  1. Can you recheck what URL you are using because the format of the URL in your original post looks wrong but that may depend on what level of dyndns service you signed up for. A proper URL might look like http://myhomecamera.homeip.net:8001 Where 'myhomecamera' is the dyndns name you reserved I use that with no problem to access a camera. Also, I'm sure you know this but you cannot use that URL from inside your house to access it so you have to be outside the firewall.
  2. Personally I would use the export feature instead. That would allow you to create a video with the exact start and end frames you want.
  3. Is it possible that you set milestone to use full frame rate on motion and that is driving the extra bandwidth usage?
  4. I have been checking this out as well. A full comparison is here: http://www.milestonesys.com/products/ip_video_software/product_overview I have to say, that although the maintenance is expensive, they just helped me with an issue configuring a new IPX DDK-1600D (which requires the use of admin instead of the out of box default 'root') and the tech support was very responsive. Plus the upgrade to version 7 was covered by the maintenance contract.
  5. Pelco recently announced an IP board for its Spectra IV PTZ dome. I ordered the board and upgraded a Spectra IV SE with 35x day night camera. Took about an hour plus running a cat 5 cable to parallel the analog cable. I am pleased to say that the results are quite good and I now have that camera attached analog to a GE DVMRe with a translator board to access the coaxitron control and IP to a PC running Milestone streaming MPEG4 at 30 FPS. Without entering into another debate on analog vs digital, if you need both or are converting, this is a very good option to use your Pelco dome. You do need to upgrade the camera to the latest firmware, but that is easy if you have the maintenance cable and a laptop computer.

Anyone have luck with Pelco IP110

Hardwired - how are your IP110s doing with Milestone? I am again getting disconnects although when I go straight to the pelco browser interface I can see a reliable picture. Andy
  7. I tried 2 of these Pelco IP110s and neither one worked - anyone have one in production?

Total newb needs help with ip cctv

Ben, sounds like quite a challenge. I know this is a CCTV forum, but did you consider adding an alarm to your truck with a motion sensor and locking gas cap? If you go the CCTV route, you may spend a lot of time and money and then not be able to identify the person in the dark using wireless cameras. But to answer your question specifically, besides the camera(s), you will need a means of recording the images - most likely a PC based solution but if you scan the forum you will see a lot of good advice on solutions.

Anyone have luck with Pelco IP110

Milestone has fixed their driver for the Pelco IP110 with the latest device pack release 3.2. The connection is now reliable. At the previous release (3.1) the server constantly lost connection. The picture quality is very good - looks like the inside of the IP110 is the same camera system as the IS110 analog camera - in fact has the same model numbers. http://www.milestone.dk/support/Support_Updates/ShowSupportNews?id=1564
  10. Cannot get the web interface to work under Vista. Specifically for WV-NW484, although I have the same problem with other models. Talked with tech support and they basically said it doesn't work yet. It is only the image viewer which requires the OCX/AX plugins that fails, the rest of the interface works fine. Works fine under XP, but client has a Vista PC. Using Network Camera View3 from Matsu****a corp v 3.02.11 - installs automatically but then doesn't realize it is installed and tries to install it again which results it in being uninstalled. I have tried many combinations of security settings, etc. including disabling security entirely. Appreciate any ideas. Andy
  11. Update FYI: Panasonic just released their Vista compatible firmware update for the WV-NW484S. I can confirm that it works. With the previous version you could not get a live picture through a browser, it would just install and uninstall the activeX control. 12. I did a similar setup with Axis 241Q 4 port video servers going into a Milestone system - and I agree with your estimate on price. The new Panasonic IP cameras coexist with the older analog via video server just fine. Since the DVMRe records one frame, you will get twice the vertical resolution on playback with the new system which records both frames.

    Need help!

Justin, this doesn't answer your question, but if you are replacing the motherboard, you should not need the drivers for the DVR card unless you are also reloading the operating system which should not generally be required. On the other hand, if you are replacing the hard drive, then I understand that you will need these drivers. Please clarify. If you have taken over maintenance of a set of PC-based DVRs from another firm, they should be handing over to you the original install disks and license keys. Thanks
  14. In my experience, it is not likely that the 3 cables share a ground. The 3 wires likely continue for the whole length very similar to the way they stick out the end, just inside the over-jacket.
  15. As you probably know, AC alternates at 50 or 60 cycles and can bleed over to the video signal. That is why Siamese has the video in an rg59 isolated from power on 18/2. So I guess options are 1. Check whether the TFD-CVSH26AI24 is 12 volt switchable and use 12 volt DC. Some models are switchable. 2. Buy a different 12 volt camera such as the GANZ you mentioned 3. Power the cameras locally. 4. Run a separate 18/2 wire to each of the cameras to carry 24 VAC 5. Buy Siamese cable and tie it to the existing cable and pull it through the ceiling to replace it. Good luck!

