  1. videoinsight's VJ120 does it.
  2. how is the lighting? if lighting is good, any low light camera with a mechanical filter will do. if not so good, i recommend the $200 (eclipse 598HIM) - $350 (Speco7706DVN). do a search to get more info on where to buy.

    Quality Outdoor Night Camera

you can legaly video your property. you need to "fucus" your camera's within the your property or area of concern. if the picture is aimed in his back yard then you are wrong. commonsense applies. public areas or areas considered public (front yard not fenced in, parking lots) type of camera? you need EITHER the CVC-7706, $350.00, great varifocal IR low light. Pricey but nice. Do a WEB search and be weary of Spy Town as my recent support expierences were bad. But, you won't have much trouble with the 7706 anyway. Hang it and record. If that is a bit too much then I'd go with the Eclipse ECL-598HIM, $200.00, pretrty much gives you the low and IR of the 7706 but the picture is just a bit less "perfect" than the 7706. 7706 has much better depth/distance clarity. Call 1-888-422-8826, ask for Juan. Tell him Kerry sent ya. Neighbor? He won't stop until you catch it on video. And trust me, he won't change so you may as well show him that you won't take his crap by doing it legally and without violence. I have a hot head neighbor down the street that was out of control until I took the video in to his lawyer. Seems to have sent him the message that if he wants to act like a idiot he nees to go somewhere else. He did!

EDR1600 vs. EDSR1600 or comprable Dvr

be weary of the slow network connection (10m). i installed one that is slow over the internet, DSL line is good. make sure you geta system that is 100m capable, not 10m. they all say "internet browser capable, BUT, they rarely show the spec on speed. And, everfocus is a Java junkie. when you goto view it from the internet it uses Java and if you don't have it on "that" computer you'll need to install Java before you can view it. and, i had to program the router for the DMZ mode to get it to work right. fan is a bit loud also. had to change it out with a "softer one". otherwise, it's a standalone that works ok but is not the best.
  5. only issues with cat5 and active balun's are ground loops and that cat5 is more effected by other outside signal lines, ie. AC wiring, floresent lighting, electrical motor wiring, ect. Maintain a good wire discipline of distancing and avoiding these other possible wires. rule of thumb is 1ft. clearance. AND, you need to consider where you will be powering up those camera's? as distance increases the voltage will drop accordingly which may cause problem. AC holds up the best, DC drops quick.

    TYPE OF WIRE TO USE

twisted pair with active balun's. be prepared to handle any ground loop issues which will require a isolation transformer.

    camera lighting

i carry a quick setup low light camera with a 7 inch DVD player that i used to check lighting issues like this. i don't think you'll have a problem, in fact, i think that any lighting is a blessing when it comes to installing outdoor camera's. just don't install it in such a manner that causes you a problem and you should be ok.

    lightning strike

if rain causes problems then your ptz control wires are getting moisture in them? can you run a new control wire? are the ptz connections weatherized? lighting...best protection is to make sure you don't install the camera or wire runs where it is volunerable to lighting. i just replaced a system that used 12ft. pipes between buildings for the cable runs (truck had to pass under them) which turned out to be the best lighting rods ever built. camera's got killed within 2 weeks. surge protection works on the dvr but if the camera or pole, building, ect. get hit the damage is unpredictable. how is your equipment defective? whats not working and did you take the lighting protection out of the cabling to check the difference?
  9. port 80 is for the WAN side and the others for the LAN. all you should need to "port forward is 80 to view from the internet (WAN).
  10. i can put into a server and connect to several speakers, ya know, mood music while eating. anyway i have found many tv/fm but no FM only cards? the fm shark is the closest.....and i'm not sure the pci card will drive those speakers to the volume level i want unless i amp it up along the way....is therre a card out there that i can disable the tv side and still have fm?

    Problems with Spytown?

beware of spytown and it's return "support". it really is terrible! i've called them each day now for almost 5 days to return 2 camera's and i've had to put up with busy lines and then after i leave my call back number, and of course spytown promises to call you back...too busy to talk now, i've never received a call back yet.........spytown just lost a customer who spends a lot of money on video security equipment!

