that onscreen error is displayed only when the power has been shut off or it has been intrupted. intrupted can be a negative surge. error tells you that something caused a electrical power outage which results in no video recorded. this is to inform you if a smart thief tries to out whit you by unplugging the 1304 during his/her shift? this is normal, unless the power is 100% via a battery backup/surge protector.

ideas on how to run cable?? ever think of a crossbow?
VST_Man replied to rdawg's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I use the cane pole extension type. Mine is 25ft. long and it works great. The point and shoot type look fine but I can tell you that it won't "push" past AC duct or other obsticales. I have yet to find a false ceiling with nothing in it...... -
stop, I can take it anymore!

I recently had a potiental client inform me that NASA uses Mac for video and therefore, Mac is the best. Can't argue with a client, BUT......... If Mac was soooooooooooooooooooooooo great, why is it so hard? I wish Mac was more friendly. I've lost clients over this issse. But the stats speak for themselves. Mac is unique and therefore harder to integrate.

why is it that the j version is NOT on Avermedia's WEB site? How hard is it to change the link? in my opinion, you advertising it and Avermedia not being in-step with you is a slap in Avermedia's face. If I were the boss at Avermedia, I'd be pissed.........

Need a little help
VST_Man replied to chris_190's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
- update your video drivers - reduce your video acceleration settings -
what kind of pc are you using? do the specs match avers recommended? - reload latest software from the avermedia web site sounds like your setting are correct. run software and connect camera, enable, view live. fairly simple unless hardware, PC hardware, is not happy with NV card. did you purchase new?
-
under setup, camera, have you "enabled" the camera's? is your router & DVR on the internet, remote ready? I can look at settings if you want.pm me I doubt that the card is DOA

call a few other "installers" in your area and ask for a quote. this will give you a feel for your area market. next you need to look at your competitors equipment. go door to door and ask, look, and listen. time = labor charge materials = markup labor + markup = total install price you have to understand your competition and the equipment they install before you can beat them. you might get away with cheap labor NOW but you won't last the long term. you need to beat them with cheaper labor and equal or better equipment. "The quote" or "Estimate": understand this. Keep the overall price low. don't put "extra stuff" on the quote. No monitor, no battery backup, no NASA type camera's. KISS...........keep it simple stupid if you want, create a "Options" page and list those items there; camera upgrades, router, DVR upgrades, ect. I can pretty much quote a install over thephone based on type of building and # of camera's. I don't do it that way, I just can do it. Always ask, listen, and wait to answer the how much question. I always ask for any competitors estimate..........."I'll beat the price". If they mention another quote, ask for it. If they don't wish to give it to you tell them to remove pricing and then review it. when I first started I spent 6 months following my competition around and looking at the installs they did, how much they charged, ect. I then beat them by providing cheaper install prices, better equipment, and easily better professional installs. My competition gave it away by overcharging for cheap equipment and then they kicked themselves by installing it with glue and paperclips. advertising? yellow pages only! your first couple of installs can be fre or close to it..you need to invest in getting your name out there and the best way is to provide cheap installs with decent equipment right off the bat......... your next problem is equipment........I spent 50k testing "stuff" and learning the biz my first year. I continue to spent approx. 10 -15k per year on keeping up with technology advances. I attend the ISC once a year and found that is a decent place to learn who is who.

thanks for the school'n i agree that codes are equired for safety purposes but I'm not a fan of codes/inspectors. codes are like taxes. some are needed and others not.
-
if there are no codes, follow the electrical codes and apply common sense. Only issues you need to really follow, in my opinion, is the use of Plenum and fire blocking. ie. If, and only if, the return AC air space is not seperated from wire (false ceilings where the return air is above false ceilings and cables are run in the same space) ie. drill a pass thru hole and fill that gap with fire proof caulk to prevent the spread of fire. But, check with your local "inspectors". They will give the answer or should be able to get it. And lastly, be careful what you ask for. Inspectors & codes are sometimes a pain in the arshe. They don't apply common sense until you apply more money. We don't have codes here and I try to stay out of the way of inspectors......

Software with Pre-Recording function...
VST_Man replied to peff's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Avermedia and Video Insight, as most other PC based, can handle this. I have a Avermedia 6480e with motion detectors connected to the IO ports. I programmed the software to send emails based on motion detection with 3 snapshots of the area in question as attachment to the emails. Works very good. Video Insight has the same type IO ports that are also programed as "tasks".....same result. -
Need help on DVR Card System for 96 Cameras
VST_Man replied to ncdoc's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
take a look at Video Insight. They are experienced in Coorporate level PC DVR's and can I have used them on Government type installs. Are you using analog & IP camera's? I've installed both the Avermedia NV5000, 1304's, 1704's, NV6480e & Video Insight. Both have pros & cons based on type of install. I can help you decide and/or install it..............I'm based in SC and have clients up and down the east coast, references also. PM me and we can talk...........[/url] -

Power and Video for Long Range Run
VST_Man replied to AMTTL70's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I am running 24VAC beyond 800ft. and it works fine. the second CAT5 above is for the power and doubling up of the wires. 300ft.? that's a no biggie. I actually run 12VDC that distance also but found out 24VAC is better than at that distance. wire charts are a scientific guage.....and if you can engineer it to that, fine. But, it does not mean it don't work outside those parameters. I listened to "it's gotta be this and that" my entire career and basically discovered truth in doing it. Not that you are right or wrong, you can't just say it won't work when it does. -
Power and Video for Long Range Run
VST_Man replied to AMTTL70's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
use CAT5, baluns, and 24VAC. you'll need (2) CAT5 cables run. One for power and the other for camera's video. RS485? what is that for? control of? data signal/control signals are good for that distance via single CAT5 pair. -
hee heee heeeeeeee listen, in all my "years" of hands on of new and improved things I've never seen the perfect anything. they all have some issue, large or small, that takes good ole fashioned inguinity to make better or overcome. we learn thru trial and error and in most cases the original product is never the same on the second build. Get used to it as this process of supply and demand will never change. As long as we demand it, the product will always be sold before it's time........ anywho, thanks for the replies concerning my comment. I guess all my years of being a Marine have caused me to be prepared to overcome with a rubberband and paper clip. always need one and always have one. Semper Gumby ya'all

Only thing is, for me, I don't care if it hangs at that spot since the Server sits there and records video and provides a WEB service. kinda reminds me of something our Mothers told us a long time ago. "if it hurts when you do that, don't do that"

Avermedia has a few places that need to be programmed for the internet to work properly. - setup, system; make sure "auot start network when login" is checked - setup, network; all setting match Server/network settings & ports used are correct. ie. port 80 for http web. - setup, users; check "network" on the user accont you are using to login on. - main Avermedia Server screen; the "network" icon needs to be "on" or "selected".mine turns purple when selected. If this is off, your Avermedia Server network will not allow any networks connections. - Server Fire wall needs to be "allowed" for those ports used in Network setting above. - Router "port Forwarding" needs to be set for the Avermedia IP address & ports used above.

Quad Processor with VGA & Loop out?
VST_Man replied to VST_Man's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
yes on the DVr purchase with loop out, but, most ones are cheaper then all so I want to get a all in one if they have it. you'd figure that today's technology would support this option on a quad? quad & convert is my only choice right now unless someone knows of a quad that does both. -
you can dl the video without converting or codec.it's in avi format and movie maker opens it up without any probs. I do it all the time..........

Video Insight PC based software saves the files as AVI and can be used immediately. http://www.video-insight.com
