Arecont's at night and under IR illumination
skane replied to zmxtech's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
These Computar/Ganz lenses > 12mm work great with the 3130, and should work with the 3135 as well. M1614-MP 16mm M2514-MP 25mm M5018-MP 50mm They are 2/3" format which provides nice sweet spot over the 1/2" Arecont sensor. Physical dimensions of these lenses provide ample clearance on the 313x. -
I don't use the bead, or the foam... just makes the dome more cramped. I also use a right angle connector for the network port to avoid sharp bends in the cable within the dome. Right-angle crimp-on RJ45s?? That would be handy! Never seen that! Hey, here's another one for the rant list: the position of the network jack on these 3155s makes it unnecessarily difficult for anyone with even marginally thick fingers to unplug the cable, the gap between the locking tab and the housing is so narrow. How hard would it have been to rotate the thing 90 degrees?? I'd hate to try it with a patch cable with the rubber shroud over the tab. This whole product line looks like a classic case of engineers slapping things together with no clue as to actually USING the product. Yep, the dome casing is cramped... I just use needle nose pliers or gently disengage the tab with a screwdriver blade and pull. Google "cat 5 right angle"... I use a short cable with a right angle plug on the end to do a one-time connection in the case, run the cable out the hole, and attach to a shielded female cat 5 jack or a female/female coupler. Arecont should have made these domes just a little bigger to ease installation/adjustments/maintenance, and also allow longer lenses to be used in them.

Two form factors for AV3130?
skane replied to cglaeser's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Current AV3130 has "short" casing, as pictured on Arecont's site. As far as I know, the model number never changed. -
The images are from Arecont I didn't take them. They are using a 25mm lens but I don't know which one it is on there list. No motion blur when setup right. If it's Arecont footage, 25mm on a 3130, the lens is likely a Computar M2514-MP. The Mxx14-MP series lenses work great on these cameras. Also, the m2514-mp is 2/3", so with the 1/2" sensor, there is a nice sweet spot/minimal edge distortion.

Cisco/Linksys SRW2008MP
skane replied to dopalgangr's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I've seen two of those units fail within a year.... possibly caused by bad power supplies. Linksys RMA process was good though. Replacement units had different power supplies. They have a loud fan. Web interface is slow. -
frame rate arecont Vision 3105
skane replied to rak313's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
As posted earlier by "Roman", if you are using LR 1.7.1.x, try using TFTP instead of HTTP. I can confirm that using HTTP protocol in LR 1.7.1.x does up to 20 fps on the AV3130 night sensor @ full res, and TFTP (used in LR 1.6.x) does up to 32 fps in full res. Contact LuxRiot support for info on enabling TFTP option in LR 1.7.1... it's just a matter of adding one registry key value and re-doing the definition of the camera using TFTP. -

Arecont will be releasing a h.264 version of the AV3130 (AV3135), you may want to wait for that. The last expected release date I got for the AV3135 was “some time this month†-

LuxRiot does not have control over all Arecont camera settings (i.e. all available resolutions); some of the camera settings must be configured and saved using Arecont AV100 SW. Try this 1) Use the AV100 software to configure the camera settings, then "save to flash" in AV100. 2) Close AV100 sw. 3) Power off/on the camera (i.e. bounce the switch). 4) Start LuxRiot server. Notes -- I have noticed that after LR server restarts, the frame size is significantly increased (and fps decreased) if the cameras are not powered off/on as well. -- LR 1.7.x is still "quirky". I'm just running it on a test server now. Still using LR 1.6.12 or 1.6.14 in "production". Yes I get up to 32 fps @ 1280x1024 with the AV3130's in "good" lighting using balanced mode. The AV3105 should do the same in night mode with res decreased to 1280x1024, in mjpeg or h.264. -

Are you using h.264 or mjpeg mode on the AV3105? What frame size is being reported in LuxRiot? I'm running two AV3130's on a FS108P right now and get 12 - 13 fps @ 2048x1536 recording max quality in LuxRiot. Maybe that switch you have is not 100% as Soundy indicated. -

