Video Splitter for (2) cameras
MetzLyov replied to MetzLyov's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Well said wireless.... At least you do not have to worry about your supplier snatching your customers away and leave you out in the cold (I hope) like in case of Pelco.... I think it is just matter of time that they fold or get bought out and they are hoping it is the second option... Levon -

AD, do you see why I started this thread? At least we have a better understanding now than before... Levon

Guys, I know that everyone is always talking about DVR resolutions using terminology words, descriptions, a lot of marketing hype and somehow, everything has something to do with IPS or FPS of the DVR resolutions.... It will be very interesting to know what is everyones take on the knowledge for the difference between FPS vs. IPS verbiage... Levon

Tom, it is a great design and very functional unit. It does require more than usual knowledge to make it work, but that is why we have Rory Sold quite of many, had some problems with out of box failures, but overall, an average performer. In the nutshel, it is a decent product, providing that you do not pay attention to its very high pricing. Also, god forbid if it fails (you know these products do fail, as they all use the same pile of silicon junk), then you are stuck with wait period of well, around 6 to 8 weeks until it gets fixed and returned back not by Panasonic, but one of their "authorized" centers... You will incur shipping costs to such center and they will pick up the tab on the way back and they will give you 90 days warranty.. I could never understand Panasonic's warranty conditions - it suppose to have 3 years warranty except when it fails and then when repaired, it comes with 3 months warranty and this cycles continues until the 3 years warranty expires... The whole process restarts again when you get a newer product. Levon

Data, I am very glad that you like this manufacturer and if it works for you, then stay with them. I am not sure why people pay for this brand, most of which are OEM items anyway.... At least you like them and good luck on your ventures with them... Coop, I am an old dog that will not learn new tricks... I have been doing this for too long. In the last 26 years in this business, not much went by me, regardless if it is a product line or a manufacturer... In fact, the video splitters were hot item over 15-20 years ago, but now very difficult to find. I think it will be best that I do not discuss this manufacturer in this forum or even in the dealer section, as I am sure my comments will not be, well what you call "nice"... I am sure everyone will have their say and I will respect that, but this manufacturer name does not exist in my vocablary (you see, I did not even use it once) .... All I can tell you is that if any manuacturer or a distributor goes around you or circumvents your agreement does not deserve or should ever be given any attention now or in the future.... Levon -

Data, I already have it.. It is from American Video Equipment: http://www.americanvideoequipment.com/catalog/pipc/pipc.htm Besides being PIP, it also splits the screen to reflect two pictures... Levon -

za, Rory will put a system together for you and it will be much better overall... Since you have a store, you can increase the deterrance factor by adding more of dummy cameras too, as you are installing "live" cameras... Also, not sure what type of store that you have, you can also protect your merchandize using dummy tags (similar to live tags that will activate the system that gets installed at the door) or using ink tags to increase such a deterence... Data, you are correct in your assessment, however I am not looking for PIP rather split the screen... The unit from Amerian Video Equipment provides both PIP and split functions.. This product was avail many years ago and nowadays, I guess very few actually carry them. The application that we need is very specific - (2) cameras with special zoom lens are to monitor metal drilling machine from (2) different angles and the operator is the view both pictures on the 9" monitor that is installed 18" away from the machine... Another application that I have is to place (2) ruggedized cameras on the front and the back of a military vehicle and the operator to view both pictures through a one monitor... Levon -

The week of ISC, my schedule shows that first I will be in Seattle for at least 2 days and another 2 days in Portland and then I will take a short stop in Pheonix - Actually I will be in Pheonix for half a day - seeing a job site for a customer... At least that is what I have as a schedule. But then again, things change and I may not even go there and fly somewhere else... I really want to come to ISC this year not to see new products and all the hype and BS... rather to hook up with you guys and have a broosky... Levon -
Herm, you think he can do it?? Let me check to see what we have hapening in your area in that time line... Let put him to test and see if he can pull it off Do you know anyone in Texas and specially in San Antonio area? Levon

