i don't run a virus program on my server. i just check it every 30. virus protection slows things down. my firewall and passwords provide me enough protection and to date I've been clean and free of. when i had a virus program running (norton) with IIS i had more problems than i do now. And, do not use that computer to surf and you'll be better off anyway. XPPro and SP2..I've had zero problems with.

was in b/w mode, other cameras on the system. it works fine after I adjust the red video......i back it off until the video produced is clean. the day picture is fine, but, i'm pretty sure i should not have to do this adjustment "at night"? my cheaper camera's require no adjustments, but, they are not the low light special either. on the cleaning issue. do you find that domes require less maintenance, from a spider web & dirt perspective? i've fouind they are because of the curved globe that makes it hard for a spider to weave and dirt can't collect as easy. thanks,

I'm looking for good IP management software that I can run in the background to monitor who (in terms of IP address's, ect) is gaining access to my server(s). I've played with a few, and even got hacked by a nice man in Sweden who wrote the software I was trying for him. Anyone out there have a recommendation? I'm running XP Pro.

the ir the camera the lower the reflect.....sorry. i noticed that you mounted that camera way up on the peak of the house. I've made that mistake. Seems that ir needs to reflect and if you are 30ft up and 40 ft. out you won't get much reflect on anything. i think the camera specs say 30ft.? and you are asking for 60 plus ft. specs on ir are always inflated. i always recommend mounting a ir camera as low as feasible because of the above. and any camera as low as possible so "we" can clean it, work it, play with it. I have 2 of the 7706DNV's and they work pretty darn good. I did have to play with the "red" video adjustment (lowered it) to get the camera to stop sparkling at night. I guess I was overdriving it a bit? And, I did send in a video to ProVideo and I am awaiting an answer on it as I think the color adjustments should have zero effect at night anyway, right? Can you PM me me your thoughts on the 7706? Great camera, but, like all other camera's, a few weird things in setting them up. thanks.

what about xnetstat pro 5.2? It can kill a connection?

thanks. is there a way to kill a connection........or is this just a monitor? I get various attempts to enter my server/network and some have ran programs that look for an open port. I'd love to report or send them a email........or just lock that IP address out for good.

I tested Belkin, Netgear, and Linksys in my Network. VideoInsight PC card/server, IP printer, wireless laptop, (2) NAT IP drives, and a wirless DVR over a 400ft. bridge. Linksys was the best on wire and on wireless, range was not as good as the Netgear. Netgear did have a problem with TOO much traffic and I never figured out the prob...had to reset it many times. Linksys has been extremely stable and handles the traffic jams without any problems. Go with linksys, you won't be disappointed. If you wireless range is thin, buy a high gain antenna for it. BELKIN SUCKS!!!! Support is terrible, router setup and admin "sometimes" works, and the Parental Spam that Belkin embedded into their routers last year makes me wonder why Belkin thinks they are doing anybody a favor via that marketing practice. I'll never recommend or buy Belkin again. Do a WEB seaker on Belkin Spam.....you won't believe it until you read it. Yes, that was a 3 point slam

I had a wireless (dlink dcsw5300) that also locked up. turned out that the router, a netgear, was casuing the trafffic block. I went with a linksys and my problems went away. I also tested several routers and found the linksys to be the most stable, under my conditions/use. IE remembers login/password on initial login and asks if you want to remember it. I'm not sure where it is turned on or off, edited? you can do a WEB search and get several threads on this topic and hopefully solve your problem.

yes you can. most switches (linksys) operate off of dc volts. think about it. run 2 UTP cable and power the switch with the second UTP cable by twisting 2 pair together!

use utp and split the 190 into 2 shorter legs and place a switch in the middle, if you can power it?

GV-816 card I don't know but I would look at spending 1000 on a great card and another 1000 on the PC/server. 400 on a lcd monitor. 200 on a apc. make sure you add additional hard drive cooling, server case cooling.

