don't be scared of the policies......video taping public area's is legal and since your cubical is open to all ...and they did not say jack anyway....need I say more. - try a Teddy Bear cam..........I always liked them...so nice and unoffensive. I am surprised that your boss is so sensitive to the rights of thieves and buttheads. That's what's wrong in America..........many are afraid to do the right thing. I have a Gov contract and they called me the other day to tell me that they have been catching several "cleaners" and night shift personnel stealing anything that was not nailed down. Video got them all. Difference here is that they support and protect those that work and visit. ain't skeered! ps..maybe you should give them a quote for a decent video system?

1000Kva battery back-up, Altronics power supply with PTC, armor domes, DVR & monitor(s). - since lighting is good I'd go with some small armor domes (3" wide x 3" rise) I just got these news ones out of Korea...nice and small..work well 1/3 Sony SuperHAD, 480TVL, .3lux, 3.8mm lense, 12vdc - for those shots that require specific views from a distance I'd use a larger armor dome with varifocal........same like specs above. - DVR..triplex, cd writer, 500Gb Hard Drive, MPEG4, networkable, 120fps - RG-59 Siames cable with 95% copper & 18 guage power - LCD Monitors...purchase local at Staples, aspect ratio of 700 to 1.... - LCD wall mounts......search the internet for best price. - DVR Lock Box........make sure it fits DVR. I don't understand it, but, most decent DVR's, 16 channel, today are larger than the standard DVR Lock box sizes and don't fit well. Is there a decent DVR lock box available that can handle 20"x18"x5"?

my camera(s) in my car? now that is something I don't hear everyday. I gave my Son a camera becaused he asked and it turned out that he installed it onto his radio/video in his car with a 12ft. extension. Now I never asked where that camera has been but my brain stopped for a second when he show me his handywork..hummm? I guess I need to be carefull if he asks for a single channel recorder. He is old enough...........College kid, so I am not too surprised.

PC Based DVR's or Stand Alone
VST_Man replied to anupmhatre1978's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
which came first, the chicken or the eqq? I'll bet his question is asked more these days........... both have a place in today's market place. I apply them like this; if the client has a networking & computer background or staff........a PC based will work. Otherwise it is a standalone. PC Based have more bells and whistles as compared to standalone DVR's, in my humble opinion. Standalones are almost impossible to screw up, but can come with strange ways of doing things. Now there is a 3rd option which I am starting to employ: off-site recording of video. Using IP camera's or IP Servers that are polled by a master video server for all video storage. Client canb access video and that video is safe from tampering, fire, ect. Dependance on network is critical. And, you can also set up PC based & Standalone DVR's to do FTP storage alone with onsite storage..........or use email snapshots, ect. Lots of options to use in the game of capture. -
as far as the overall appearance in the professional world........twist-ons do not appear professional....and my experience with them is that do-it-yourselfers can't do them correctly and therefore give them a poor rep. do they work...I'm sure they do because I've replaced a bunch of them on reinstalls. I'm all for crimp or compression type.

csg..back-off...........war is never going to be like a video game. The whole region/world is focused on this area and if there is anytime to have restraint, it is now. I am thankful for any good news from that area. If you want helicopters & jets on standbye, or the ability to take another life, run for office or join up. I cannot fault you for your opinion, I can only tell you that "restraint" is something you learn very quickly when you are in someone else's Country in defense of stabilizing freedom's for all. It's never simple or obvious. It's always real and life changing. Semper Fi to those who make it home!!!!

