If you use 1500VA or higher capacity UPS, you can connect 4 of them at a time... Again, calculate your total power useage and pick up the unit that can give you at least 15 minutes of power in case of outage and then program it to normally shut down each and every system so that you do not experience any system, files or database corruptions.... Static IP necessary?
MetzLyov replied to securitymonster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Which ones and how do they work? I do not see how these type of routers will work with DVRs, as the only way to connect them is via known IP address... Levon -
So do we... No DVR leaves our facility without UPS device and we cut no corners for this unit. Every DVR goes out with at least 500VA ups which is also capable to connect to such DVR vis RS232. Levon

Static IP necessary?
MetzLyov replied to securitymonster's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Normally, if the router captures an IP address, it does not let it go until you clear and then capture another IP address. At home, I have a simple router and I use the same IP address for months until the ISP takes out that IP address from their pull... All I have to do then is to refresh the router for it to capture another IP and then I back to business... You need a static IP for Network IP cameras to work. For DVRs, well I heard that there are DVRs that will work with dynamic IP, but yet to see one to do it. Regardless, if IP address changes, then you must know about it, as that is the only way you can connect to your DVR... Levon -
Here is yet another advantage for chosing the right UPS - Most of them come with $10,000 damage warranty.... We have not seen one causing any problems to any of our equipment, but it is good to know that if something happens and that you can prove that the UPS caused the damage, then you are entitled to collect... Just make sure you do not overload the UPS and always calculate the overall VA rating (or sometimes called wattage) and then you can calculate how long will it hold the DVR before shut down. Some of them have a feature that ties the UPS to a DVR via RS232 cable that allows you to program and to monitor the UPS activities (monitor overload, set alarm levels, set alarm condition etc.), but the most important feature that I like that when power goes down, it sends a signal to the DVR to perform normal shut down, rather than turn off instantly when it runs out of battery power... Good luck. Levon

Herm, What do you disagree on? Is it my assessment on a one lens manufacturer or the Pano camera? Coop, I agree with your assessment. I also think Pano is heading to disaster and I hope they are still around few years from now... There is not much difference between Pano distribution and "certified delaer" pricing... Few percentage points with much bigger headacks as a distributor vs. a dealer. Here is a very interesting question. Since we already established that Pano pricing is higher than normal compared to other brand manufacturers, what do you think CP484 should be priced as?? How about their normal CP244 color camera or better yet, their high end CL924 series? What about their robust mini-domes with CP484 built in? It is easy to critisize about the price, but where do you think it should be and lets be realistic here? Will it be 5%, 10% or even lower price or is it something else? Levon

My suggestion is to use (2) DVRs with single UPS rated no less than 500VA. We have been using this simple formula for UPS units in many sites with multiple DVRs, video control switches, etc... It is cost effective and yet, delivers the goods... Good luck! Levon

Thank means you are using Windows or Linux based DVRs and that makes a perfect sense... Levon

What is your main goal for these UPS units? Is it to filter brown outs, power surges or to keep the DVR working with there is a power outage for some 15 minutes or an hour?? Levon

BOSCH.. Need Urgent Feedback!!!!!

Rory, I think you just came up with an excellent slogan for GE advertising group "with GE im guaranteed" This is good man... -
Thanks man... May be Herm should have you run this forum On a different topic, I need to talk to you. Can you please PM me, so that I can reply back? Thanks, Levon

I will suggest to sub-group your DVRs with no more than 2 per single UPS. Also make sure that the VA rating is at least 500VA or higher... Normally we will use 1,000VA UPS to power up and maintain no more than 2 DVRs at a time... Levon

Rory, Do you know how long it takes to obtain access to the dealer section? I followed your link and left a PM for Herm, but so far, nothing... Please let me know. Thanks, Levon

