Question about RBG video signals
VST_Man replied to avinsinanan's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
http://www.churchvideo.co.uk/about-vga.html good place to start............... -
it should say something about network 10/100. if not call them and make sure. go with 100 or 1000not 10......10 is slllllllooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww. and make sure you try the demo or get advice concerning the software running the web because you can have all the bandwidth in the world and it still won't help poor software.

Question about RBG video signals
VST_Man replied to avinsinanan's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
rgb is converted to vga so that it can be transmitted longer distances via CAT6. rgb and vga are not happy beyond certain distances. the CAT6 is built for distance and maintaining quality. if you are installing all within the lenght of the rgb cables you can bypass the CAT6. the devices are for "routing" signals. you need to do a web search by model number and you will find more accurate specs concerning. matrix switches and like equipment are usually used in the production of video conferencing/production type applications where you pull in a video feed and transmit it to several screens and a recording dat all at the same time. some have built in delay's like they are now using on TV where they delay the video to allow censoring.....no more "live" bad janet video:cry: -
the DVR, PC or stand, is built to record live video and that quality should remain #1. the ability to view it live (smooth flowing frames) via the internet is dependant on your band width availability. Quality is NOT effected by bandwidth, overall frames viewed/passed per socond is. large bandwidth = fast flowing video. Quality of the video via the web is basically dependant on the DVR and the "client" work station's video card/monitor. personally I do not "look" for the best quality pic web viewable DVR becasue it's just live video via the net. the best systems are those that record great pics and provide "efficient" WEB/client viewing because most of my clients can only afford DSL or lower data costs. Now my Gov's got the bandwidth and more so it's never an issue for them. the whole reason why the DVR is there is to record high res video so you can use it, view it, get information from it. the web is just a nice to have. maybe one day bandwidth won't be an issue........ya right. to answer your question; 10/100/1000 network is what you need to look for. this is going to be the network out put speed available to the DVR. 10 mbps is sloooooooooooower than the 1000mbps (gig) speed. Most cheap standalones only do 10mbps and the better ones are 100. the nice thing about the PC based is if I need to go faster I just replace the network card and I'm faster. and in the end it is your eye that makes the decision based on the final viewable product. if the DEMO looks and is slow/bad....stay away from it. sure they maybe having a slow connection but like I said not everyone has bandwidth like we do here in the US, right Rory! and I'm not a fan of loading ANYTHING onto a computer just to view it via the web. it shouldintegrate without any special software installs, plugins, or tweaks. kiss

Car Vandalism- See Pictures of house for suggestions
VST_Man replied to surf1div1's topic in Security Cameras
concerning the mounting onto stucco....................first attach a base for the camera BEFORE you try to dril, ect. that base will hold it all together and you won't have stucco falling off. you have plywood to screw into under the eves, right? nice treated wood? can you put a light pole at the end of your driveway/property? If so you may get a better angle/pic? the street light will give you better light response so you should be able to go B&W lo high res cams. and you can mount motion lights to help your cams. and you have lots of angles and reflection type area's around the house so you'll get pretty good IR if you set the cams right. "if" the vandalism is as bad as you say you can go with a wireless cam mounted/powered to the vehicle across the street..............i did this for a vehicle maintenance lot and they moved that camera around to where they wanted..... -
won't say it.....I'm biased and can't just knock it becasue I don't seell/like it. you need input from users.
-
forbiddeen access to pic..........but, if dark go B&W high res low light

Why go coax?...why not IP? coax has less parts and is easier to maintain. UTP exceeds the normal cable install in terms of distances. best to use active baluns with UTP. Whats are the down falls of IP systems? integrating both analogue & IP cams and IP cams, and band width monsters. IP also requires special storage requirements....ie...FTP or flash. Can you go 802.11g for the whole building? sure, as long as your legacy equipment can. I suggest wireless as a last resort based on the overall security issues and reliabilty problems associated with wireless. yes you can buy more reliable wireless but at that cost i can buy sevral great wired cams. How the PTZ work on a IP systems...efficient? works fine. basically efficient in terms of reliability. Do you have to be a computer geek to configure the network? no, just read and apply advice. Which one to use...pvc or metal conduct? depends on the situation. indoors I'd use metal. outdoors, if exposed to lighting I'd go pvc. your preference based on $$$ which PC based cards to stay away from? My advice is this, cheap is NOT better and you also need an outstanding tech support help line. try calling the tech support lines to test the help available and if they don't answer the phone and you can't talk to a tech your going to have to accet that when you buy it. I am a Video Insight installer/dealer and love the product for all of the above.......and the features are GTG.

