Want to mix and match dvr and cameras
TERRANCE replied to cirtemid's topic in General Digital Discussion
I have a GW NVR with 4 GW cameras and 4 reollink cameras. All the 8 cameras are ONVIF and function, but I do have issues with the motion record settings on the non GW cameras,, the timezone's get mixed up when I reset the NVR. The GW cameras on the GW NVR work flawlessly. Maybe with the higher end cameras you can switch and swap,, but with these lower end ones if I were to do it over I would get the same brand cameras as the DVR/NVR -
How to Remote Access NVR Without Router Port Forward
TERRANCE replied to videocheez's topic in Computers/Networking
A quick and easy solution might be to use something like teamviewer. I have it loaded on my home laptop, I just 'teamviewer' in remotely and can view my NVR via IP address. -
New install at my home (newbie any help appreciated)
TERRANCE replied to Cossy Mike's topic in General Digital Discussion
I installed a GW Security NVR and 8 cameras a few months ago with a 4tb drive. I've had ZERO problems. They likely aren't of the quality of some of the better brands but the camera quality, playback are very good in my mind. As with most of these, the directions are a bit sketchy and the built in app is a bit fussy - but its pretty much plug and play. Setting up things like Motion record was hard to figure out, but my 1080p cameras (4) are recording 24/7 and I have almost 30 days of history with the 4tb HD. I would recommend you get the same branded cameras as the DVR/NVR. GW offers many different PTZ cameras. They do have pretty good phone support. This NVR has 2 cameras and you could add 2 PTZ. Unless you already have COAX already installed, I would recommend one with POE as you only have to run CAT5/6 and not an additional power supply. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA46G3RK0487&cm_re=GW_security_POE_NVR-_-9SIA46G3RK0487-_-Product -
You might have already tried this, when I go into the playback view (on my GW NVR),, there is a download button near the bottom right section of the screen. That opens up a window with a list of files from the previous day(s). In there you can download the .DAT file,, There is also the option to download player there.. Have you tried that one? I then had to open up the player,, and open the file from within the player. If I tried clicking on the .DAT file, it opened up the player but never played.

How to access D-Link NVR without internet?
TERRANCE replied to mirak's topic in General Digital Discussion
Your NVR should have an IP address. My setup I have 8 IP cameras connected to a POE switch, the POE switch has one cat5 cable to the back of my router. My NVR is also plugged into the back of my router. If I plug a computer (or use wifi), within my house - I can type in the NVR IP address and I have access to all the NVR functionality. If you don't know the NVR IP address, login to your routers config, it should show all the connected devices, you might be able to just double click on it from there,, or you can go in your browser and type in that IP address. If I wanted to access it from outside of my house, I would have to have an internet connection and have the NVR IP address 'port forwarded'. -
Is it stilll functioning or do i need to delete storage?
TERRANCE replied to Physicalmiracle's topic in General Digital Discussion
My system is only about a month old, and I kept an eye on the recording & HD. Mine also shows the HD is full, but I do have the over-write, so I get about 14 days recording on 3 of my cameras. The 14 days continues to move and i can playback from yesterday. So I am not surprised by the HD showing it is full, but check the other settings as the previous poster said, look for the over-write option. -
TP-LINK TL-3424P PoE & AVTECH AVH516 + IP CAM
TERRANCE replied to jack.agetro's topic in General Digital Discussion
My NVR isn't ventilated all that well, my POE is out in the open. I've not had any disconnection issues. I would recommend you try and isolate it to either the NVR, POE or individual camera. A) Is it only certain camera(s) that disconnect while the remaining all stay on line? Could be a camera issue. B) If it is different cameras disconnecting, try just rebooting the NVR. If that fixes them then likely it is an NVR issue. C) Next time it happens if it isn't A or B, try to just reset the POE- Does that fix it? My biggest problem is having the camera time and the NVR in-sync. The timezones get mixed up, I think the nVR overrides the camera, but it doesn't overwrite it correctly.. I have 8 cameras and 4 are a different brand than the NVR and they give me troubles, but not disconnecting. -
Can't view Hikvision DS-7200 DVR on local wifi network
TERRANCE replied to andybear's topic in General Digital Discussion
Great, glad you got it solved. There are some very educational documents on the internet how DCHP works and how the client and Router (DHCP server) interact. In short, when you have a laptop, phone, tablet, DVR and it is configured for DHCP (or Not static), it sends the DHCP server a request for an IP address. Assuming your server (or router) is set to use DHCP, it returns an IP address. I think there is another step in there where the two confirm the IP address,, but that is how I understand it to work. You had the static IP address specified, but also the enable DHCP so your router likely was assigning it a different IP address. Or maybe there was confusion on the DVR end because it had a static IP and also the router tried to assign it one. I learned something new, I like trying to help other people troubleshoot things. Unfortunately these lower end surveillance systems are rough around the collar. They seem to be reliable but hard to get setup because of the bugs and poor documentation. -

