# of cameras and limit writing to 1 hard drive continuously?
skane replied to mike_va's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
For example I see it peaking at 5MB/s with 3 cameras at 640x480 on the mac mini. This is what got me to thinking that might be the limitation with the W7 rig, once I add in 4x at 1.3MP and the rest of the cameras maybe this works out to being close to the limit? Not sure how to do this on windows yet but will poke around. On Windows 7, you can use builtin resource monitor app. Leave the monitor window on top while you are browsing archives. -
# of cameras and limit writing to 1 hard drive continuously?

+1. I only use Western Digital Blacks, or REs. Got stuttering with others (Seagates including the ES series, WD greens, WD AVs). I leave ~ 15% headroom on the allocations too, if the drive gets too full, things can really slow down. The HD controller (on mobo and add-on card controllers) can matter too... -
IP megapix solution for Bar/restaurant low light?
skane replied to destro_23's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Find a distributor or online retailer with a reasonable restock fee, buy the cams you want to test, return the ones that don't meet your requirements and pay the restock. +1. -
Have some insurance/liability questions regarding owning/running a surveillance system install business. Appreciate any feedback... What type of liability situations does your business insurance cover? Have you seen/experienced a situation where a customer sues a surveillance camera installer for damages/loss because a surveillance camera system fails to provide usable evidence? How do you best protect your business from possible liability situations? What company/carrier do you use for business insurance in the USA? This post probably should go into the "running a security business" section but I do not have access to that section. Thanks for any insight.

Surveillance system business, liability/insurance question
skane replied to skane's topic in Security Cameras
Thanks for the info and link. I was shopping for insurance and the agent raised the liability question about performance, which I thought could be covered by other means like disclaimer and/or contract. -

The 2825 just looks like a 2805 in a bullet chassis with IR. -
Arecont AV1305DN question

Check out this old post... discussion is about 1300 vs 3130 though, but might apply to 1305 and 3135. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=9778&start=10 -
Anyone here use laser range meters for distance measurements to do site assessments? What brands / models do you use? Checked out Bosch, Leica, Hilti... leaning toward a Hilti now. Thanks

Thanks, after more researching, looks like like the Leica's have an edge if it needs to be used outdoors in sunlight.

Arecont Vision cameras - is it possible at all ?
skane replied to Maniek's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I've had good results using 2/3" format Computar lenses on AV3130s, AV3135s, and AV3105DNs (possibly because of the larger "sweet spot"). At the cert. class I attended, they mentioned they use 16mm and 25mm Computar lenses for the sample images. But I just RMA'd a 3135 that I believe had a misaligned sensor (also had probs with h.264 mode image corruption). Another irritating thing I noticed with some Areconts is dust on the sensor. It can't be easily blown off 'cause the dust is on the sensor behind the ir cut plate. Looks like a semi-transparent artifact on high f-stop or dark scenes... like an amoeba or jellyfish, lol. -
In California, these types of contractors can be used for the physical install C-7 - Low Voltage Systems Contractor C10 - Electrical Contractor Refer to CA Contractors State License Board site for more info. hth

The Mxx14-MP "Arecont Vision" lenses at that site are Computar lenses, at a higher price. -
IR Lense for 2/3 megapixel camara
skane replied to kgordeev's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Computar makes 2/3" format megapix lenses, but they're not ir corrected and they're c mount, so you'll need spacer ring for the cs mount cam you're referencing. -
I only need a single IP cam. What should I do?
skane replied to sequoia's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
AV3130 is mjpeg only. AV3135 supports mjpeg and h.264. Check out youtube, Arecont site, and search this forum for mobotix and 313x samples. Best way to truly compare though, is buy them and test yourself. Maybe find a source that has reasonable restock fees... -

Set up an Optex or Dakota outdoor wireless motion detector system and catch them in the act. That's what we use on our street for dirtbag car burglars. Already caught a few too... If you're set on the camera option for car burglars, consider an Arecont AV3130 or AV3135, ir illuminator, and single camera license for NVR SW of your choice. The Arecont 3130/3135 has good low light peformance and small size will fit into a birdhouse... just make sure to weatherproof well. -
email notification that actually works
skane replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I've been using email-on-motion alerts (with snapshot attachments) from Messoa NIC836 and Vivotek IP8332, IP8151, and FD8134 cameras for awhile. Sending via SMTP, to POP3 and gmail ids. Using Droid X to receive alerts. -
New User, I Need Help!!
skane replied to Ynot713's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
PC running Windows XP or Vista, 32 or 64 bit. Probably will run on Win7 too. The documentation for the ST7501 SW has system requirements; check it out. -

skane replied to Ynot713's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
If you're planning on running all Vivotek cameras, give the ST7501 (?) software that came with the cameras a try on a PC with Windows OS. From the requirements you included, it should be adequate for your setup. For access from the iPhone, you can either access the cameras by port-forwarding the individual cams in your router, or interface with the ST7501 SW by port-forwarding to the PC running it. Most all this information should be included in the documentation that came with the cameras and documentation for your router. -
AV8365dnhb with av100 or Nuuo mini?
skane replied to cjdee's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
AV100 software is primarily used for set up and configuration of the camera. For monitoring, recording, analytics, use NVR SW of your choice that supports the camera instead. -
Open the archive on the desired camera and do ctrl+back arrow. That's the earliest footage that exists. If it post-dates the date you needed, the video does not exist. To confirm that manually, you can check the luxriot archive folder and look at the footage file date/time stamps.

Where did you get these units from? Direct from Arecont, distributor, retailer?

newb to forum***need advice on system selection
skane replied to gravityBad's topic in System Design
+1 on the Optex RCTD10U. When you're home, outdoor motion detection is the way to catch dirtbags in the act. My neighbors and I use the Optex units to cover our yards and the sidewalks at night. -

The youtube hits I found for the vitor are these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwZvzlKq4Zw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glBCggCoWBU thought they were pretty good. As for the Secunext, I don't have footage, only saw it at my suppliers office. Thanks for the correction on the sensor type. -

More interesting ip cams using the Sony EXview HAD CCD (like the Basler)... Do a google search on "vitor VT-715ME". There is sample footage on youtube. This camera also looks like it's offered under the Secunext brand, and some other company I saw mentioned in one of the posts on this forum. I checked out the Secunext product at my suppliers office and the day/night image quality was impressive.
