    Day/Night Color IR Cam

mechanical filter is the best way to go. IR? if you are looking at an "extreme" situation then you will need to go beyond the combo bullet and apply seperate technologies to suit your needs.
  5. anyone have a good WEB address? most i've tried to look at are already down.
  6. depends on the CPU speed, motherboard, ram, video processor, ect. 75% on what you have is not bad if your using it for "just" video. as you increase any of the above things always get better. and another factor is the video card/software settings; frame rates, bytes per frame, motion detection, "record always", and more. you can adjust these settings, if you have any, dow to the lowest which will improve your CPU usage but will also lower your video quality. and check your BIOS to see if you have shared video memory becasue if you do you are sharing that will take away from your onboard ram......... herm is correct on the rule of thumb...........................because a Server is a Server, not a PC/client. But, some like to use a Server as a PC which creates all sorts of problems that a PC/Client runs into. ie..........spyware stuff, virus, program crash, eves dropping, intrusion, and the list goes on. Where you run into probs is when you attempt to manipulate the video. copy clips, edit clips, ect. Your CPU jumps to 100% real fast when you try to go there. I normally shoot for running/building my Servers to run at 40 - 55% @ 16 camera's recording so that I have some overhead to run for the video editing stuff. Works very good. There are some decent WEB sites out there that help you streamline your PC by removing unneeded programs running. Do a search and start there if your interested. and a stand alone is a computer. Difference is it only does one thing well. and there are so many different software programs being upgraded by so many different software skilled geeks that you really need to know what you are after before you buy. in general, a different card will not help. look at your settings to improve or upgrade RAM, CPU, motherboard.

  8. do you home work first.................there are several methods of remote viewing. ie. in my opinion, anything that is hassel free, clean, and fast is my choice. anything that calls for ANY software plugins, flashes, special software, is going to make it harder to view while on the move. Speed? most CHEAP DVR's out there only support 10 vice the nice 100 of the more exspensive. And then you need to know what format the DVR is passing the video in becasue some are better/fast than others. I prefer MPEG4 because it hauls butt over the net. i can view 16 camera's with a FASTER refresh rate than most single channel DVR could ever deliver. even over dial-up.....MPEG4 on a PC based platform hauls butt. just my opinion.....................
  9. yea, right. covert is covert for a reason.......you wanna cacth someone. excluding your Wife means what? explain that one again? I'm a retired USMC and what you are doing is obvious to us and most likely if you "think" you can't trust her, hire a PI with the cash while your gone. Your excluding her for a reason...... Best way to hide "it" is to sell her on a 4 camera sytem and go 8...........hide 4 and display 4............but remember, when you get caught, and you will, she will have a very good reason to call your 1st Sgt and tell him that your are HISTORY.......and then my friend you'll have nothing but stories. If your marriage is strong, trust and include or you will be sorry.
  10. what I do is I'll bump up one of the fuses in a CCVT Power Box to 3 amps and then extend that 12vdc/3amp down to another distro box with ONLY 1 amp fused outputs. i add up the max amps used by all devices (camer'a, active baluns, ect.) and then allow for .5 overhead. works great and I've never had a problem.
  11. camer a should have come with a one page specification sheet that shows the voltage connections. If not, do a WEB search to see if you can find it. and, if it is 12vdc, positive to positive (+) and negative to negative (-). 24vac, does not matter, just connect them. And, make sure the voltage you apply is the camera voltage required. if you have a 2.1mm connector, use a meter to ohm out the wires. Center is always positive (+) in DC................AC does not matter.
  12. you should be able to put the static in, gateway can be anything but the same as. and it should work. Software for the DVR on laptop will be the same as the DVR....................
  13. I'd try a digital audio recorder. They now come very small and run a long time on a battery...................... seperate yourself from the anger side and do what you can. Have her contact a GREAT counseler for the issues and you'll be happier.
  14. we have the "home" surge protection on the house, provided by the electric company here, and have never had a problem. Everything else outside and around us gets hit all the time. Oh, I hope your home insurance is paid up and the deduct is low, low, low.....because she will blow, blow, blow.

    OEM - Definition

go Rory go! I think OEM evolved from the Military as they put acronyms to everything.........and I could send ya few if you want to try to work those out also? Let's start with a oldie but goodie...FUBAR........this one applies to the poor installers I follow around. And, there is an actual acronym WEB site out there that has a feature where you can put the acronym in and it returns the different definitions. Be careful of the sell on this WEB site. http://www.acronymfinder.com/

    Anyone use this before?

not sure how well it would work. I know when I focus a camera on-site that the focal area changes slightly. ie. I can focus on both far and near objects to obtain the "perfect view" I need. In other words, if I focus on something near that means that everything in the far background is going to be "slightly" out of focus....and vice a versa.............how well will the CM-1 handle that? In the end my eye is usually the best method. I've considered the CM-1 but do not want to purchase something that I can do well already. I'd still want to readjust it afterwards........ The perfect focusing meter would include a point of reference that you would place into the field of view from which the meter can focus to. Kinda like a light meter...........
  17. if it is just a weather cam. why use the tower? A 75 ft. telephone pole would at the building may work out best......
  18. Have the local gov tele office do a site survey, you can get the unit you have the contract with work that out. And you'll have to get that anyway since your installing on a gov installation. That site survey will determine all cable in the ground. You might get lucky and find a spare cable running to the tower? If not, I'd still look at buring the cable in the ground. Unless the ground is all rock, you can bury it if you work it right. What is "rough terrain"? My guess is that the tower is there and there are cables already burried to it? And, since the gov requested this tower as the install location you basically can pass the cable install fee back to them. Given that, taker down town and you'll be happier. 600ft. is a long way to run any cable and it will be a maintenance nightmare. Yes, running it via poles/cable will work. Have you seen the site? Has anyne with cable installation experience seen the site? A good cable installer can quickly determine "How to do it".
  19. how far between the tower and building?

    Resolution

#1 - call the police and report this. #2 - hire a pro (video) to catch this guy. Your life is worth the money spent. #3 - hire a PI to watch the house/camera's.............again, your life is worth it! Don't "play" with this. You are in danger and will require professional help at all levels.

    removable harddrive dvr system

loose quality? Big brother? Do you mean that "big brother" would review that video at another location? I use networked storage and a PC Based (video Insight). I can go in and review via client (local), internet (intranet), and swap the drive out if I want....which I don't. I allow it to record over.

    Need a camera

PTZ in a bar? Rory is right............OVERKILL. I'd use varifocal low light high res camera's. You can find decent ones (Sony chip) for around $125 if you search. On the PTZ...........convince him to put a picture of a naked Burt Reynolds in the Womens bathroon. Place a fig leaf over the private parts and connect that to a wire, and lights in the bar that flash when moved. You'll save him money and all will get a laugh....well, maybe not his Girlfriend?