It would be nice to see you get this fixed today. Try turning off the DHCP (uncheck the Enable DHCP checbox on the DVR), reboot... Make sure your DVR is plugged into the router via Ethernet cable. Login to your router, can you see your device? Double click on it or type it into your browser. I checked my NVR settings, and If I check the ENABLE DHCP, it greys out all the fields so I cannot assign it an IP address. So with it enabled, your router likely is assigning a different address to it....Or at least that could be the problem... -

TERRANCE replied to andybear's topic in General Digital Discussion
Hmm didn't that work. I had to uncheck DHCP in the Network setting on the DVR to change the IP address, I changed it to 192.168.0.100 then checked the DHCP option again, saved settings, tried going to the IP address on my laptop but failed again said server at that location not responding. I even switched the DVR off again then on, hoping that the updated IP server info would be recognised by the modem, nope. It currently says this in Network > General settings on the DVR: NIC type - 10m/100m Self-adaptive Enable DHCP - checked IP4 Address - 192.168.0.100 IP4 Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0 IPv4 Default gateway - thats blank IPV6 address 1 - long number IPV6 address 2 - long number IPV6 default gateway - thats blanks MAC address - long number MTU - 1500 DNS server - that blank Alternate server - thats blank PPPOE - thats not enabled What is the IP address of your ROUTER? Or how about when you login to your router, what are some of the other device IP addresses. Somehow you need to get the DVR showing up on your router as a device, just like a laptop that you have in the house might have. I had a similar issue with a camera and it had a static IP address of say 192.168.0.2 and my router only allowed ip addresses of 192.168.2.x. If nothing else, you can reset the NVR to the defaults,, try once more to set it to STATIC and in a range your router is ok with. If that doesn't work, you might want to call Hikvision tech support -

TERRANCE replied to andybear's topic in General Digital Discussion
Assuming your router is set to use DHCP you will have a beginning and ending pool.. Like 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.254. I had a similar issue with one of my cameras, and I had to go in and assign an address in that range for the camera to work. I know you have a DVR but it might be a similar issue. Login to your DVR using the mouse/TV - change the IP address to be in your range. Try 192.168.1.100. Then try to hit it from the browser using your new assigned IP address. -

Yeah when i type in the IP address in the browser it fails. I just logged into the router and I can't see it as one of the connected devices. So I don't think its connect to the network. Do you think I have to enter the password of the wifi network into the settings on the DRV itself? You shouldn't have to, I assume your DVR is connected via a wire to your router? I have an NVR and it simply plugs into the router and plugged in devices shouldn't require a password SSID or that stuff. Maybe DVRs are different in this aspect? Is your DVR supposedly wireless? If it has an Ethernet port, make sure its plugged into your router. Try a different ethernet cable if it currently is plugged in and you cannot see it on your routers config screen. You likely should see lights on the RJ45 port both on the router and DVR side when they are connected. -

You should be able to ping it or type in the IP address in your web browser. You should be prompted by a login & password dialog window. You would only have to do port forwarding if you are trying to access it outside of your home router. Try pinging the IP address. Or go into your router config and see if it sees the device, you should be able to click on it from there. -
Looks like a good package, expandable to 8 cameras if you ever need them. It has the POE built in, so you don't have to run separate power cables.

I won't claim to know much then the single system I installed at my residence, but here is a lower end system. I have the same cameras and no they are not commercial quality, but the have very good clarity 1080p. The NVR has can obviously be accessed from a TV (via HDMI) & mouse off of the NVR,, or by using the NVR IP address when you are on your 'local router'. The NVR has some basic playback capabilities. You can record 24/7,, scheduled, or by motion. The playback tool allows you to zoom, download files, etc. It works well. I had the cat5 run, it was simply a matter of connecting the cat5 from my home router to the POE switch and have the cameras plugged into the back of the POE switch. No other wires/cords are needed. http://www.amazon.com/GW-Security-Channel-System-Cameras/dp/B011684YI8/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1452718572&sr=8-10&keywords=GW+security+nvr

