  1. use the straight thru cable
  2. I'd recommend Video Insight IP software. Your PC power is only half the solution. Since your going IP the bandwidth required to record fps needs to be planned out. A basic home or business internet connection won't handle 32 cameras. If your building a internal IP security system then I'd go with Gigabyte and dedicate that link to IP cameras only...don't share data links with it unless you have to. run seperate network cable. Fiber...........your good.

    Can this be done?

did it........used the old monitor also. odd thing is the power is slightly touchy when connecting the adapters. power off all and one at a time plug un your cameras making sure they work seperately. after you get it connected let it alone. lots of wiring also.....looks crappy. Client wanted a new recorded keeping old cams. adapters worked BUT in the long run you'd be better off junking it all. Cameras look crappy on a decent recorder..........
  5. the only type I know of are called DOM's. It is a small IDE "box" that connects like a hard drive but is not a hard drive. holds XP & DVR software on it. DVR Card with the os on it?
  6. if you are installing new DON't convert as it is a waste of $$$ Go with a mega IP like the Axis 207MW. You'll impress your client with the quality. It's also wireless so you can install in a snap! Recording software is available from just about everyone now. Just make sure you test it before you install it as the differences/quality vary. I prefer a DVR like Avermedia the has IP (Hybrid) capabilities. The 1704Hybrid is affordable, small, and works great.

Arm Electronics License Plate Camera C480LPIR 120?

r u speaking for ARM or another supplier? ARM told me they were not carrying it anymore...........

Arm Electronics License Plate Camera C480LPIR 120?

got it, works pretty good. settings? - dip; 1 on, 23 off - white clicker; 5 - yellow adjustment screw; this is your exposure. pros: - gets 85 - 90% of the plates.for the money spent it's ok. - nice camera/lense combo.clean pic - enclouser is nice, weatherproof & climate cons: - transition time (sensor) from dusk to dawn and back does not adjust and you will have some extremely dark pics when the light is low and camera has gone into the day mode, or has gone into the night mode. a smart guy could have should have put an adjustable sensor in so you can adjust it for different conditions. ie: camera installed under or near another light source will cause you problems with the camera going into the day mode. - resellers don't have a clue outside of the manual provided. I was told it is built overseas...........go figure. - camera needs power, all it can get. I initally had it connected to 12VDC and it was not stable at night (high power usage) switched to 24vac and it was fine. use heavier power lines. - had one camera that the power change did nothing on 12vdc or 24vdc. good thing I know electronics as I opened it up and did some tracing and I found a cold solder joint.resoldered it and it was fine. check out the extreme reg-x lpr.............just a bit more than.......and most likey worth it..down side.close range only. and recheck ARM, I was shopping around for this camera last week and got some "discontinued" chatter on it.
  9. my guess is that it has nothing to do with need, just a money making tax triving machine..............it's hungry and it sees a source of money. sad, but true. legislators seem to create funding for personal retirement plans and other wonderful things. vote, vote, vote!!!!!

    Camera Purchase

buy color with a cut filter. climate? If "extreme, consider using camera enclosures over domes. be careful of the "blurr" that happens on most low light cameras. Most Low Light cameras with digital noise reduction or digital low light improvement "stuff" have a tendancy to blurr moving objects. Still pics are GREAT, but, was that Superman running by? I like to use armor domes with low light Day/Night Dip Switches over On Screen Digital "stuff" due to the "blurr" effects reproduced. The Dip Switch "stuff" maybe old school and slightly grainy under low light no light, but they don't blurr...........agument them with decent motion lighting and you'll get a decent pic. Now, if you have the cash, buy the Arecont 3130, put it in an enclosure, run it via POE, and you'll blow away any analog camera around. And the 3130 has decent low/light digital capabilities that has no blurr effecting them when setup right. your recording is also a "must have" in terms of quality. Don't try to save money here because you'll end up with a great camera and crappy video. Avermedia is pretty decent..........