PC based DVR system slow-down/froze problem.
VST_Man replied to toughman's topic in Digital Video Recorders
i don't run virus protection on my video server, i just scan every now and then via free virus scans on the internet. i trust in the router/firewall to keep my server safe. i don't use video servers for anything but video servers so the risk is low. nevr had a problem "yet" knock knock -

PC based DVR system slow-down/froze problem.
VST_Man replied to toughman's topic in Digital Video Recorders
never had an issue on my PC based like this but I'd look at a virus or spyware type issues first. If you are using this PC for dual purposes, ie. surfing the web and video, you are allowing your system to get "gunked up". I use Spyware Doctor and it keeps my PC's free of gunk from the web. My video Server is NEVER used to access the web.it's a server and is allowed to serve. -
Need Help, Bad Lines In Video
VST_Man replied to utvols's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
work on finding/fixing the ground loop BEFORE you buy a ground loop isolator........it maybe something as simple as a bad cam, AC line bleed, ect., Ground loops always cause more problems down the road if covered up. Not saying GL's work or have a place......just look/test more before you make that decision. did you soldier your connectors vice crimp them? -
just set up the cam's BEFORE you get there...check for airtight if applies, focus, ect. then install them. elsewise you going to be cleaning and cleaning and cleaning. a small can of compressed air also works wonders just before you snap it shut.

1) What is the problem? (Interference, weak signal, ...) obviously the lights are interfering 2) Can it be solved with an Active Receiver? active baluns should do the trick 3) Could it be solved with a Coax amplifier between the camera and the first UTP hub? no......you'll only amp the bad signal ...... are you are running the video cables alongside or near the wires/lights? ...... is there a chance that the 600ft. camera also has a power roblem? Is it a IR type or just low light? what type power are you using? ac/dc? measure the power at the camera during the day and then at night. .......also, powered locally? at the DVR, pushing power and video down the utp? and lastly, what does "Very little horizontal lines" mean? The pic is slighty ok during the day, very little distirtion? a clear pic is a clear pic.....anything else is trouble which grows into larger problems over time.

modem needs to be bridged to the router (call modem tach support to change it) router needs to be set as per your modem tech support. ie:dynamic ip, static ip, ect. until you bridge the modem overe to the router it may not work properly....and, once set to bridge you should not have to set the router to DMZ, just open the ports your need opened. DMZ is opening a port WIDE open with no abilitiy to restrict. and, if your running XP Pro SP2 disable the software firewall as you have it built into the linksys.....if properly set up.

Dome cameras mounted to wall exterior of building
VST_Man replied to rapid's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
try disconnecting the video & power connector on the camera board.............then insert them from the inside of the building out, leaving the connectors on the inside of the building....just a trick that I've done. may give you that extra your are looking for -
had it with cheap baluns (passive) & CAT5 UTP and with a cheap ground loop isolator.........

Dome cameras mounted to wall exterior of building
VST_Man replied to rapid's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
maybe i missed it, but, that dome has an fully house base that does not require the above gang box.............or did you buy one without the housing? If you are looking for a "clean" install I'd go with the full housing if you can get it. and since it is 2 stories the camera's should be harder to vandalize. the "magic" you are looking for on exterior brick is pretty straight forward. kiss....................... -
960x240 (230400 pixel) virtual 36" size @ 2 meters has brightness, contrast, and volume control it's like being in a movie theater.......you can "look" at the edges and area's of the screen for any distortion, ect. only complaint I have is that the pic can be manually distorted if you wear the goggles wrong or slightly off center, but after wearing them a few times you get used to putting them on right. model in Innovatek V-490 $200.00 us
