  1. Cat 5 can be convenient, especially if it is already run which it might me in many facilities. You do still need power though and running AC over a single twister pair is not a good idea. So plan wisely. http://www.digitalwatchguard.com/reference/Manufacturers/VideoBalunsUnlimited/BL3265.pdf This simple Balun requires no tool and has Built in surge protection. Here are some Twisted Pair Design tools from Muxlab, who we started stocking because we think they have a solid product line and fair pricing. http://www.muxlab.com/support/application_notes.html

    Geovision & Modem Access

Yeah, but many of those test just check download speed. You need to make sure you are checking the upload speed from the server.

    Just get a Geovision card.
  4. You do want descent quality though 24/7. This is as cheap as I'd go. http://www.digitalwatchguard.com/reference/manufacturers/nuvico/NVCC-HW3895IR36.pdf

    Help With Geovision POS

Righto Scotty. Can I call you Scotty?
  6. Jsimon Is this accurate Spanish? I should ask one of my guys on Monday http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cctvforum.com&langpair=en%7Ces&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools
  7. Yeah. Right. We could translate all of our posts onto a Spanish section if we really had some time to burn: http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en If not, anyone can translate any info themselves, I guess. Should the info would be more accurate if it were actually posted by a Spanish speaking cctv pro.
  8. Hubbel? Who's that? Do they have a web site?
  9. Well, for a few bucks more, AC is a lot more resistant to interference and other potential factors that may affect video quality. Ace can is a stronger current and can be run longer distances. Watts it the true measurement of power 1 AMP at 12VD = 12 Watts 1 AMP at 24VAC = 24 Watts

    Geovision POS

One of the most common sales/tech questions out there is in regards to integrating Geovision with a POS system. The main thing is to make sure you have a POS system that output in serial ASCI text. Often, with POS systems it is impossible or nearly impossible to emulate a serial output without connection to an external printer. If you are going to buy an external printer, I highly reccomend Epson, since we have it working with Geo in our showroom.

    Geovision & Modem Access

With Internet Connectivity, there are 2 things; upload speed and download speed. For a Geo server, the main thing is upload speed. Many DSL and satellite lines give insulting upload speeds. You can do a test at: http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/BandwidthUp.asp In my opinion anything at least 50-60k is usable. 1Mbps or more is ideal. However, if you bandwidth is that weak, make sure to cap the number of channels serving in the Geo software so you dont choke your upload.

Wildcard, Is Windows Firewall enabled on the machine? To check go to Control Panel->Windows Firewall
  13. You would be taking a chance with the 30LED. You should do it right the first time. This camera will work well for you. I highly reccomend the AC powered version. I have included a link to the manufacturer's PDF. http://www.nuvico.com/product_images/NVCC-HWE922IR42N-2.pdf

    Help With Geovision POS

Hook up the POS to an external (Epson) serial printer. If you can get the printer to work, getting the integration to work will be a breaze.

    24 volt vs. 12 volt

Good to know. Would like to hear back from you 3 months from now just to make sure all is ok. Just out of curiosity.
  17. Good Idea! There is a large Spanish population involved in cctv. Do you speak Spanish and English well enough to translate important threads and information? We have Spanish sales and techs that are very helful to our Spanish speaking customers so I know for a fact this would be a great idea.

    HUPER DVR

Unless they're bringing something unique to the table like a new feature or recording compression, or if their pricing is really insane, I say stick with Geovision. Way more systems out there, so you know they are going to be around for RMA reasons, keeping your systems the same, and new software releases and patches.

I like Sybot Search and Destroy...it is stable and inlcludes a tea timer which offers real time protection believe it or not, Microsoft's beta spyware software is pretty good too Check it out: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

12VDC is beneficial for battery powered situations such as Mobile Surveillance