    PTZ using wireless

yes. option 1 - IP PTZ.....use network wireless equipment. this will allow you MORE THAN JUST.... option 2 - analog PTZ..........use point to point video transmission equipment. no MORE THAN JUST Line of site is also a concern so try to map that before you say, "I can do that". If it were me, I'd IP it.............more expensive but easier to maintain & set up.
  12. typewriter training was a required class in High School. "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs back 1234567890" and, ham radios in the basement were as neat as the record player in the livingroom. CQCQCQ tnx and, when Flipper, The Partridge family, My Favorite Martin, and the Monkey's were a "Family" after school thing. anyone else..........
  13. I would; - direct burry a CAT5 to the shed.use gel filled. - install a IR bullet inside the shed, assuming all equipment is inside it. - install/upgrade lighting in the areas your other 3 cameras are going to be installed. Motion lighting is best. - install high res low light armor domes.......on house. - DVR? shop around and demo a few to find the one you need. I recommend the Avermedia standalone types, EB1304NET should do it. motion? Stuff works as long as you get it with the latest technology. Optiplex makes good stuff

    Camera signal strength

yes, but, if it is less than 75ft. you should be ok. no loop out? best way is to loop it our install a video splitter..........
  15. VST_Man

    Perhaps an odd question

modulate the video, use the diplexor

what tool box do you use for parts

I purchased a tool drawer fro my Yuk. It fits in behind the rear seats, is 14 inches tall, and extends to the back door. Drawer slides out 4 ft. I toss everything in it. I also use a 14.5 ft. telesteps ladders, commercial one.great ladder for quick trips up % down.

    Audio channel question

seperate cable connected to card via supplied RCA. I use RG cable to connect since it keeps all the connections the same. decent RCA compression connectors work great or you can crimp BNC and add adapters

    installer in Istanbul Turkey

can ya send me a "Donercabob"? Not sure about the spelling.....I was in Turkey many years back as an enlisted guy, sent in for an expercise in Izmir.........had the best 35 days of my life there............I basically got into country and or equipment took a week to get past Turkish Customs.............let the party begin!!! odd part was, the local BX there was having a sale on Miller Lite.......$2.85 a case. seems the local beer was better.......yea, it was we ended up buying ALL the Miller Lite they had (perdiem was awesome) and loaded onto our duce and a halfs.........flew home to MacDill AFB where we had no problem with customs. We basically drank "free" for a few months.......... got to stay in my first 5 star hotel........right at that square with a horse & rider (attaTurke???)......and some telephone building across the street from it. oh, welcome to the Forum.......

    Avermedia

software is stable. you'll need a C2D6600e with 1 card and a quad with 2. yes that requirement is enough...... storage........this will be the same no matter what you do. if you want quality you have to pay a price EVERYWHERE. storage is cheap so your concerns should stay with quality & CPU requirements. Your other option is hardware compression cards....cpu is not abused.
  21. your asking a question that is hard to answer. Avermedia is pretty decent but you really need to learn the specs and then compare the apple to apple. Go test drive one. Ask to see a DEMO. I learn that in this biz you have to DEMO it before you can make a decent appraisal. I have to touch it and use it before I install it. Outherwise you'll need to find a reputable dealer/installer with great references and then trust in that. Or spend a lot of money figuring it out.
  22. The bigger issue here is amps and how many you need at the end of the wire. Depending on the device rated amps usage, you may have the 12VDC but not enough amps. How will you know? Use the large guage of wire when going long distances. ie: I have a PTZ at the end of a 200ft CAT5 wire. I had to instert 15VDC and double up on wires to carry the needed amps & volts. I used an adjustable PS and adjusted to 12vdc with it powered on. BUT, I've ran 300ft. 12vdc to a bullet camera that drew only 350mA and got away with it. Long distance solution; use AC where applicapable.

    AverMedia tech support

Avermedia Tech Support calls you back and answers email the same day. I'd suggest calling them if you can wait, if not, call me concerning the "hook-up"; http://www.aver.com/dvr/eb1304mob_feature.html even though is does not say it in your words......your safe to crank away. concerning dealers & support; check rep & references before you by. ASK for a list of references. Overall experience with Avermedia to date has been very good. I ask and I receive good answers. But, the better part is, what I've installed to date has made my clients very impressed and I have not had to reboot one, work around anything, reload jack, to date. PC based cards also work off XP Home vice having to have Pro. Vista is on the map......
  24. it's available....I can sell it or you can search for others that can get it. if your near Vegas, Avermedia is expo'n it and you can go play with it.
  25. handling multiple log ons is going to be dictated by your link & DVR capabilities. if the DVR can handle it and you connection speed sucks, you'll have problems................. Avermedia is pretty decent...............specs are on the Internet and you can call direct to talk to them.
