    Fibre Optic cameras

why? your doing it the wrong way. you obviously have fiber. network it and use mega pixel IP Cameras and/or put a H.264 Server to handle the analog cameras. there is a reason you can't find it.....not markertable or profitable.

  3. Rory, I'm running the P5deluxe and a 6600.no problems with audio. No problems at all...........smokes and handles all I toss at it. Running Video Insight, 21 cams @ 640x480 with a 4 camera IP server along side it. runs at 30% or lower....no overclocking.

I Need to keep an eye & ear on my Mom

Rory....http://www.niwb.net/ Intermax provides internet to the resort, I pull a connection from there and pay Intermax. Kermit...if you need help PM me and I'll give ya my phone number. Setting up a router to handle wireless is easy and I can talk ya thru it or remote into the router and set it up...after I'm gone you can turn off the remote on the router and change passwords if your worried about "me"....but many can vouch for my professionalism and client confidentiality. you will most likey also need a auto Dynamic IP updater (done inside the router and updated by http://www.dyndns.com/ I can talk you thru that also.

    axis 207 series lens

i suppose you can but my expierance with wide angle lenses is that they distort and have focus issues..unless you spend big bucks for a decent lense. contact Axis and ask them what they recommend. be careful..............they are not Marine proof

I Need to keep an eye & ear on my Mom

i'd install a 4 channel DVR with mpeg4, audio. most decent dvr now have streaming audio, both ways. all of mine are installed with audio and I can view 4 cameras & audio with no issues via dsl. one channel with audio is no sweat. I'd also recommend installing a simple wireless router and a Axis207MW. comes with audio installed. No wires to run and the quality will blow away any analog system. Purchase some IP recording software, like Video Insights, and record off-site. I am recording the mother-inlaw in Idaho via a Pixord (outdoor camera & PTZ) and a Axis (indoor) via a Linksys router that is connected to a microwave dish that communicates to a ski resorts dsl link. all works great! since it is IP I record all the video here in SC.

    cabling suprises

yep. just did a few hotels. one had a mass of 32 cables curled ontop of the false ceiling, and I mean approx. 100ft. just snaked on a pile.false ceiling was drooping and then some. funny part is that the cables were right above the owners desk and a few more months and it may have dropped ontop of him. other hotel has CAT5 & RG run everywhere, older system was installed with CAT5 and the newer was RG.........newer was installed ontop of older and when they added the 32 additional cameras they just installed them alongside of the old, never took them down? yep, two cameras side by side, indoor and out......looked very odd. and to make matter worse the power supplies were fused and hidden in the false ceiling all over the hotel. i had to go looking for them to find then as nobody knew where they were. big mess. third one was not toobad outside the fact that they used bullets all over the place and they were all mounted at hand grasp level? batter up! I am amazed at the sloppy installs I seen and even more amazed at what was paid out. Makes my first install look like a clean room........

    axis 207 series lens

the lense rotation friction is done with a piece of fine cloth and the are no "stops" to keep you from screwing it in/out too far which can result in breaking the front bezel or unscrewing all the way out. the cloth thing is also very "technical"...if that cloth creates a too tight of friction, you can unscrew the lense assembly thinking you are adjusting the focus. all in all it is a nice pic/cam for the money spent. Yes, I did all of the above in under 24 hours and Axis was awesome in replacing them. Maybe I was too much of a jarhead when testing them but then again if it is not Marine proof you may as well try again first one I broke actually had the cloth blocking the cam view.had to try to get it out and when I unscrewed the lense the complete lense assembly fell into my lap...&^$#^(*&*%%$ second one I broke the bezel when I tried to focus it. out of the box it was out of focus and when I turned the bezel twice the bezel broke just like that.*&^%$#%&* third one I pretty much figured out without screwing it up and it is still working great, off-site recording 3000 miles away in Idaho. great audio too! hold the applause............ Axis was extremley forgiving with me and my "Monday"
  9. most low light no light cams produce blurr or fuzzy pics dues to gain, shuttle speed, ect. Better than cams? I'm still searching for the perfect afforable PTZ night cam. I have a Arecont 3130 on order and should have it today. all I have spoke with say it is sweet at night. I'm hoping it is IR sensitive and that it does not have any problems with moving objects at night. it's not a PTZ but I think I can replace 4-5 cameras using one of these based on pic quality. All advertisements show motionless pics at night. ask for a motion night pic and see how fast the room clears...........

