be very careful....you have a serrious safety thing going on and if you try to guess it you may not fix it, just move the problem. id you have a multimeter you can fix it faster, only if you know what you are looking at. But, in Home wiring....black is normally the HOT wire, white the return, and bare copper the ground. any other wiring "may be" black is ground, striped black????? Do you only have those two wires? Or is there a 3rd....grounded? it makes a difference so don't just think it is normal......call an electrician if you are not meter/AC voltage smart. The 75 dollar house call may save your life.... something is not wired properly...........and your color codes are not of normal wire markings

I use Nero to do my stuff.

I recommend a eclipse 4 camera standalone for the home and a VideoInsight VJ120 card for the work. And reading into your comment of "get problem" and if you are NOT computer savy you need to stick to stand alone DVR's on all. VideoInsight is a great card and computer skills beyond reading email are required. Not hard to set-up, just warning you that "standalone" and PC based" are different in terms of user/operator skills required.

Software that run in the background?????
VST_Man replied to PINBALLNUT's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I'd go with a IP server in the attic, run it back into your router. Then FTP the video storage or watch it live. you can get a 1, 2, or 4 camera version, install it and the camera's in the attic/ceilings. Then you can look in anytime via the router/IP address. this would reduce the wiring, cables, ect. to just one UTP cable coming into your PC/router. but if your looking for a card then you can install it no problems. how you are going to hide all those cables without getting caught is beyond me. and your can do audio on the side also......lots of cool things out there. and then there is gps to record her travel. once you get her "hide out" all you need to do is be there with a camera. and be careful, she is not that stupid.................... -
yes PC based systems require more maintenance, BUT, it is usually in the form of automatic OS updtates. The "Video Server" should be allowed to perform the function as a Server and nothing else. Once you install and get running all you need to do is manage the video from a client work station. Internet browsing is simple, and admin management is also done from the client. The video is there to look at anytime you wish and you do not need to be in front of the Server to do it.

A couple more questions
VST_Man replied to infringer's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
software is included...........and Video Insight also has a digital card you can purchase that you can connect "contact switches" into so that when a contact is triped the Video Server records that area/camera's. But I think that the motion settings in the software will be able to be set so that anytime a vehicle enters, a person enters, or motion in general happens that you'll get your required video recorded. I set all the camera's to motion and then adjust them to record properly, block/mask things I don't want them to record, and after they are tweaked you just leave it ru. My brother has a car wash in Wisconsin with a cheap video system in it now and I am going to go up this Summer and wire his whole place with the Video Insight package. He has an enclosed wash rack system where the doors open and close when used. And he has a detail area where they hand wash/wax. you'll find that Video Insight will do everything you want and more. -
A couple more questions

The Video Insight VJ240 and the VJ32 expansion card will allow you to do 32 camera's. Video Insight also allow you to view all the DVR's you want and also "pull" video pics' from any server you want and see them all live on one screen. Normal recording frame rate is 3 - 4 for me. This gives me plenty of fluid motion and reduces data storage requirements. Normal live view is 30fps but I never go beyond 7 or 8. Ability to recognize faces depends on alot but to answer your question; a1 frame of a perfect pic will provide facial recognition if the pic/system is quality to begin with. bpf, bytes per frame is what enriches the frame with more definition..more bytes more definition. so you can have facial at 320x240 and higher if your settings are high, the camera's in focus, and the the face is in the pic. higher resolutions provide better pics......ie. 640x480. A 32 camera DVR will require a Server with some high end CPU processing power..........ie.....P4 dual core 3.4 EE "extreme" so that you can run all the camera's at 640x480............ -
The below may help? I've only been to court a few times and never been asked anything. Once the video is palyed the pert usually pleads........if it gets that far becasue the video is entered as evidence and if the perts lawyer is any good he/she would go for a plea agreement. The chain of evidence is usually the most questioned. Is the DVR secured? Are the tapes secured? Who has keys or access? Is the clock/time/date correct? How do you verify the time/date? Was ther ay maintenance on the DVR equipment? Who did it? Have you done a background check on those persons/Company to ensure they are not fellons? How many copies were generated? Do you have a record of all copies issued? Is this the original tape/CD? How do I know that? Did you use water mark technology? If yes, can you explain it? Prove it is working? Same with the priority recording method of the DVR. There has to be an opportunity for tampering before they can challenge the validity of the tape. Most video supports the charges and other evidence presented so the issue of validating it is not that critical. I'd look into attending some courses that support your cases. Make sure they are reputable and provide a certificate. If they put you on the stand to testify on "your" recording techniques will you have a solid chain of evidence and equipment maintenance? And lastly, make some phone calls to other departments t talk the talk with those who have done what you are doing. I'd start at the DA and work my way down. http://www.jhuapl.edu/ott/technologies/featuredtech/DVA/DVA.pdf

focusing in the area with the natural lighting is best. some use a welders #4 or #5 lense to simulate darkness.which I have not tried yet but just purchased the glass today so I'll find out how well that works. the issue with focus is to focus the intend target area. the lense views from 0ft and out and your area of intented focus maybe 10ft to 15ft. or different. I am going to try a different method of focusing myself to see what makes the difference. ie. compare my tried and true method of focusing to known distances at night, no light, using IR to using a welders glass during the day. the problem is that during the day light the color "problems" make focusing harder to perfect. the B&W mode of camera's remove the croma crap and allows you to focus to a simpler degree. in other words, B&W modes is not filled with color bleed, blemish, and ect. as always, when preparing a camera for install; clean, focus, test. then goto the job site and hang it. I used video goggles to get my camera angle/view and I am done pretty quick.

