ok, you can install a Avermedia "dvr" and use the remote IR unit option. add a rf IR extender and you can sit in your lazyboy and remote your cams all day long......from multiple TV's as the rf IR extender works out to 100ft. kiss................ oh, the rf controlled PTZ always seem to be very cheap and "stupid" fly me in for xmas, put me under your tree, and I'll even install it for you Merry Xmas........y'all

don't know about the KTnC but use the 300 you save from not buying the Speco and get a WDR armor dome or decent digital Noise Reducting armor at your front door. add motion lighting and your done. I am a big installer of armor domes over all now. they take a beating and keep on ticking. IR? nice to have but hard to replace down the road. motion lighting fills the requirement nicely and a 80 cent buld is easier/cheaper to replace than a bullet camera.

r u using MPEG4? You may have to change to the other codec...in the 207MW setup
-
only thing I would recommend is that you taper the cables back and tape them approx. 3" apart. this will give you a single cable out front and followed by 3 others...makes going over and around things easier.

almost looks like a arm dvq series?

Arecont 3130's in a decent housing. IR from supercircuits or install motion lighting netgear POE switch DVR.....go with a IP (NVR) based. build a seperate network to support cameras. connect monitor out to cable system

What router works better other than D-Link or Linksys?
VST_Man replied to sonorabill's topic in Computers/Networking
did linksys basically admit via setting DVR IP into "DMZ" settings that the router was not working properly? MTU also? Kinda a pain installing and then finding out you can't get it to work eh? I have a linksys right now that stops inbound on port 80 & 8080 every now and then. I have to physically cycle the power to get it to work again? maybe I should lower the mtu OR get a new router? Oh, to answer the question.I personally use the gaming giga dlink....... -
I have a client that had multiple HD LCD Flats installed with 5 HD Direct TV receivers feeding them. I'm not a audio & TV guy but I do know enough to wonder at what i see.............the owner paid for HD connections to his LCD flats but all the connections are a single RF (F connector) connection to each LCD. In my eyes, it's not a true HD setup because you can't get past 480i via this connection. you need to go HDMI, component, or DVI to get higher. My questions are; - how is a "sports bar" usually wired to handled this many LCD's? - how does one handle the limititations on cable types to get higher HD? I know you can run 3 RG6's for component, along with RG6 for L&R audio, to get past 150ft. and that you can use special boxes to push HDMI distances. - Whats the best way of setting this up? Put the receivers closer to the LCD's? oh, and the installer really blew me away when he had the owner place taped cardboard over the IR on the receivers to keep the remote from working on all 5.................a quick remote RF change/setup and that problem would go away. and the ceiling mounts.....he actually took 1/2 threaded rod and bent it to create "U-bolts" and then bolted the LCD's up in this manner. Very tacky. LCD mounts were bent from over torking, poor alignment of the "u-bolt", ect. I'd like to unscrew this for the owner but I don't want to step into someone else do do. Owner is cool with me so do do is pretty much stinkless now. it is what it is, right? is there a good web site out there that engineers this type application with decent descriptions?

Thanks.have any of you run into this type of unprofessional install? I'm just mystified at how crapy it looks and even more with the 480i connections when it is capable of higher?

new 24vac camera over old 3 in one cable problems
VST_Man replied to WDRJack's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
try grounding all three grounds together? -
some yes. ie.....Axis 207mw has programing to use both. But remember, the newer protocol won't speed up your router or IP camera, it just gives it a newer addressing scheme on the LAN side only. Routers down the road will take advantage of it.....

22 g won't handle BNC connectors well.....it will be a mess trying to get it "tight". I would recommend soldering the connection and applying proper insulation to protect it. Grond Loop is cause when a potiential between 2 objects is present causing current to flow causingbad video. Make sure the cable is routed around any other wires to ensure your poor video is not caused by inductance. 22g video cable is really bad stuff. it may work initially (and I tried it to understand it) but over time a 100% visually good cable just goes bad?

I use the coax seal tape because it remains soft. other sealers harden and make it miserable to open. yes, coax can be sticky but it is managable. I'll apply a thin layer to the seal area and then seal it.works great and opens easier than if caulked, foamed, ect.

I've done 2 gated and have lots of advice...........where do you want me to begin? - high res cams is only a part of the solution. positioning of the cams, lighting, and bottle necking traffic are all things you need to plan. - LPR? there are cheap ones and mid range and extreme...... - enclosures or armor domes? - RG-59 siamese or CAT5 direct burry & baluns? - passwords and camera access? Gated community types like to control all and more - internet link speed & projected viewers? - IP cams for remote off-site video recordings? - DVR? ease of use. playback is decent? common AVI file or palyer required? - ports open or blocked? this is a biggie that you need to "test" before you contract a simple install if you have any questions just email or call.pm me for both

it's a temp difference between the inside and outside. I sometime put those dry packs in to keep things dry.......sealing might help but humidity/moisture is the real problem. Here in the south we operate at 100% most the time so sealing them only seals in the moisture.....dry packs dry it up after you seal them right.