2 units PCs installed with CCTV to be publish to Internet
VST_Man replied to JeffreyChua's topic in Computers/Networking
don't use DMZ...it opens ALL ports to that PC/IP address. Go into Gaming & Applications........and assign port(s) to the same PC/IP address. more then one PC to publish on the WEB? No problem. PC #1 (192.168.1.4) is assigned port 80 & PC #2 (192.168.1.5) is assigned port 81. you must assign open ports to your PC's. Go to this WEB site to find out what ports are open or closed (your ISP can regulate which ports are open or closed) http://www.canyouseeme.org/ you must also asign the port to each PC/WEB server seperately. They come assigned to port 80 so you will need to reassign one to port 81. there are lots of posts covering this.....search and yee shall find -
I drill a hole large enough to push the cables back up and into the "space" if possible. Use coax seal for the connectors & hole created. power...you can also use telephone butt connectors that have sealant inside of them for your power, or I purchase eurpoean terminals (plastic) and cut them into pairs. newer camera's coming out of korea have camera bases now that allow for consealing the wires, but some baluns are a bit too big for them. each camera has it's methods of install. I also recently stared using a small weatherproof plastic box to install first then a armor dome ontop of it. actually serves 2 purposes. one, it ungrounds the camera from the building..solves the ground loop if there, two it's a nice place to hide wires when I have no place to hide them.

HELP! I need to set up a wireless rig.
VST_Man replied to nitronick's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
check out the Axis 207MW & the Axis 212. The interesting part about the Axis 207MW is that it is a Megapixel, has decent low light, and the bandwidth used over a wireless blows away all other wireless cams. I just ordered this one to test. Axis 212 is neat but has some low light issues...lighting is critical. Pic is sweet. Can be seen on Video Insight's IP Server WEB site DEMO. http://www.video-insight.com make sure you zoom in and out...pan & tilt also. -
CAT5 vs separate coxial/power cables? Hows' the video?
VST_Man replied to videobruce's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
keep in mind that my baluns were not the very best....and your results are dang good from where I sit....no joke. I just stay away from baluns unless I have to use them......but your making me rethink that using better baluns. do ytou find cat5 or cat6 better for baluns? bandwidth? -
CAT5 vs separate coxial/power cables? Hows' the video?
VST_Man replied to videobruce's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
rg59 250ft max. beyond that CAT5. CAT5 under 500ft. with little or no difference in video? That's very good since my tests with CAT5/passiveB's had a huge drop in all video signals and you could view the loss of resolutuion and see the sides of the screen drop off the pic as the distance increased.........almost as if the bandwidth was not good enough for color...... Like I stated, it works.............not to any standard, just that video is transmitted and received. Active is another ball game, especially when you mix with passive as the results are different with each manufactures balun. I guess the bottom line is pretty much the same as with everything else in CCTV. Specs are sometimes, manytimes, written but not backed up. -
I am considering a vacation down your way. PM me..... I also know a Manager of a Hardware store up here, I installed 32 cams, who has a Sister in Belise...............overlooking Placencia Bay. Tradewinds Hotel.... and Welcome

DEPENDS......ALWAYS GET THE SPECs first. Controllers that do multiple protocols are pretty much standard. But other camera's may have special uses, like the COVI PTZ controller.very unique and specific to COVI only. another issue with PTZ & control is methods used to enter menu of devices. That is not standardized and I have used/seen all sorts of "tricks" to get into the PTZ menu/setup. ie. one PTZ uses command 64 clicked twice at the mouse onscreen but also opens to menu with a controller by hitting "menu" button. some PTZ's don't recognize the "menu" button and require special clicks and buttons depressed. No book out on this either

Your thoughts? Jamming wireless network camera transmissions
VST_Man replied to Nortonics's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
most "jamming" I've seen was done with a baseball bat & wire cutters. I even have a client who was robbed of 8 cables, yes...just the cabels, from a 150ft. tower that was online. Happened on a Friday evening, just after dark. electronic jamming? I'd worry more about physically protection of the antenna, cabling, power, ect. One trick at a resturant was for the employee to click the circuit breaker to the DVR......knew it would be safe to steal after the "beeping" stopped in the main office........UPS beeped when on battery. Anyway.........knucklhead did not see the hidden camera I had on the panel(s). I've seen some antena installed where you could toss a rock and knock it off the air. Commonsense applies I guess. -
it's like the grand canyon ................how many times is the same question asked? I agree, both have value as applied to specific requirements. The bigger issue for all here is the least amount of money spent for the best value. It's like searching for the perfect woman. Now there is a thread I'd love to read, comment on, and even try (again) to attain. Maybe I'll just hunt & fish and be happy.

