Any mutli-screen view will be multiplexed shots regardless if it is Sanyo or anyone else. Your observation is correct on the 3009 series containing RS-485 and RS-232 ports vs. 3506 series... Do you want indepth comparison? Even though both come with basic and similar specs, there is additional technical information availble, however I am not sure what purpose they will serve unless if you can specify your application... Both units are excellent performers, embedded systems, easy to program and manage and with no nonsense warranty. Sanyo also has one of the best technical support teams in this industry. Combined with these fact, it also comes with 3 years warranty is yet another major benefit... For obvious reasons, there is a price variance going from one to the next and it also has everything to do with hard drive configuration. There is basically no difference except the on number of ports... Unless if you are comparing to Cheetah and Tiger models, they both are the same... Both the 6 channel and 9 channels basically using similar hardware (except the number of ports), compact flash slot, LAN/WAN control, etc.. and the same firmware/software.. Excellent embedded systems, very easy to operate and program and both come with 3 years warranty... Levon

I will not say it is bad, what I will say is the mix of the products do not look right... Where are the lenses, the cables, the connectors and the power supply? Why is the outdoor housing with heater and blower so high? I am not familiar with this DVR or its sofware, but I know you can do better... What is the warranty that they gave you for this hardware? Joe, Belden and West Penn merged together over 2 years ago.. They make the same identical cable, but put individual brand names respectively... We have used nothing but West Penn cable and now Belden as well.. Never had any issues with their cable. Even thought both of these brands seem little more expensive, it is well worth it! Belden brand tends to be more expensive dependent who you talk to, but the wires are manufactured in the same factories, so there is not difference between Belden and West Penn. Levon

Your need for a PTZ camera will not cover in your budget, so PTZ based sytstem will not be avail... Here are your options: (2) day/night camera with 5.0mm - 50.0mm autoiris lens. (2) outdoor housing with heater & blower 1 spool of siamese cable and connectors power supply either 4 channel or 9 channel DVR. One of your main requirements for the DVR is to inform you of any presence in your yard... The problem with that is if there is a wind, rain or any animal going near by, you will be notified and that will be a major drag of your time... My suggestion is when you notice something is missing or there is a notification that something was stollen, then you will have the chance to playback the video and view who is doing it and then when it was taking place. The above hardware can be had for less than your budget and I am sure there are several members that can help to send you a quote.. If you need additional information please pm me... Levon

Each manufacturer uses one of the known compression techniques and with slight modification of the software (or firmware), they like to call their own. What operating system is being used is not important for this discussion and regardless if it is Windows, Linux, Nucleous (hope I am spelling this correctly) or machine languate written by them... I am sure we all have our favorite ones. I am just curiuos what is your take on this topic?? Levon

Importance of the cable runs reflects the professionalism of the installer! All the cables have to be spooled and tied together in the console room or in the ceilings and properly marked and numbered... Otherwise, some head will.... In my opinion, do the job as if it is for your own home or business, then the outcome should be great... Levon

Rick, if you can find (2) doctors that will agree on a procedure for the same patient, please let us know... In the security market, it is the same, you will never find 2 people agree 100% on which hardware and software someone may need for surveillance purposes... If we confused you, we are very sorry for that... Your selection on DVMRe CT series is an excellent choice... It is an "embedded" system and it comes with many very useful features that you will use. Scott, the shuttles have embedded systems and no hard drives - flash drives are what they use mainly... extremely expensive at the moment, but we will see them well may be in the next 15 to 20 years.... Anyone care for a flash drive Levon

I posted my assessment on a "true" embedded DVRs. Please refer to few posts above this and I wanted to focus on that, rather general embedded systems... Being paranoid is fine - it makes someone to be very complete and there is nothing wrong with that... But sometimes you need to pull back from such mind set and smell the roses - The world is not as bad as you may think.... I have worked with many different embedded systems and yes, it is a pain to work with them. However it is even more difficult to work with PC based systems, as you have to configure the newer hard drive, format them, partion them, do all the updates, etc.... Yes, accedent do happen, but what is that have anything to do with taking control of the embedded DVRs remotely? You can control the hard electronics BIOS if it is a flash BIOS and some of the embedded DVRs come with one - several that I do not want to note due to security reasons... However, if we are talking about BIOS chip that you burn with the code, well that is impossible to break remotely. It has never been done nor ever will regardless how hard your try - my engineering background confirms this statement without any hesitation... I fully agree with you about the embedded system ability to autoconfigure is a bad form of a setup and if we are doing such installations, before we install, we always assign a specific IP address of customer's choice, setting up all the cameras and programming of the DVR and at the end is when we tie it to their networks...
