1. I've heard pepole refer to terminating and always thought it ment connecting the wires say at a control box power disconnect ect. What does terminate mean. 2. I've heard pepole talking about loss at a connection. Is there a way to decreese this loss. 3. If I ran say 100' of cat-5. I used 2 pairs and conneced two camera's. I have 4 pair plan to connect to future camera's and one pair just exta for what if. Should I connect these wires to boxes with some type of plug receptical ect. or just wait and soilder the wire together. Or is there a better way to connect Cat-5. Also ways to reconnect or splise a Cat-5 back together? Thanks, Gunrunner1

I need a little education on cat 5 and baluns
GunRunner1 posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I no very little to nothing about baluns or cat 5 use. I'm running the cables 150 ft. to my gaurage I will get power there? I have a pan tilt unit that needs 9 wires. Zoom lens: (zoom in zoom out, focus in focus out, power on of.) This should be 6 wires? I'll be using 6 24vac camera's This should be 12 wires. 6 camera should need 12 baluns? If I figure right I will need 27 wires? If cat 5 has 4 wires ea. I will need 7 runs. Is this right???? Thanks, -
I need a little education on cat 5 and baluns
GunRunner1 replied to GunRunner1's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
the 150 was supposed to be 150 foot from house to guarge. Reasons for using cat 5. 1. Allready have 3/4 of a spool. 2. the underground pipe I allready have is no large enough for rg-59 simese and my control cables. But should be large enough if I go with cat 5 cable. O.k. Thanks alot -
What type of coax to use? Comments on this Balun for Cat 5
GunRunner1 replied to GunRunner1's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
If I use Cat 5 cables with Baluns. For camera, til/pan unit, zoom lense. This will be attached to my garage 150' away from my DVR. Should I use Baluns that carry the 24vac. and runit from my house or Baluns that don't carry voltage and power them from my garage? (has a seperate AC power connection from power company. I'm tring to figure out the best way to do this. I haven't bought the rg cable and I'm running Cat 5 for the tilt/pan controls. So it will probaly be best to go Cat 5 on everything? Thanks, -

GunRunner1 posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I've got a V10Z-1618M 16-160mm 1:1.8 Computar motor zoom lens. I NEED HELP WIRING IT UP. It has 1 cable coming out the back with 7 wires. red, black, yellow, green, brown, white and shield. I have a 8-80mm but it has 2 cables 1 for the auto iris and the other for the zoom/focus controls. Does this lens not have auto iris? Can someone tell me how to wire it up or where I can find info on this? Thanks, -

Can i scan less than 16 camera's on a 16cn unit

I DON"T UNDERSTAND I'm still new to using GEO Vison -
I know I should of asked this first. but I didn't, now I'm having second thoughts. What do you think? I want to have 3 to 5 great systems. TPZ night vision. I'll tell you about system one for know. DVR/Computer: I bought this new, it came as one unit $600.00 it has 16cn. and is has GEO Vison software model GV-800. Camera: Sanyo VCB-3374, 24vac., 570 tvl., .01 lux, black and white box camera. (I think box camera's are the best but I could be wrong) Lens: Comutar model V10Z-1618M, 16-160mm, 1:1.8 I have to figure out wiring?( I also have Computar 6-60mm, 8-80mm, 12-120mm, lens) Pan-Tilt: Vicon model V353APTV Varible speed pan-tilt drive. Night vision: 2ea. 140 l.e.d. Infra red lights Pan-Tilt controller: generic 5 unit pan tilt controler. I'll have to figure ot the controler, and probaly run seperate switches for zoom. and figure out the wiring for the lens. All equipment is used, (except for the controler and the l.e.d. IR.) but it all works not sure about the 160mm lens. I have about $300.00 invested in this. less cables, wiring labor ect. I'm not consurned about the labor. Is any of these single items the wrong one's. or out dated? Is there a single unit that will do all I want for $300.00 or so. If there is what will it cost? TPZ and night vision is very important! ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Thanks alot, Gunrunner

I just got my DVR back from the shop. I hooked up 6 outdoor camera's and 2 out of the six the image on the screen shifts slightly to the left and back. Like something was rocking the camera back and forth. This is a constant movement seems like the top moves more than the bottom. Both camera's are 24vac black and white box type. One is a Panasonic and one is a Sanyo. the other four camera's don't shift at all. ????????? Thanks,

How can I tell a good lense? Who makes a good lense? Where can I buy a good lense? What should I pay for a good lense? Are any of the lenses on e-bay good? Do I need auto iris? Thanks,