is there a web site for info?

hey, you asked so I answered. and what's nice about this forum is that if I type something crazy it will receive a nice bashing. I have not sold anything to anyone via this forum, but I will recommend what I believe is the best. take a look at the Toshiba......for the money it provides one heck of a nice pic....both day and night (shutter speed can be manually adjusted for fantastic night pics). Video Insight.........once I set up a Demo it sells it's self.

why not get a decent dome and a seperate IR assembly. I guess what we all maybe looking for is a cost effective IR beam that works. In my apps it would have to be a 12VDC or 24VAC low watt. Anything out there that works well without having to pay an "extreme" price? I'll buy one today!

I would not buy that cam.............better onbes available for your money. your solution lies in the Video Insight VJ120 card (16 CAM software) and the Video Insight IP software.both of these integrate into 1 WEB server available for viewing via any browser (no plugin). Yes you have to build a Server, and may be able to integrate into your "tivo" server. you'd need a free PCI slot, and XP Pro, and a processor that will meet your camera demands..... ie. 16 cams at 640x480 = 3.2Ghz 840. or 320x240 = 3.0Ghz 560 (775) these are max'd out estimates.if you need specific pm me. as far as storage, just add a USB hard drive and call it the day. One thing about the software is you can "call" a specific camera into a WEB site for live viewing. that's just the tip of the features. camera's (IP & Analogue)? power supply? cable? APC/UPS? IP cam? I just started playing with the Toshiba IK11A and it is pretty nice in terms of quality via the net. 2 of these would be a painless install and would integrate easily into the Video Insight IP solution. Analogue Cams? you need to be specific in your mounting locations. ie. I'm not too far from Wilmington, 5 hours. Retired from Camp Lejeune 18 months ago and have a Son attending College up there, spending my money. Maybe you can give me a good reason to visit that apartment I am paying for? I started training him last year so he is good at pulling cable I do sell and install Video Insight products so beware that I come with good intentions but love the product! PM me and I will be glad to advise or help. My Son can also help you if you want. He does a fair job at hanging Cams also. anyway, PM me for more...............

I sell and install it. Lots of features and integrates Easily to any network. I installed 6 servers in 2 days; replaced old outdated CCTV equipment and integrated into Local Area Network, including archive of saved video to network storage RAID. What was interesting is that when I replaced the old the customer(s) noticed that most of the camera's were out of focus or just poor camera's. This organization tossed out 1000's of VHS tapes and removed the responsibility of swapping tapes for ever! Before VI the video could only be viewed if you stoof in front of the monitor position. Now, every Manager, Supervisor, or employee with a PC (and everybody has one) can view the camera's. Security features allow the Supervisors to exclude camera's from those they don't want "looking" in. One of the systems already caught a person stealing money.....and the transfer of the video to the police took less than 5 minutes. and i'll shut-up now..................

the 7706DNV is NOT a good camera for the money. you get a better pic with a HIM-598, eclipse, which is 100+ dollars cheaper. I rate em; 9100EX HIM-598 7706DNV 9100EX; decent all the way around, day & night. only issue I just recently had was the test out connection on the back of the camera "popped" into the casing when I attempted to connect. this basically opened the case to water. after pulling it apart I found the connector is/was glued to the inside of the camera housing. Despite this, I got great support from cctvimports...and have a replacement on the way. HIM-598; decent camera. day is good and night is not as "open" as the 9100 above. by open I mean the IR of the 9100 is wider/brighter. tech support is ok but you do get what you pay for. management solves probs once you get to talk to them. 7706; day time pic is good if not covering a sun lit area....seems to wash out the pic and adusting does not help. in fact, if you adjust the dc to reduce the wash it effects/degrades the night. Night view is pretty much poor unless you use motion lighting to compliment it..................why bother buying IR? called SPECO got good support on the poor night pic and have no options. The rings on the case have started to rot and SPECO has replace them free.

Automatic XP Updates for PC DVR good or bad?
VST_Man replied to Doug's topic in Computers/Networking
never had a problem..................secdurity type updates are essential -
there are access plates on the back of the camera.....................you remove them to get at the dip switches, video out, and sensitivity dip switches. the 9100 is built so you don't have to open it. the rings are used to focus and set the focal...............
