if the camera have BNC connectors you can use them on today's equipment. I'd scrap the cable and install RG-59 siamese cable...power and video in one cable sheeth.

I like my low overhead................no punn intended. Most installs they have a lift of some sorts so I don't have to pay for one or maintain one. I considered buying one but why? Just so I have it......renting one is better. They drop it off and pick it up.

Mine is a telestep............. yes........I'd use the Giant, or a laddeer that the client has onhand

I have a 4ft. a-frame and a telescoping 12ft. ladder. telescoping is great because it fits inside my truck nicely up. Used it a hundred times now and it is pretty tough. I have a little giant I've never used........

I need a decent VGA extender. Need to extend the DVR VGA output less than 50ft. How far can a VGA signal go before it needs amplification? I've looked at the CAT5 types but want to use RG cable since it is already installed. Thanks

suggestions for long length cables

Video - direct bury CAT5e cable, jell filled, with active Baluns Power? can you power at the camera? If yes, power is not an issue. PTZ control - I'd use Maxstreams Extender 900Mhz RS-232 (4-wire) to RS-485 (2-wire) converter radio's. Install one transciever at the DVR and one at each PTZ. 900 Mhz can go 20 - 40 miles, depending on antenna's used. If I had line of sight and the money, I'd do the video wirless also. Add some solar panels and you'd be 100% self sustaining, without any wires. -
i actually set it up at night and got pretty good pics of my truck at 50 ft using a 60mm lense. I tried several other camera's and the license plate lights always killed the plate..washed it out. Then I treid the filters with IR and it was ok but the pic was dulled by the filter. I will post pics later this week.....busy as heck right now, behind on all.........

sounds like you are using twist on connectors or the cable you are using is cheap/thin. you can use compression or crimp conectors...............

if the camera's are all within the same building and you can wire them.....run RG-59 siames cable and connect analog camera's.................... if you must have IP camera's then you'll have to install a seperate network for the.......and a seperate DSL connection also. If not, it will NEVER be seperate and it WILL have to connect to your couurent network. You can get a high speed router/switch that you can program to eliminate croosing into your current network but those switchs will cost you some cash.

couple ways to do it; - Standalone DVR (ICRealtime) at each location conected tot he internet for viewing. Recording is done at the DVR location(s). - PC based (Video Insight anaolg Server with IP Server software) at your home with the local camera's connected to the analog server. Install IP cams at the other location and use the Video Insight IP Server software at your home to record via the internet. Viewing of either is the same. Pro's and cons......lots of info on PC Based vs. standalone DVR's. Decision is yours to make. The biggest Pro's with using IP cams and recording off-site is exactly that. The recorded video is always safer at the remote off-site than actually at your vacation home.

Need Help Splitting up Video and Power on Existing System
VST_Man replied to moe's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
is this the 6 pin din type connectors? if so, you can get adapters for them and yes you can use them...... but i'd run new wire http://www.sjgreatdeals.com/loracc1510.html I use them to cover the "weak clients" that have made poor decisions. They work great. -
check your gain adjustment if it has one.............high settings produce a grainy pic. and if it has noise reduction...............turn it on backfocus is an adjust that adjusts the lense to the camera so that your near and far setting is focusable without readjusting the lense. If your real good and the lense/camera are great you'll be able to focus and only adjust your focal point and the camer/lense stays focused. I'm pretty sure that even if the back focus is out of adjustment and you still focus the camera that your focus can still be perfect. I adjust near and far to the best and then set the lense. KISS

I suspect you may have an issue with the active x setting under internet options/security/custome. I'm not a diginet guy but you seem to be hitting the DVR.just need to allow the DVR's plugins run/load?

