  1. I will be running cat5e to the camera locations through my attic and pass though my soffits (I think they are aluminum) I will then use Baluns for the power and coax connections to my cameras. The problem that I am running into is that I want to terminate per code and I don't know what that is. I also want the passthrough from the soffit to the camera which will be mounted to the side of the house, to look professional. Do I need to have a waterproof box in the soffits? This will need to be a old type work box as I have gutters and don't have full access to the soffit areas to add new work style boxes from above the soffit. Has anyone used the Cam-Box from arlington? http://www.aifittings.com/catalog/security/cam-box-kit-for-security-camera-installations/ Would this be too much weight on a vinyl or aluminum soffit to support? Do I need a box at all? Can I terminate the cat5, connect the baluns to the camera and use heat shrink to protect the ends, then passthrough a plate screwed to the soffit? If I can use a plate without a box, I could use these instead. http://www.aifittings.com/catalog/security/cam-kit/ Any recommendations or ideas on the products and code for this type of termination would greatly help.
  2. Hi all, Ive been looking around the internet and this forum and Im needing some direction. Any advise on the below would be greatly appreciated. Here is what we are hoping to get out of the system: - 16 Channels (I dont have to have 16 ports in the NVR, as long as I can use a POE switch and add more cameras) - 1080 resolution excellent daytime distance, night vision distance on at least 8 outdoor cameras. - NVR w/ good software and an IOS Phone App. I dont want to have to fiddle with getting things to work, patching etc. - Motion recording, alerting? - Multiple replaceable drives, 2- 3 tb storage - Warranty/Customer service/ easy to repair or replace boards? I see hikvision is recommended on the site here. I also see Dahua recommended on the forum alot. From some internet reading the remote viewing via the internet was a pain to setup and required an alternate source/Feed? Lorex I heard was cheap but I also heard they are rebranded Dahua, which I see Dahua NVRs are what many on the forum is using. Qsee. Also Junk? What about Samsung NVRs?
