  1. Hey Everyone, Please go easy on me as I'm new to this whole thing of CCTV and Home Surveillance. The rundown: I recently purchased an Amcrest kit (720p x 8cam) and was experimenting with it before the permanent install. I'm glad I did as I've had two camera's die in the 3weeks I've had it and the resolution was not what I expected. I found that some of the image "noise" was due to the cheap thin cabling provided with the bundle so I began making my own runs with siamese rg59 -- this greatly reduced the noise but I am still not able to pickup a license plate at about 30ft. Cut to today where two cams went out... well one is now black and won't power on and the other (still running factory cables is now flickering and turning on and off.) The 72 emails I got today for video loss tipped me off that something went haywire with the cams. ANYWAYS -- that's the backstory. And due to breaking my trust the Amcrest kit is going back via RMA. ****** As for the topic -- I've done a fair amount of research but the amount of information is daunting. I'd like to lean on you guys and the community’s extensive expertise to help me create a system for the house. I’m looking for your DVR/NVR/PC recommendations and awesome camera recommendations, please Requirements: -- 1080p or greater resolution (30fps) x 6-8 cams *outdoor rated* -- (Maybe HD-SDI… thoughts?) ----- I want to be able to read a license plate at 30 - 50ft with smooth movement of cars/people ----- I want to be able to playback the recordings while the DVR is continuing to record live as well as have the ability to connect remotely (web browser/chromebook) or via mobile (android/iphone) -- triplex? -- Local storage + I want to be able to upload my files (Images and Video) to the cloud/email and or text if the DVR is somehow compromised -- Motion “painting” ability to focus on certain areas and ignore others -- Incredibly stable and reliable (I don’t care how great the picture is if it’s going out and I can’t rely on it) -- I’d also like an indoor PTZ for the inside of my home that I can add on, as well Idea’s I’m tossing around and exploring: -- BlueIris installed on a PC? I hear a lot about this software.. is it really the best? ----- (I’m not opposed to building a standalone PC for this task) ----- Would you recommend this for the flexibility and if so -- recommendations (cards/pc specs ??) to accomplish my goals from above. -- Super stable and robust interface DVR/NVR (The Amcrest “firmware” wasn’t awful but it of course had some limitations) I’m looking for something more robust that can handle the throughput and be very reliable. -- BNC vs PoE? What’s the best for my goals? I’m probably forgetting some things but I also don’t want to write too much and bore everyone to death. Please let me know your thoughts and recommendations -- thanks in advance!!
