I can't agree more. But it was a huge construction and installing cables can't be done anymore. So I'm trying my best to do anything from this point. I honestly thought 70-80 ft would be tolerable even for PTZ camera despite being 12vdc. There are a lot more dramas. The owner of this gas station is being a prick so I'm just trying to wrap things up as fast as I can. Worst case scenario, he won't pay me although I've been working on this for about 2 month. Time was running out and I found this out at the very end.. But I learned a lot from this and I won't make the same mistake. So moving on to topic, thanks for the reply.

Let's say the 12v dc camera is getting 1-2v extra. So it would have around 13v-14v What will happen to the camera? Same goes to 24v ac cameras, if they have 1-2 extra voltage, will they go bad? or just not function like low voltage? My regulated power supply has output of 13.8v DC and other one supplies 14.2v DC. The PTZ camera is getting 10.8v~10.9v, which is enough during the day and night with infrared activated. However my issue is, when I set up preset and have sequence mode on, it stops working during night time when infrared activates. Other than that it functions well enough during the day. I was assuming anything between 12v-13v would be considered safe. I was curious what will happen if cameras get higher than regular voltage and what is the actual safe voltage?

If I install HDCVI 1080p cameras like following: Will the license plate be visible when I zoom in from the recorded footage of DVR?

I want to install cameras at a gas station and the owner wants the license plates to be visible. I can't install that many cameras, as the channels were already occupied. So I'm left with 7-8 channels. Anyway this place is pretty big. Is there a really good quality camera that can pick up license plates and even scratches of the car without zooming in very much, that's not an IP system? What are some factor for a good quality display? MP + resolution + ? Thank you in advance and a happy new year Edit. I've used RG-59, the distance between the power and camera should be 80-100 ft. Two of the camera that's working properly are around 30-40 ft. These cameras are getting 11.4v and 11.7v These two camera work perfectly fine even with infrared. The distance between the power and the PTZ used to be 200ft but I was not getting sufficient voltage at all, around 8v-10v so I cut down all the wires and installed power supply as closest to the camera as I can. So if this 14.2v power supply plan doesn't work, for example, if its too risky for cameras to get higher than certain voltage, that means I'm gonna have to set up another power supply box outdoor in the open, which the owner doesn't prefer. I will try to explain every details if I was asked. Thanks for the reply

I have installed 4 PTZ camera at a 76 gas station. 4 PTZ are all outdoor and I tried my best to shorten the distance between the cameras and its power. However, 2 out of 4 is still not functioning to the fullest. 2 PTZ cameras that are working are getting 11.5v and 11.7v. Other two that aren't working so hot is getting 11.0v~11.1v and 10.8v~10.9v. I haven't checked the camera that gets 11.0v~11.1v if it is functioning well because it's always on the bright side, so the infrared was never on to check. So my guess is these PTZ camera will fully function when it''s above 11.3v+ During the day time, everything is perfect. Even the presets, sequence, motion tracking, everything works completely fine. So my idea since I can't shorten the wire anymore, I will try to get a power supply and increase the voltage. I had 2 existing power supplies and they supply 13.8v and 14.2v. Now I'm hesitating to try this. Will this kill the camera? What usually happens when a camera is getting more than 1.0v~2.0v? Thanks for the answers in advance!

Since one of the camera is already activated with the text inserter I'm assuming it's connected properly. I can't seem to find the cables though. I don't even think the camera is connected to video input of text inserter but it's somehow working. I wanted to know if there was some other way it's done. Such as, having a hub in the middle that is connected with text inserter's video input and output and camera in out also connected to it, then the hub goes to the DVR? It sounds like you have two AVE UNITS with your customer having said both used to work You say you needed to change the cable for the cameras work ...... And you went direct from camera to dvr and not to the AVE unit This tells me that the AVE unit has lost power and that will also switch camera image off. How many pos systems are at the store ? I don't think there are any POS system. Just two cash register. As in AVE unit, are you referring to Video Input?

The camera went directly to DVR. What does two data feeds mean? Is there a way for me to get both cameras to be displayed with text even if it didn't go to pos unit?

I'm working on a gas station right now. I was asked to take a look at the camera on top of the register so I took a look and the powers were dead. So I got the new rg-59 in and it's working again. However, the guy is asking me why aren't the texts being displayed. I told him I don't know that's not my issue, since he only told me about fixing the camera and I had no idea he had the text inserter activated. Now he is asking me if I can get the text to be displayed again. Then he told me that 2 cameras on top of the registers were activated with VSI-PROMAX. Thus, I expected 2 VSI-PROMAX but I only found one.. Is there a way to connect 2 cameras with a single text inserting device? The device has 1 video input and 1 video output. I know input goes the camera and output goes to DVR/Monitor. I want to know the ways! Please guide me!

I do think it's the resistance of the cable due to the distance is the cause of voltage drop. What if I buy and install voltage regulator or voltage booster? Would they help? Or is there a device that maintains the dropped voltage due to the distance?