connect the DVR via CAT5 tot he wireless router down stairs. You'll view the router via the DVR's client software or Internet Explorer if capable. The router and DVR must be set up properly in the network settings. ie. Router is setup for; - obtain IP address automatically - DNS auto - IP address 192.168.0.1 - Subnet 255.255.255.0 - IP range 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.50 - port forward the DVR ports to the DVR IP address assigned below 192.168.0.20 DVR; - same settings above except the IP address of the DVR can be 192.168.0.20 - assign a user name and password If all goes well you'll be able to view via network. The above is an example so don't get wrapped around the axle.

don't know what a "UV" connection is........RCA video in? check into an adapter......changes the BNC to a differnet plug so you can connect it. -
Unattended Multiple PTZ Tracking
VST_Man replied to cctvman's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Video Insight has a new feature called "Tasks" from which you can assign "events" that "trigger" PTZ movement to preset positions. I currently use fixed camera's to provide motion feedback to the Server which then moves PTZ's to preset positions to caputer detailed video of the motion. Fixed camera's cover the overall pic and the PTZ gets the detail. And I am testing (works fine so far) a wireless relay system that allows me to place motion sensing/alarm switches in locations where no wiring is available. (ie. a main gate of a parking area or a building in the middle of a industrial area) If the motion sensor or gate switch is activated the PTZ is commanded (via Tasks) to a preset position to record the event. I'm looking for a imporvement to the software that allows priority assignment of Tasks so that if multiple triggers occur the assignment of PTZ commands to multiple PTZ's can be coordinated to ensure nothing important is missed. PTZ's are nice but it's hard to stay on target.or atleast get there on time, unless you happen to be good and quick.all at the same time. And paying an employee 35k a year to play pacman is money possibly better spent on PTZ automation. Example of; - retail store can assign a PTZ to a "hot" spot to ensure video caputers the event. Why have a fixed camera on every isle when you can assign PTZ's to cover them. yes, xmas will be hell, but your PTZ's will work above while your employee's work below. Xmas is video hell anyway. - Gas Stations can have a PTZ follow a preset scan when a vehicle enters. Car pulls in...area pic first, then license plate, then pump, then area. gets the detail. Multiple cars would stack...........PTZ can keep up easily in my opinion at a gas station because they have to pump..... - Parking Lots...wireless relay to cover main entrances, phone booths, the all but famous Dumpsters, employee parking area, ect. Big Brother is watching - Resturants.....bathrooms, entrances, drivethru's, ect - Banks.............the $$$$$, parking lot, drivethru's, ect. good luck............ -
Need advice on system for SWAT training facility,
VST_Man replied to rpogge's topic in System Design
Pm me....I'd like to help out. Is this Military or Civ? No fee, just fun. I've recently started using motion control of PTZ's via wireless relay. Works very nice. When you are talking about a small town mock-up and several PTZ's running..........I can tell you that trying to have a person keep up with the action maybe hard to attain. Motion sensors pick-up the action and the PTZ's are pre-programmed to go record. No wires to run and you can move the motion sensors based on senario, ensuring that you get the proper video recorded. Training? Once the DVR is programmed to motion presets you will be able to reuse those settings quickly.....no human interaction required. Let it run/record. I have a retired MC friend that works in a USMC Mount Facility and can contact him for any other things you may need to get up to speed quicker. -
I've found PC based to be stable & accurate.........standalones can have issues. Lots to consider and think out. motion on 16 camera's (FPS & RES maxed out) in a mall during peak is going to drive a CPU to max. real quick, possibly causing some missed recordings. 16 camera's installed at a home residence...well, your luck if you have 2 camera's recording at once...........unless it rains. I stick with 24/7 on stand alones and motion with PC based. Have been happy with both. Latest Codec's have made 24/7 stretch the hard drives. Bottom line is you need to consider the "box" you are buying, the camera's you are attaching to it, and the expected video results. Match the "box" to your requirement and then double the processor if you can!

Wireless IP Camera interference question.
VST_Man replied to LittleScoobyMaster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
interferance can be "viewable" if it is "injected" prior to the digital conversion..........ie. power interferance IP camera's are a combination of analog & digital........