    Concealed Mount and Housing

http://www.avssys.net/?s=product&sub=acc&cat=housing nice housing. has a plastic camera mount inside that drops into slots. has a heater. wires pull thru inside of mount. cracks open like a clam. not bad for the money
  12. has anyone tried these? basically you plug one into the wall AC outlet and another at the router which then provides a network link via the AC wiring. Works out to 1000ft. With that in mind, one could power a IP camera and connect via a network via the AC wiring out to 1000ft. I even read a post on a guy who used them to do just that. ie. use AC wiring at gates to connect IP cams at 900ft. easy. Anyway, just another tool http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000GR1CBI/ref=s9_asin_title_1-hf_favarpcbss_2238_p/104-7938561-3455149?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=1SWDJX4YD013CPN4JS74&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=278240701&pf_rd_i=507846

Your advise on cameras for a gas station

    - I would not go with a PC based DVR. I'd use a standalone. - indoor... mini-armor domes - highres day/night armor domes PC based, in my opinion, have it's place. I like to keep them at the corp. level or at a bus that have it's own networking staff........otherwise I'd stick with standalones. They work and are pretty much good to go once turned on.......can't screw them up! 140 stations? no problem with standalones.........if you need any other help PM me........I can't do all your installs
  14. budget........park car in lighted area and use a mincam to record. other; 4 channel DVR with a decent low light bullet cam. budget; eclipse I'd set them up and hide the camera(s) in a good location away from the vehicle. Run the cable back to the garage to the DVR if you have power there..make sure it is secure...if not, run the cables back to the house...... record and wait

    Fiber seperating two schools

consider using http://www.maxstream.net for your PTZ control. They have a wireless RS converter that works great. transmitter at the DVR building and a recceive at each PTZ. Video? run it on the fiber.............and in order to talk the talk on the fiber link you'll need to get the model numbers of the terminating equipment so you can figure out the connections. sounds to me that the fiber link is a RJ45 termination point? That will allow you to use IP PTZ's and all your worries are easy.........just make sure you match the IP PTZ's with the right recorder.

    NVR vs Client Software

the biggest is the NVR has storage in the NVR and IP Client are dependant on network storage. and then the software is also going to be different. NVR tend to be feature loaded and IP Client is most times basic.

    Neighbor taping me

your safest path is in court. if you can get a Judge to have him remove those cameras that are invading on your privacy then you'll get somewhere. Have a Lawyer send a letter stating that unless he aims them elsewhere you'll file for invasion of privacy. Video taping of Public property is allowed but not private property. Also get good photos showing the cameras angles & positions as relating to your property. The point is, if you think he is really a waco.....be careful of what you do. and if you don't want to go the lawyer route, why not add some cameras yourself?

what is best way to multi-distribute video

first you need to determine how many of the cameras and the quality they will require. If all your doing is providing a monitor output then a video balun via CAT5 is fine. But if your clients needs multiple monitor outputs to multiple LCD's then you will need a amplified video dispo box. and if they have computers and will use computers you will need to netwrok them into the Servers..another seperate issue. I would try to build a second seperate network for the client to access the Servers. we need to know how many monitor positions and clients expectations. Most clients want more than a monitor output from a server based system. ie. PTZ control, playback, ect. Fly me out and treat me to the finer cultural aspects of your country and I'll work for free I need a vacation anyway......

