Review the trigger type selections in the event settings. Make sure it's only set for motion. If that's correct, monitor the motion detection settings and see if anything is continuously triggering the motion threshhold (i.e. image noise, flickering light, etc.). Then adjust the motion zone dimensions, zone sensitivity, and zone %.

I think you're on the right track. Don't cover areas that are not visible from a public place. Check your local and state codes and consult a lawyer if necessary. The issue you're more likely to have is people knocking on your door asking you for footage every time a crime is committed in the area.

What are the needs and characteristics for each area of coverage? e.g. resolution/pixel density (activity, identification, etc.), scene distance, scene dimension, lighting levels, speed of targets, etc. Decide on cameras, lenses, then work back through network, server, storage, and other requirements (with the budget limit hanging over it all like a dark cloud).

Here are some things that might help with that Arecont image... Use a good lens. Close iris for good depth of focus. Iris looks too open for that shot. Open iris full, focus on mid scene, then close for depth. As wireguys posted above, ROI in AV100 is useful. Opening triple ROI (near, mid, far) makes iris adjustment for depth of focus easy. Maximize sharpness setting on the cam. Areconts have soft images at default, and maxing the sharpness doesn't introduce much or any noise. If the AE is biasing wrong for the scene, and lighting condition is consistent, turn off AE and use brightness and gamma cam settings.

Check the mobo caps for bulging before deciding to dump any more money into the PC. I've seen lots of PCs die with bad caps; random BSODs and shutdowns under load are symptoms. If the caps look good, blow out the dust, and monitor temps. If still having probs, swap in a known good PSU.

Not sure if it'll help in your case, but there's a 50 Hz / 60 Hz setting in the cam you might check. Matching the power frequency fixes flicker under some artificial lighting.

+1. Outdoor Optex PIRs have netted six arrests thus far. I have one Optex that can detect someone coming at 100 meters. I know to check my cameras before they are even in camera range. They work day or night, rain or shine. Best, Christopher Yep, Optex outdoor sensors + cameras are a great combo for punk vandals that sneak around neighborhoods at night. Make an example out of a few punks and word gets around too. About 6 months ago we caught some teens egging; they did enough damage (ruined paint on some cars) to get charged with felony vandalism; no fun for them and their parents.

If the threat is only coming from the road, prioritize the budget to get a camera set up that can get usable evidence at that kill zone (instead of spreading the budget to less likely ingress paths). If they're doing drivebys from within a vehicle you'll probably need to catch lic. plates (unless they're locals and you know the vehicle), and consistently getting a plate shot at night at distance with no choke point and no controlled lighting can be challenging. There are existing threads on this forum discussing lic. plate set ups.

Try setting your pc to a static lan ip address connect the camera to the pc with a crossover cable, run AV100.

If the incidents are happening when you are home (i.e. night) and the punks are entering properties to vandalize, outdoor motion detectors might be a better investment. Optex makes some good wireless outdoor motion detector kits.

If there is sufficient cable length remaining from the camera, get a weatherproof connector and re-terminate it. VPI (Video Products Inc) has a good selection of IP67 rated network connectors.

Reducing the interval between events is probably the only way to get what you want, but in multiple clips.

Unscrew the lens cover/shade. Pull off the rubber IR shield. Focus the lens; it's just a board lens that screws in/out. Reassemble.

I have one of the 4" Arecont dome enclosures. They are very well made/solid. The mounting design requires that the camera be same height as an Arecont box cam. There are two plates that attach on the top and bottom of the camera, and the plates ride within a black plastic sphere that provides 2-way axis (the plates riding in sphere provide 3rd axis). If the camera is shorter in height than an Arecont camera, one could possible shim the top and bottom of the camera to correct height. The camera must also be same length or shorter than a standard size Arecont box cam, or there won't be ample clearance for lens. Same goes for width of camera. It's best suited for the Arecont compact box cams; if using a standard size Arecont box cam, a very short lens (like the old Arecont fixed focal/iris lenses) must be used.

Tried lately,tried few years back sorry no way no user friendly CPU usage high not stable and so on... I have to admitted after Avigilon soft I have problem to like any other software ( I had free lic for unlimited Luxriot soft to play) The 1.8.x versions have been 24x7 stable for me (have some servers running Pro and Advanced). Server side cpu usage is low, client side is high, but not a prob if using at least dual core AMD or Intel. I find interface is easy to use, but I've been using it for awhile. Usable alternative to more expensive Milestone, Exacq if sw cost matters to customer.

Try running the Sanyos with Luxriot. Luxriot has functional shareware edition that will record 1 camera. I'm testing HD2500 and HD2300 with Luxriot 1.8.3 with good results. I had to experiment with different levels of firmware on the HD2300 though... it needed a specific level of firmware (2/9/11, which is not the latest) to fix h.264 streaming over RTSP. Saw this happen with two HD2300s I tested. Latest level of firmware (4/13/11) appears to have reintroduced issue with h.264 streaming over RTSP when running max resolution, max quality, max fps. The RTSP issue happens when using Sanyo h.62 browser plugin too.

I'm testing 2300 and 2500 now, very nice cams. Sanyo just had a price drop too. I was at my distributors place yesterday, and looks like availability of some models are affected by the earthquake in Japan.

I'm testing a Sanyo VCC-HD2500; it does get fairly hot. At room temp 70 F, the hottest point on metal chassis is 109 F measured with a Fluke thermocouple. Chassis temp feels about the same as some of the Arecont h.264 box cams though...

Good point, and to add to this, WD Blacks (up to "late" 2009) could have TLER enabled to make them work more reliably in arrays. The newer (post-2009) WD Blacks supposedly can't have TLER enabled. Haven't tried it myself, since I don't run my WD Blacks in arrays (I run the WD REs in arrays).

If the camera has a button to reset to defaults, try that, then run the install wizard again. IP address on the cam might be set to something the wizard isn't setup to find... good luck.

I've tested these with high hopes, and they stutter/gap footage. Replaced 'em all with Western Digital Blacks, no stutter/gapping.

Well I was just trying this but it would only show me the drive with the OS... Tomorrow will move everything to C drive and see how it does. Need to sign off for tonight. Any drive with read or write activity will show up under the Disk Activity section when activity occurs.