I would use; - http://www.maxstream.net/products/xtend/rf-modem-rs232.php to do the PTZ control. - http://www.prairietech.us/index.html for the wireless video & Audio. Don't let the pics scare you away as Randy has smaller antenna that is perfect for your requireemnt. - http://www.video-insight.com Analog Video Server VJ120 card. - decent PTZ's are available, just shop til you find the one you need/like. Implementation: - purchase Video Insight VJ120, yes I am a VideoInsight installer/reseller). I'd buy a Core2Dual Intell chip to power the XP Pro Server, and/or a 3.2Ghz Intell hyperthread. Set up the Server with (2) hard drives, 80Gb for the Operation system & 300Gb or larger for the video storage. Specs for server are avaliable at VIdeo Insight's WEB site. Also install Logmein for remote access. - Purchase PTZ's & wireless equipment. - set-up Video Insight Server (user names, passwords, privlidges, ect. . & test via Network. - test wireless & PTZ equipment BEFORE you install on pole(s). - Install equipment on poles. Use lightning & AC surge protection. Protect all AC wiring with metal. I've tested the wireless equipment and it works. The above package will be cost efficient as compared to other solutions available. ie. wireless network. - concerning all the features and using them. More is better in any application, BUT, the end result will be how well it works for your clients and ease of video evidence production. Video Insight has the best support around..and that is my #1 issue. The fact that they produce a great Video Package is also important and the end result is my clients attitude in value. To date, my client all love Video Insight, and the police who have required video from it have been equally impressed in how quick a video is burned to CD, clips emailed, or reviewed. later tater Note: I would not do IP Video since a decent wireless Network system is expensive and the camera's are also pricey.

as with any purchase, use this forum and the internet to find reviews on "stuff". I've been looking at the GS1000 and was almost tready to buy it for testing until I came across a IP Cam Forum. Turns out the camera has very poor outdoor response. Not that the camera is bad, just that the newer model is made specifically for outdoor use and that knowledge is not was not anywhere on the sales info as presented by Gadspot. Infact, many cheaper manufactures "forget" to produce specifications that make sense. ie. is it outdoors or not? A simple question to us out here but something the Manufacture leaves out so that one can assume? Just do ALL of your homework and then buy it.

MINI LCD MONITOR WITH BELT CLIP/ADAPTER
VST_Man replied to cctvman's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I got these... http://www.audio-outfitters.com/ezVision.html?gclid=CKTbr6nq44oCFQkGhgodblctxg I like them because they are light, small battery, and I can look around them when I need to. I had a older pair that I flipped up and that became worn out and they dropped down, became floppy from use. Video Goggles are my way. I use them to get the angle of view, set OSD, and check camera's & DVR's quickly. I use the CameraMaster2 to complete the focus. -
CAT5 vs separate coxial/power cables? Hows' the video?
VST_Man replied to videobruce's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Yes I have tested CAT5/Baluns against RG-59 siamese. I used the CM2 to record results. Bottom line was that passive baluns had a dramatic drop in all camera level outputs. Further the CAT5 the worse it got. The picture displayed fuzy dull pics and the overall TVL on screen diminished also with distances. But, for some odd reason the baluns keep on working. Pics lost the depth & tvl. I also use a mixture of passive with active. Basically the active was on the DVR side. Camera signal(s) held and I was able to adjust for different lengths of CAT5. If you looked up a camera signal output(s) required for a high quality video signal then used a meter to define your system you'd toss the passive balun's in the garbage based on signal loss. Passive baluns get away with passing the signal becasue they still put out a picture. I actually saved snapshots of both for record. The pics were obvious. Only thing that changed was the cabling, same camera's, DVR, ect. And I recorded the readings on a scrap of paper somewhere lost on my desk here?