Video Insight uses Movie Maker. Very simple to use and copy to a CDRW, send via email, snap shot of the screen to either file or all of the above. Very user friendly and fast. I've tried many different recorders and programs within them that allow copying. To date, Video Insight's features make my life easier when it comes to this time saving integrated feature.

ok, what good are the "explosion proof" camera's AFTER the explosion? I'd think that the money should be spent on an off-site video storage device, a NAT drive, would be more useful? Of course that means a PC Based system would be requred. Just asking Rory.

i get great images from my Video Insight system, (ProView 19") but, i'm not looking for (nor do my customers) studio quality images ONLY because it's not worth the money spent unless it has purpose. there are good and bad monitors, systems, camera's, and it is NOT always directly traceable to the "box" providing the feed. ie. lousy camera's + great system + great monitor = lousy picture. there are many "parts" that can cause poor pictures. and i agree with Rory.......

hyperthread can cause video problems. disable it in the BIOS. also, make sure you have the latest and greatest drivers for your system. goto the web site of the manufactures and download the current. Video Insight's PC based cards are designed to handle Hyperthreading and multiple processors with no problems. Check it out.

if your are trying to light up the yard the best way is a street light lamp type that is installed by your local electric company. ANY lighting will help. IR only works well when it reflects. ir into an open yard produces nothing but dark unless you aim the bulbs at "something".

i disagree with the spider comment. ir and non-ir camera's are all prone to the spider, bird, and all sorts of other "cleaning" issues. What you need to plan is a good cleaning capabitity for yourself when you install the camera's. ie. putting a camera on a 50 foot pole provides a great view but is a pain to clean with a spider spins it's web. I always try to place the camera's where they can be cleaned with a 7ft. ladder. anything higher is going to cause you heartache.

The small size of the Camera Master enables it to be taken directly to the camera location, thus saving time and in many cases, reducing test and installation manpower. do a web search and you will find it. nice to have but not necessary. your money.

why go outside? Thomas.....won't a simple software program (PTZsetup) work here? I program mine from the server without any problems. And, can't you preprogram them BEFORE you hang'm?

read old posts on this forum to get a feel for the equpiment and install tips. Wireless shoudl be your last resort. Properly installed cables...you can't see them so your Wife may need a professional install?

only open the ports you need opened, via the router and XP Pro. Most likely you won't have to open any becasue you will be viewing on port 80, which is your web based port, which is open anyway. You have 2 sides to a system when we are talking "ports". yuou have the WAN and LAN. Wide area network.....internet, outside connection to the world, modem looking out. and the Local area network.........modem looking in. Woreless??? you did not mention it so i won't go there, but, that is another "window" that may need some blocking and security also. static ip..............depending on your situation you might want to go without and have a dns type configuration update your ip address. no-ip.com is a place to look for that info/choice. some modems and routers can also handle the dns updating for you. publish your ip? verizion may or may not provide this service. my guess is no. and you don't publish a ip, you publish a name.......and first you wen name will require a search to ensure that you are unique. after that there are several web publishing companies out there that can hook ya up. then what? fine tune and go fishing. the only things I did not see were things like a APC battery back up. sounds like you'll be at 300 watts so I'd go with a 1000kva apc....gives you approx. 20 minutes of back-up. Power supply for camera's? Altronics is best. Have fun...................

why not use the lobby entrance roof top as the base for the cameras? you could put a nice "rack" of camera's up there and they will be out of the "batters box" and you'd still get the coverage you need. I'd make them very much visable so that all the customers could see them yet no could "take them out". deterrance is always a good thing. anything you put on the walk way will get destroyed. just thinking outloud

the DVR obviously needs a stronger signal on that one channel, right? you need to fix that signal problem. cable degradedor bad? bad connectors? voltage not right (cable)? camera bad? cable receiving crosstalk or interfearance? I've seen my nicely installed cables get poorly installed cables run alongside, ontop of, and ect. AFTER I installed mine. Trace the cable route and look it over good. You never know who has been installing whatever over those camera cables. video signal sensitivity of a DVR compared to a PC based can be different BUT I would not look there to solve the problem. My experience tells me for you to look at; connectors, cable, power, equipment..in that order. I looked at buying a "signal tester" but finally decided against it because if you troubleshoot in a methodical manner you will be able to figure it out by process of elimination.