Go Brett Farve! Great game eh?

Avermedia Versus Geovision, my personal review.....
VST_Man replied to 501's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
great starter is a Axis 207MW, and the one I like the most is the Arecont 3130 agumented with IR at night. Nice thing about the 3130 is POE and the ability to place in an outdoor housing. -
6 Camera Wireless Installation for a Parking Lot

take a look at outdoor IP PTZ's....you may reduce the total number of cams. -

port forwarding help n advises needed.....

who is your provider? -
Just wanted to comment on the few I have here in SC. - Embarq....pretty much the best as far as ports open.they all are - Hargray.pretty much "ok". Ports are open but they have lousy support/service. - Verizon.........the worst. Ports blocked and multiple routers that do not allow (or they are not set up properly) open ports. - SBC under ATT......port 80 blocked.8080 open, others blocked also. I had a client take 2 IP cams to mass and try to punch thru Verizon and I could not get it to go. Tech support was some non-english speaking type that knew only one way of thinking. and they had what was called PTC......Paid Technical Support, which is basically after tech support cannot rersolve your problem they make up give up a cedit card to continue up to the higher level of tech support...never tried it, just laughed and hung up. Verizon??? Have any of you tried to punch thru thier ports? I brighed thier modem and then set up the linksys and got nothing.no internet, ports, ect. But when I ran the modem PPoe and linksys DHCP al worked fine except blocked ports....all of them. I believe it has alot to do with NAT.or lack of it. My next attempt would be a VNC tunnel but I am weary of anything working....... Anyway, I'd like your comments concerning or more...............tnx

charge less than your competition OR provide better equipment/support at the same price. or do it for free............

I'd use RG over CAT5. easier to install and maintain. Yes CAT5 it works ok. Since you roughing in; - run a video out cable from the DVR room to each room in your house that will have a TV in it so that you can connect your DVR monitor output to them. - get away from IR if possible by installing/planning motion lighting. again, easier to maintain - I like the new min armor domes they have out now. very nice to look at and the pics are decent. easy to clean. - DVR? I'd use Avermedia, maybe use (2) 1304NET. They are cheap and work great. You won't need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, ect. Just bench install them and then hide them. I'd seperate them so that if a thief gets in they only find one and you may still have video of the break in? Install decent sized hard rives and record always..storage is cheap! - run as many camera cables NOW so that you don't have to work harder later to add them. Cable is cheap. - put a 2" PVC pipe into the wall of the room you plan on installing the DVR & networking. This will keep things easy for upgrades and wire runs in general. run it up the wall into the attic, sheeet roak it clean. - add more plugs in the "room" and add a extra AC vent in the "room". I'm building next year and plan on having a closet type room with it's own AC vent, plugs high and low, rack mounted network center. that room will have pass thrus to the lower floors and attic - IR outdoors on a open area is going to be dark and featureless. Use motion lighting! - B&W is ok but there are cams out there that provide both decent night and day. - consider upgrading to a 1704hybrid............use some Axis 207MW's indoors.......wirless and the pic is sweet! Hybrid allows you to add remote IP cameras to the DVR. - If your stuck on a PC based.go with the 6480express....software compression that works great..16 channels, Hybrid, bells & whistles PC DVR's are nice but they are PC's......and PC"s need updates, and are open to PC type problems/attacks. Standalones (1304NET) and pretty much "turn on and forget" machines and can't be messed up to bad. Most people who purchase PC DVR's don't really use all the bells and whistles they offer anyway. KISS............record and be happy! I need more coffee.........

Are wireless cameras reliable?
VST_Man replied to metapts's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'd go G wirless into a Giga hard wired.... reliability is going to be measured on how well you engineer the wireless backbone. another issue will be finding a decent cost effective OUTDOOR IP camera. You'll also need POE type routers & AP's. I don't see the wiring as the issue here since each and every IP wireless camera is still wired to a plug anyway? Maybe you need to stick with wired and go with POE on all? It's quicker to install CAT5 and the connections are quick. Only down side is setting up the camera view at the install location....laptop will be needed. I like using the Axis 207MW BUT there is no weather proof version in this price range. If I could stuff the 207MW into a housing and add POE for the same price I'd be happy!