IP surveillance system - camera choice? AV5105DN
skane replied to rwbaker's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'm no pro, but have spent lots of time with Arecont cams. I run 8 AV3130s and a AV3155DN on my home at the moment. Been using 3130's for almost 2 years now. I love them. I tried a AV5155DN (h.264, D/N, same as the 5105DN but built in a dome w/a mediocre 4mm-10mm f1.6 lens included) for a week. I returned the AV5155 and swapped it for another AV3130. Low light sensitivity of the AV5155DN is significantly less than the AV3130, and slightly less than the AV3155DN. FWIW, I never did test the AV5155D with a better lens, but I doubt it would have made enough difference for me to keep it instead of swapping for another AV3130, because low light performance is a priority for the locations these cams are used. If I were in your position now, I'd buy one AV3130 and fit it with Computar Mxx14-MP series lenses. You'll likely be very happy with it. Then find a place with a good return/swap policy and try the AV5105DN with a good low f-stop lens... but you'll likely end up with two AV3130s in the end if low light performance is important for both locations/applications. Hope this helps... Sorry for my rough non-descript non-pro comparisons.. If you're set on megapixel cams though, it's hard to go wrong with an AV3130. Arecont cameras come with SW, but you'll need to purchase a license to enable recording (you can just configure and view w/out the license). Check out LuxRiot or Milestone... I use LuxRiot. Hope this helps, have fun ! -
POE what do you guys use?
skane replied to Media's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
-- LinkSys SRW2008MP -- Very loud. I've had two of these switches fail; but LinkSys support was good in replacing both units. -- Netgear FS108P -- SMC SMCGS8P - Quiet, 8-port, Gbit. -
Arecont AV1300 - DN or AI version? +about lense format
skane replied to robert's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Depending on your sources, you can get an AV3130 for just $100 more than the AI and DN AV1300 models. I noticed prices just dropped on the AV3130... maybe due to release of all the h.264 models. 2/3 lens works on 1/2 -

Mega pixel system
skane replied to deserteaglexxx's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I've been satisfied with the following gear to cover my property... -- (6) Arecont AV3130's with Computar/Ganz fixed focal length lenses (variety of 8mm, 12mm, 16mm, 25mm), CAT6 cabling, Panavise mounts, Videolarm and Arecont domes. -- Linksys SRW2008MP Gbit PoE switch powering the cameras and hooked into Gbit home LAN -- (2) PC camera servers (each can easily serve all 6 cameras, but I keep two for redundancy) Q6600 cpu, 2GB RAM, Abit IP35 mobo, PC P&C 750W PSU, Promise SATA controller cards, SATA HD backplanes, 7 TB of HD storage, WinXP Pro, LuxRiot software. Will probably add a Stardot or Arecont 5MP camera to the mix in the future. -
Thanks for the feedback, I'll probably just get a FS108P instead of messing with an injector and a non-PoE Gbit switch... don't need a Gbit switch for this coverage.
-
Are there any reliable PoE injectors under $100? Need a couple for some cameras that are too far away from my PoE Gb switch, but in reach of a non-PoE switch. TIA

lux-riot dvr help needed

Check the HD allocation setting for recording (server - recording properties). Is the 450GB approx = to the % allocated on the HD? Sounds like the drive is "full" per the current allocation setting, and old footage is being written over. -

Mega pix IP cameras for exterior home coverage
skane posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hi, would appreciate any feedback and recommendations on these requirements and situation... Camera Requirements • High resolution day/night cameras to cover 3 exterior sides of a 2-story, residential home. Need video quality good enough to recognize faces within 20 feet of camera. • Exterior of house is lighted with motion floodlights and some street light peripheral. • View of cameras must be wide enough to at least cover a tract home driveway. I’ll be mounting the cameras ~ 10 feet from ground level. I already have: • Home is already wired with Gigabit Lan. I can expand wiring to any place in the house. I also have wireless AP, 802.11 a/b/g. • AC outlets are available where I would likely mount the cameras. I could also procure a switch with PoE. • Multiple high end workstations (Core 2 Duo and Quads, 2GB RAM) with Terabyte capacity. I can dedicate one or two workstations for 24x7 coverage for this application. Would appreciate any advice on: • Cameras – I am seriously considering Arecont cameras. Suggestions on any other competing brands/models appreciated. • Software – Luxriot, any others? • Any other hardware that may be needed • Budget is flexible, but I would like to keep total cost of camera’s, software, and any other HW (e.g. camera housings) below $4,000 if possible. Thanks for any help -
Power supply for Videolarm RHW7CF2 dome heater/blower?
skane posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hi, I need to set up an Arecont AV3130 in a vandal resistant dome. The AV3130 will be powered with PoE. For the dome I'm looking at the Videolarm RHW7CF2 with the heater/blower. Power requirement for the heater/blower is 24 VAC, 52 watts. Will the Altronix DVT1 (24/28 VAC, 3.3/2.8 amp) be a good power supply for the heater/blower in the dome? Any other recommendation for the heater/blower power supply? Thanks for any feedback! -

+1 on motion sensors and a silent alarm and showing up to confront the people doing this. Check out the Optex 1000 series wireless sensor and receiver... it's a nice portable kit that might work well for this situation. -
I've been using a laptop hooked into network with a WAP. Other option is to use crossover cable and laptop. The res on my laptop is only 1440x900 but it suffices... a 1920+ res screen would be nice : ). To fine-tune focus with the Arecont, I software-zoom in to an area in the desired engagement distance, with good edge detail, then "top off" the focus.