    Point Of Sale Interface

PC Based; text overlay onto video with a data base of that text stored on the PC would be nice. I'd like to see a PCI card that provides the POS and data base management. The data base could be manipulated by current software....ie, Microsoft DVR; anything beyond text overlay is always going to be a challeng as the standalone "standard" is very loose and you'll have a time of it just figuring out what works with what. my opinion says that PC Based will overpower the high end market and the lower end will remain standalone. pretty much haves and have nots based on cash flow. besides, a standalone is a stripped down version of a PC based system. just like a calculator.......all PC's.

    Analog or Digital?

    - digital? do you mean installing a ip camera networked system? if so, your budget will get killed on the first few camera's. - recommend that you read more on the forum to learn more before you buy. if you narrow it down to some specific camera's and/or dvr's you can ask that question later. - your biggest problem will be valdalism of the camera's. that can push the price up quick. but, think like a thief with a baseball bat as your purchasing and installing. Budget to me means; no network, no low light image, no internet, lousy support, and wires all over the place.

    Some general camera questions

i think Juan is based out of NC and the parts are shipped from Holloywood FL. it is the nubix, and yes i wanted a cd cap[ability but what changed my mind was the fact that you can copy, print, save from the client. and it has a usb connection. dvr card?mpeg4, right? hows the video quality? only gripe i have with eclipse is that the domes i ordered had no spec sheets or install instructions, and the 598him had no specs on the dip switch. i have a call into juan to send me that.....seems that the documentation on the camera's is a bit "light" and/or missing.

    Some general camera questions

Nuvico.....don't know KT&C....just tried the KC-N600Nh2, and the pic was not that great. day light was very "green" and low light was dark. no dip switches for setting. $200 camera. did not impress me. I'm sending it back. Spytown was SOOOOO busy on friday that they did not return my call when i was looking for a rma......hummm? go figure. VITEK..no idea take a look at eclipse. just plugged in a ecl-598him, $200. pretty good picture during the day and has a great night. i'd compare it to the speco 7706dvn, which i also have running $360. both machanicle filter and good camera's. also have the eclipse low light domes for a install tomorrow night. as far as chips. be careful of advertising. make sure it is what it is...SONY! not a spin off. ******************. NO, i am not a eclipse dealer, rep, or otherwise. Juan has been good to me and i am passing his name as a good poc based on my experiences. he also is very knowledgeable in the eclipse line and so far i am impressed. i also tested a 4 channel mpeg4 dvr that seems to be pretty good compared to others, money waise, feature wise, and very slim case.
  18. extreme....be prepared to spend your money for it. why a ir ptz? let us know what your "looking at"....may help us help you?

    Power Button

put a camera on the server, covert, and stop worrying. the server/dvr will catch the idiot anyway.
  20. check out the ip9100, 4 camera server in the box the size of a pack of cigarettes......not my greatest find but it was interesting to see that much "technology" inside a box that small. makes me shiver...............
  21. check your connectors. wrap them with electrical tape to make sure they are not touching each other or something else that might provide "noice". do you have a battery back-up that monitors power flucuations? if yes, you can chaek that to see and relate it to the times of your problems. if no, go buy one that provides surge/oise/spike protection. i use apc and it keeps it clean, monitors the lines, provides feed back. Another neat trick is to turn off power circuits at the breaker pannel to see if the "noise" is coming from that circuit. Just don't shut off the freezer for too long! power supply? is it a decent on or are you using a single plugin type on the camera's? again, video noise can be caused by something as..... good luck

    Mid Tower Cases

take a look at the Qpack case. i've ordered one and will use it on my next install to give the PC Based a look of it's own. Very nice case, lots of cooling, power, and functional. less than $100 us.

    Snowy picture

and, CLEAN the inside/outside camera case lense to eliminate the ir reflection. any "rub" or "streak" will be reflected back. a "haze" left by improper cleaning will produce the famous "halo" effect. getting your cleaning technique right will make the difference. no, it does not happen to all ir camera's/lenses. nothing wrong ir built into a bullet as long as you know the ir limitations and use then them to your advantage. anything outside those limitations requires a "extreme" solution.......

    RS 485 to RS232 issues.

check the termination dip switches on the on the camera. it should be set to "on". you should not "see" any white lines. look to see that your cable is not running alongh side, ontop of, or around any other cable(s)....like AC wiring, AC control wiring, ect. make sure you are using/programing the right com port......if you are unsure just program comm port2 to check. and, the polarity DOES make a difference. plus on plus, minus on minus.