Rory, You should try Bosch latest DIBOS series, which actually will arrive to U.S. any moment now... This series comes with built in MPEG4 compression and very features rich (POS, etc.) and very price competitive... This series DVRs were used by many prime banks in Europe... Levon -
Coop, I have used (and still do) Pano equipment for a very long time.. Do not really care for their procedures on handling warranty related issues nor happy with their pricing, but then again, they think they are the best.... I DO NOT THINK SO... Thinking the way they did caused a major collapse of their business. They shut down their New Jersey and Seattle distribution centers and are still moving somewhere close to Chicago. There was a major shake up of the upper management, which basically got fired and was replaced by less experienced and I am not sure what is worse... All I know is that if someone likes Panasonic, they always buy Panasonic and there is no rime or reason that can be justified. Their DIII are better than DII (at least that is what our internal tests shows), however the Bosch latest cameras are priced better and more flexible and better picture quality in a very harsh environments (lighting conditions). I like their latest DVRs and their PTZ domes, however from the price stand point, well... Pano is not competitive, as they keep driving the prices higher. I think they will be the first company that will start selling direct (they already have been cought doing it). According to some reports that I read, they have been testing this concept for a while, but are afraid to implement, because they do not know how the market will react.... They want to become the Dell Computers of the Security market by selling direct.... GOOD LUCK WITH THEM! Levon

What's up Coop?? Besides this camera and their high end CL924, not much of anything else is worth from Pano... Levon

Fred, Since you installed 26 high end cameras and a good power supply and 2 DVRs, can you explain why you are using a mux?? Is it for "call up" purposes?? If I am reading your components correctly and all the cameras are 24vac, then chances are very good that your mux could be the problem... You also stated that you changed some cables around, what type of cables are you using? Is it a coax or CAT5E?? I have seen a similar problem with one of our installations, where set of 8 cameras were giving us a problems, even after we changed the cables.. What turned up was that a set of cables were run very close to main electrical power distribution of the store, thus introduced the 60HZ into the cable. The simple fix was to move these cables few feet away and the problem went away... Double check your cable runs to insure that they are not very near to electrical panels or tie wrapt to electrical conduits... Levon

Rory, I did not know that I had to register sperate... I just PM Herm... Levon

Hey Rory, Do you know how I can be part of "Dealers" forum?? Levon

Rory, This camera's performance is exceptional. Its performance falls between your normal hi res color cameras and hi res day/night cameras. Being able to adjust on wide dynamic range setting, the picture quality is second to none... Well, I did not post pricing, even though Herm thought I did. The only thing that I have done was to post a URL for the specs... Besides purchasing first batch of 1,000 of these cameras, we have a backorder of another 5,000 more and we are selling the hell out of it... For anyone in this forum, I can extend additional discounts if anyone is interested. Please PM me... Levon

Good choice... Levon

Cooperman, great observation and technical explanation of higher rated cameras and lenses... very well put together.. Sjmaye - my suggestion, keep away from Tamron lenses... You will be very dissapointed when using with high end camera like CP484... Between Computar, Tokina, Cosmicar, Canon and Fujinon, you have excellent quality lenses available for high end camera like CP484... Levon

BOSCH.. Need Urgent Feedback!!!!!
MetzLyov replied to cctv_down_under's topic in General Digital Discussion
Basic special application can qualify a warehouse location with multiple roll up gates going upward during the day or night causing tremendous lighting changes as big rigs move in and out. Ordinary cameras will "wash off" the picture, whereas these cameras not only will give you a solid overall picture, but can easily filter the excess lighting or dark spots of the picture and then idenitify a person or persons with very clear background showing tremendous details on any activity.... Panasonic CP484 performs similar, but looses details in the background activitiy, as it focuses on the person, therefore does not provide overall quality of the picture you will expect.. Another application is an environment that has constant lighting chagnes - movie studios, military target ranges, government experimental laboratories and many others.... Levon -

Kaysadeya, No matter what price this camera or any similar camera is, the consenses will always state that it is on the high side... However, when you observe a tremendous difference in picture quality vs. others in the same category and similar prices, you will realize that it is priced right... If I were to tell you that I can give you any discount on this camera, I am sure you will still state that it is expensive, because you may not have an application for this type of technology... These type of cameras obviously are not for everyone, thus it has its special applications... If you find that application and plug in this camera, you will see very satisfied customer... Levon -
Does anyone know something about marchnetworks dvr?
MetzLyov replied to jsimon's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Rory, If you need any technical information that is not covered in the spec sheet, let me know... I know that the same technology using MPEG4 will appear in DVMRe series soon.... Levon