Suggestions, Package bundle or Single pieces
TERRANCE replied to bbq ribs's topic in General Digital Discussion
I am still learning, but after reading more on this forum, it seems (like most everything) there is a high tier (commercial grade stuff) like Axis,, then there is mid range, and low range. I started with the low range because it was cheap. My entire 16 channel system was about $1500 after wire, connectors, good crimper, etc. That includes a 16 channel NVR ($375 newegg). I bought a 4 tb segate surveillance HD ($135 newegg). I have a 4 port POE switch ($50 on amazon) and an 8 port POE switch (one for out building and the other for inside house),, 8 port was about $100. I have 8 lower end, 2mp stationary bullet cameras ($75 each). The cat5e was about $175 for 1000 feet and the RJ45 crimps (the ones you can slide the individual wires through) $30 for 50 or so,, the good crimiper was about $50 (I like tools). Needless to say, I have a good starter system. I assume it will last 5+ years, maybe the elements, certainly technology will limit their age. But it does what I need it to do. Watch the property, record motions. Alert me of visitors. When i am on the road I can proxy into my home computer, and view all the cameras. -
Sure, you can buy two cheap cameras off of Amazon, buy two bullet Reolink IP cameras, $79ea. They are POE enabled, but they also come with cord you plug into the wall AC. A $50 POE switch would make them a little more portable, you would only need the cat5/cat6 cable from your router to the cameras. These reolink come with a cd with a software that lets you view the cameras, set them up to record, scheduled record or motion. Either way, for under $200 you can connect the cameras to your router and use teamviewer to view your laptop (when you are remote).

Setting up a system using Cat6 between multiple locations
TERRANCE replied to PBX8944's topic in System Design
I have a similar setup on my property. My house and an out building about 75 feet away. I have 6 cameras mounted on the out building and 2 cameras inside the house. I have my incoming internet feed to the modem, in the house. Off the modem is my main router. I have cat6 run out to the outbuilding where I have another router (configured as an access point (AP)- very easy to do). So the two routers are connected via the cat6. At this point I could add cameras to either router, and the camera software (and my NVR) sees them no problem. I am using POE cameras, so I have two separate POE switches (which eliminates the need to external power), the power is in the cat6. So my router in the out building I have a POE switch hanging off it, and the 6 cameras are plugged into that POE switch which is plugged into the AP router,, which makes it way back to my NVR hanging off the main router. Once the cameras are connected, the IP address is available on your 'home network' and you location makes no difference other than the cat6 limit which is like 100 meters. And i might add, all the camera 'data' makes it way through the single cat6 cable, not individual runs or anything. -
Suggestions, Package bundle or Single pieces
TERRANCE replied to bbq ribs's topic in General Digital Discussion
Hey bbq_ribs,, that is a good question and I struggled with that very question late last year. Mind you I am not an expert but I can share some thoughts. First off, the stuff coming from overseas (essentially all of it) is relatively easy to setup, but hard to diagnose & configure all the bells and whistles. The documentation is garbage. The website or google rarely is much help. The online phone support is hit and miss. I would recommend if you do get the items separate, buy the same brand. I have 4 of the reolink 1080p cameras and a GW (great wall) Security NVR, and recently added 4 more 2mp GW cameras (non PTZ - pivot/tilt/zoom). The cameras work well with the NVR camera setup, but not so good on the GW Security camera app.. Vice versa, the reolink cameras work well on their app, but I cannot get the GW cameras to work with that app But overall, it is nothing fancy but it works well. I have 8 cameras, a 4 tb harddrive. Have the 4 primary cameras set to record 24/7 - I get about 2.5 weeks of recording, constantly cycling the oldest of files. One of my current questions is how can I set them to identify the motion, the manual is trash and I've tried to get through tto support,,I call them they tell me they will call me back, then I get a phone call at 10pm when I am in bed. Either way, you should be able to get the system up and working and have 1080p cameras, but then fine tuning it will take some trial and error. Here is one package on Amazon, mind me I don't claim to be an expert but I see no one replied to your question. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011684YI8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 I installed this NVR, with my own POE switch and 4 reolink cameras, I've since added 4 of the GW Security cameras and the image is bit better and easier to configure). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA46G2CA2687&cm_re=GW_Security_NVR-_-9SIA46G2CA2687-_-Product I would imagine this is a cheaper brand, but the cameras and NVR seem well built, I have two bays for hard drives and you simply slide them in and they work. The cameras are adjustable and have very good resolution both in day and at night. I ran Cat6 and my furthest camera is about 300 ft from the router and the clarity is outstanding Once you get it setup, you can either control it through the HDMI port (TV) & and mouse on the back of the NVR... or simply use the IP address of the NVR (when your on your home router) and configure it from another computer using your web browser.