Looking for install groups in San Antonio Texas. It involves simple 4 camera and 16 camera package installs along with PTZ (American Dynamics and Bosch), Fixed cameras and DVRs (Sanyo, American Dynamics, Bosch, etc). Have 18 installs in and around San Antonio. More on the way (we just signed up with major retailer that has a heavy presence in Texas). Have few dealers that we work with, but all of them are busy at the moment. Need to be knowledgeable on various manufacturer equipment stated above... Any interest, please PM... Levon

Adding hard drives is a snap for this recorder and it is a plug and play.... Rory is correct, the version of the firmware will dictate recognition of how much hard drive you can add... Also, these hard drives do not have to be formated or partitioned because the firmware will take care of it for you (THIS IS SIMILAR TO SANYO EMBEDDED SYSTEMS) - Excellent observation Rory... As for the type of hard drives, make sure you are using ATA hard drives. They initially were using Maxtor and had serious problems with that manufacturer (this problem existed with American Dynamics and others as well). Then all of them switched between Seagate and Western Digital over a year ago... Since the change to these new hard drive manufacturers, no problems have been reported.. Pricing between 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM hard drives is not much. We normally buy a box of (20) and it is few dollars cheaper... Levon

Nope, I do not say that nor intended... It does not make a difference to me. You can get it from so many different channels and then Rory will help... There are many good suppliers in the market and everyone has choices. Besides, you do not have to go too far find someone to give you a support - THIS FORUM MEMBERS WILL BE THERE FOR YOU TO HELP! - Rory including Levon

Video Splitter for (2) cameras

Guys, lets stick with the original question. I am not looking for an explanation on how it works or connection using external sync, etc. I know differences between digital and analog video splitters and also know that there are other ways to accomplish this... I just want to know if there are other suppliers that you know that carry simple video splitter for 2 cameras - you connect 2 cameras to the splitter and it splits the screen to 2 on the monitor and you can view both cameras 100% without loosing the pictures... Za, I am familiar of this package... In the nutshell, it is crap... I even know who is actually producing it for Sam's Club and that manufacturer's product line is garbage... Sam's Club is selling something and they are not sure what they are selling. I had customers who bought this package and guess what, within 30 days, they all returned it... Generally, you get what you pay for... However, Rory may be able to help... using PC based DVR card system! Levon -
Herm, we do have quite of few that do come up... I should introduce you with field service manager, who uses several in that area.... and I am not kidding... Levon

Guys, I think our friend in Australia is on to something very interesting. Not sure if we can get together and accomplish what PSA does, how about sharing our presence throughout to help each other on labor and installations?? Here is what I am thinking. Everyone has their own agenda in their respective businesses. However, if you have an opportunity to sell equipment outside of your geographical area, then we all can get together and do the job... We already are utilizing a fairly large group of dealers and integrators throughout the country. Basically, we can get a contract for a nationwide roll out, i.e. major chain stores, department stores, military or government jobs and instead of having our people to fly all over the place and incur major expenses, we rather work with the local group in those areas. What do you think?? I know I am a game! After all, I think our friend in Australia does come up with great ideas after few beers after all Cheers mate... Levon -
The product code is incorrect bud.... it is WV-CW374 Excellent design, but like all the Panasonic products, overpriced and with very little or non-existent support from manufacturer. You best bet is to choose a solid supplier who also has technical knowledge and expertise to give you the support.. Levon

Passive Baluns - VU - http://www.videobaluns.com/ - Have used them over 5 years with no problems. Both units include surge protectors and able to stretch 1,500' with no loss of video. Recently we tested their active baluns - excellent design. They should have these newer product available sometimes in September. Active Baluns and Active Hubs - American Fibertek - http://www.americanfibertek.com/products/av.htm - Great company and gives NVT serious run for their money. NVT is not what it use to be. Too much politics and they think they still rule, however there have been even more player in this field and coming up with newer products. Do not like their reps - serious attitude based on nothing!