PC Based DVR IP Camera system for office building

Take a look at Milestone Professional software. Do you really need 48 ports POE? Take a look at the Netgear FS726TP. It has 24 10/100 ports and Gig uplink for around $300.
  17. ok. latest DigiLinX firmware supports plug-and-play integration with several models of Panasonic IP-based security cameras: the KX-HCM10, KX-HCM230, KX-HCM250, KX-HCM270 and the KX-HCM280
  18. I guess you mean NetStreams DigiLinX system. I am familiar with the technology, but not with DigiLinx, however, in reviewing their product specs, I would raise the following points/questions. 1. Yes, it appears that only the Panasonic cameras are mentioned, but it seems to me the system only supports real time viewing of the IP camera, which means you are going to need a DVR/NVR in addition to the DigiLinX setup. What is not clear is how you will link your DVR/NVR playback to the DigilinX system - probably as a video device looking like a DVD player, or similar? 2. Whether or not you can share the PC for both the DigiLinx controller and DVR/NVR depends on the number of cameras you have, resolution, frame rate, etc. Also depends on how many remote clients you will have viewing the video simultanously. 3. You will also need to know whether the owner plans to stream high definition video outbound from the server to multiple TVs. This could tie up the network and processor from being able to capture video especially if you are doing motion detection. 4. The TouchLinX controllers are based on embedded Windows CE. That is the same as what many airlines seems to use in the personal video systems. Works fine for what they are designed for, but don't expect them to have the full functionality of a true Windows based remote client. Personally, I think you will be happier not trying to get your CCTV system to coexist on the same server with the DigiLinX, but rather, have your CCTV system output a quad view over to the DigiLinX with the front door, back door, etc and then let the owner access through a remote client if they want to do more.
  19. Definitely do the ladder routine and check the picture before drilling any holes. I have found that cameras mounted at or below the top of the door frame give better photos for identifying who is at the door. If you are only interested that someone is there, but not who it is, over the door would work. Also, make sure you try it at night with the lights on because there is a secondary reflection that occurs when the light that is closely mounted to the dome is on but not in the field of view - the light illuminates the inside of the dome and can cause a faint picture of the reflection of the camera. In other words, when you are holding up the camera to the wall in the proposed position, hold it in such a way that the you are not blocking the light which will strike the back or side of the camera to get a truer idea of how it will look when mounted. Instead of the 13" monitor, you can also use a laptop with video in, or the laptop attached to the remote monitoring of your video security dvr (which may introduce some delay).

    Editable video from IP camera

Get yourself a free one camera license of a software DVR such as Milestone. It has a very flexible export to AVI function.

    Daylight Savings Time Change

I suspect each system is a little different. On a Milestone system I accessed this morning, when in 'browse' mode, the timeline along the right side continued to show non daylight savings time through the night. Now it has reverted to daylight savings time. If you drag the timeline backwards, the playback freezes at 2:00am and resumes when you hit 1:00 am. If you drag it in the other direction, it plays through from 1:00am to 2:00 am. I am unable to access milestone.dk this morning, so maybe there are a lot of people trying to figure out if this is normal behavior or maybe their website is just down for maintenance. By the way, in the computer operations space, there are also different approaches including, where practical, planning scheduled maintenance during the 'hour' and ensuring that no jobs or transactions can ever had duplicate timestamps. Another way is to record everything in GMT so local time doesn't matter.

Does wavejet give a better picture than wavelet?

I am using the monitor output (Over the web interface the live and recorded look the same.) I tried to post some captures but I am getting "Could not access ftp directory: 'attachments/thumbs'. Please check your FTP Settings"

Does wavejet give a better picture than wavelet?

I would be happy to be proven wrong. I am recording at High quality and there is a big difference between the live video and the recorded video which cannot be attributed to compression alone. If I look at diaganol lines in the picture, it appears to confirm that the recording is at 240 horizontal lines but it could be full 640/720 wide. I will try to hook a DVMRe up to a video capture so I can post actual pictures.
  24. I have a Milestone system running on Vista for about a month - too early to really talk about stability but have not had any issues. Biggest problem with Vista is still missing drivers for printers, scanners, etc. My preference for a 'plug it in and forget it' system is still a standalone DVR by far. In terms of megapixel systems, hybrid DVR/NVRs can be an attractive alternative.
  25. Milestone will do MPEG4 as well as MJPEG depending on the camera. Check http://www.milestonesys.com/?cid=1181 under Vivotek. They have a trial option. It is more expensive than Luxriot, however.