    CPU based DVR Geovision GV-800

Rory, I have one working server so I will use it to test the others "parts". I'm pretty good at fix'n, just don't want to get into this too deep and then have my client complain about the labor, and future labor cost to keep them running. installing new would be the quickest answer. even buying new servers and using the GV800's is ok as long as the GV800's work. I'm not sure they are healthy yet. But, if I get a surpise and my client authorizes the upgrade to new I'll try to get the old stuff to play with. I like to take old stuff and donate it to schools, ect. Dongles? I'm pretty sure that there are none as I disconnected all the cable myself and never came across one.unless someone just took them, and that is a possibility also. I never liked dongles for that single reason.........swipe the dongle and you just killed 16 camera's.........too easy to pullout.......maybe a smart guy could install a special GeoDongle port inside the Server case? hey Rory, we could make millions from this idea..along with my idea of installing a hidden camera inside all servers to keep an eye on it

    CPU based DVR Geovision GV-800

my Son guessed at 7-8, I more at 4..looked at the install files and they are all 2004 so the years is obvious. did not see the dongle(s) when I pulled the plugs. I will make a trip back to recover the other 2 servers to see how they op. labor? My "estimate" is not too far off the mark. Labor here for any Comp work runs over 100 an hour. Gas prices have pushed up the "service call" rate also. so, just for me to drive down and "look" at them for 1 hour would cost my client 200 - 300 IF I charged that high rate.......I do not, but I get my worth. Now i take them back to the shop and start working on them. if you ever worked on a PC the time flies when your having fun. Ok, lets assume I get them up and running by just turning them on and adjusting some software.by the way, these things were obviously hit by a power surge......one of them the "A" series is missing all together so I'm assuming that I can't fix that card I'll have to replace that card. anyway, by the time I get it back there and plugged in I will have at a minium a day of labor into it. take that money and apply it towards a nice new DVR with a 3 year warranty and my client will be better off in the long run. If I repair and have to keep going back to work on them that labor will add up quick. I'm not just looking at the initial repair, I am comparing that to the cost of replacing with a warranted machine. 3 years is a long time not have to pay for labor! My comments concerning are aimed at providing the best "service" and quality equipment for the money spent. But, I'll pass that decision off to the owner and if he wants me to pump life into these things I will.........I can. You have to see these PC's....when you turn them on they even sound old.......worn out. I don't like to ditch and run but if it looks uncared for and electrically punished I have to expect problems from them even if I get them back in running shape. I don't want to tell my client that I can fix them and then spend a month running back and forth because they keep rebooting.............oh, forgot to mention that..they keep rebooting now..........I'm assuming that the "watchdog" is looking for the GV800 and since it is not loaded it reboots. ghosting? I know that I could do that but again, both these things were hit hard by something.that one power supply is toast inside.not just abad ps...it's a barbie. the other is not obvious but the "A" series is missing on the hardware/drivers..... I'll figure it out. I know I have 4 boxes to work with and they are all the same. I have a few more hotels to goto so I will most likey end up with more "parts" to work with. thanks for the replies. oh, cards are marked well and I have the original software.......dongles? who knows where they are. cameras'?? time will tell.

    CPU based DVR Geovision GV-800

they are celeron 2.4 gigabyte pc's. out of the 4 i looked at; - one had a power supply blown.and i mean blown. replaced ps and now the pc boots up and the gv800 loads but no video will display....all ports - second one boots and then goes thru the "recoginized new hardware stuff, loading the drivers for the gv800 card......then i loaded the software, reboot, and got the famous can't find keypro??? or something like that. I looked at the drivers and the A series was missing all together...audio & video. B, C, & D were there and loaded. But, software was not loading.....reinstalled several times, updated drivers, ect. all is a mess. - third is another "can't find keypro???? - 4th is actually working without any issues so far. might try swapping out the cards into the good to see if they work? My opinion is, toss'm and buy new recorders..........standalone types. If you figure in just labor to get these boxes running I will spend over half of the clients money on repairing. The 64 plus camera's are also a mess..........half worked, half are ???? did not even get started on that yet. one interesting thing here is that one of the hotels has a wall to wall CCTV setup........2 servers (bad), 6 monitors, time lapse recorders, multiplexors, PTZ controllers, and more. I was blown away at how much was spent on something that is now a total loss. can you say ebay????? I have 6 more hotels to look at before i estimate repairs and/or recommend new. I like to repair when it looks like it is worth it but in this case even if I got it up and running the client would end up spending more money on labor keeping it running....no waranty from me as this stuff is way out of it's shelf life. I read a bit concerning the "can't find keypro" and basically it looks to me like the cards got hit. oh yea, the CCTV person who installed this never installed a surge protector...............or the clients staff tossed them when they started to beep, beep, beep..
