guess what is inside that conduit? CCTV cable........nuff said. lightining is a strange animal that can be anticipated but never conquered........... and, the possibilities of the cable getting a direct hit is low in my opinion. the energy we neeeeeeeeeworry about is the tree hit and what that energy does after it is hit. think of it this way; a tree a tree makes a pretty good lightining rod......anything attached to it will feel a strike. isolating will reduce the effects. -
Lightning protection for wireless network camera?
VST_Man replied to jrowell's topic in System Design
use plastic & PVC as the metal will conduct lightining strikes. Insulate EVERYTHING you cab from the tree itself.............you should be fine. My first TREE install I mounted the domes on the trees and guess what, lighting got them and the DVR....so, I mounted plastic 4x4x3 boxes on the trees first and then mounted the cameras to them, using the inside of the box itself for the wiring.....and added BNC lighting protection at the DVR....since then no problems at all. Since you are wireless all you need is a surge at the plug end of the power for the camera................. oh, and keep your camera under and lower than anything else.......... -
what type router? I always assign a static in the 1304 and then setup the router......forward ports, ect.

How do you find the MAC Address for the NV3000 card?
VST_Man replied to kujo999's topic in AverMedia
mac should be from the pc you install it in...not on the card. go into your sysinfo and get the pc mac address....... -
yes it is still one connection, but, you can seperate access/users via seperate SSID's. ie. Netgear - 0 POS connection with WEP & SSID turned off, Netgear - 1 Public access open SSID's ON with client security seperation ON. Also, you can setup multiple WG102's (different channels) with the same SSID's which will allow roaming. Yes, you can spend more and get better protection, but, I'm not too crazy about the "the sky is falling" attitude. ie. "the sniffer" Not saying it can't happen, just saying that for every level of protection there is a equal or better level of attack. Risk management is based more on experience and not so much on threats. the above "seperation allows the POS to operate in a cloaked mode while allowing internet access to the public who can't see the SSID nor enter connected/adjoining PC's. I like this approach as it is cheap and works........so far!

Axis does have a cheaper look, but I can tell they operate very well. I've had a 207MW up in Idaho for 3 years now and it just keeps on ticking. compare the pricing and you'll find that you can buy 3 Axis 207MW's for the price of 1 Arecont 3130...............and I get a clean pic from both, and the Arecont has a better night pic. But, the price is right for the right job.

How well will the remote PTZ function work with NV-5000
VST_Man replied to northeastremote's topic in AverMedia
The NV5000 software handles PTZ pretty well. The only thing I don't like about it is that you can't label presets.not a biggie, just would be nice. Other than that I have no issues. I can set you up with a Demo here that you can PTZ yer butt off on.....PM me and I'll set you up with a login & pass on a Q6600 & NV6480 card. As far as I know, NV series software (PTZ control ) is the same for NV5000 & NV6480. -
slim line is half height...................not full sized

I'm using a Netgear FS108P & WG102 via POE, a Axis 207MW in a outdoor "bubble". Router is a Dlink DGL-4300. Axis is out 150ft. from the WG102 (in the Garage) and connects with no issues. your plan looks good, just nail down the equipment. What is your weather like? Outdor IP camera may need a heater/blower?

I'm leaning towards a lighting strike vice a bad power supply.........seen it before.........

I suppose you could mount the camera up higher and then hide it by making it double as a fish bowl? hummmm?
-
I use it now...installed it outside a few days ago. great pic thru it...actuall there is a example on a post on IP pics here......it's a barn yard shot. I am in the midst of getting the manufacture to supply Northern Video with it so it can be ordered via...........you can't buy it direct.

Web cam for Hotel
VST_Man replied to Cougar Networks's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'd look at modulating this camera into your hotel channel line up so that guests can view it via cable system. Some IP PTZ's have a RG connection. I would NOT allow guests to control the PTZ. I'd setup presets and then put the PTZ on patrol. That way your WEB viewers would get a tour via the PTZ vice leaving it pointed into space.......... and, if you were a strip club I'd install it for free
