  1. I got some advice to opt for a turret camera instead of the dome near the garage, so I will look into that. Here is a quote I got via a friend who can buy from an authorized Hikvision dealer in the USA 1 HX-N7716P2T 16CH/NVR/POE/HDMI/100MBPS/2TB 787.99 787.99 6 HX-OD32V 3MP/VANDM/IR/3-12M/-30C/IP66 303.99 1823.94 4 HX-BL32V 3MP/BULET/IR/2.8-12M/IP66/-30C 303.99 1215.96 Any thoughts on the equipment and pricing on this system please? 2. Hello friends, I am in the Houston, TX area. I hope everyone is doing well. I want to buy a 16 channel system with a NVR for residential use. I believe I should get at least 2MP. I would like to have night vision and also the ability to view the camera on my smart phone. This is for home use, I will put about 6 cameras around the home, including the garage, one in the stable, and two in the main gate. I plan to use dome cameras around the home and in the stable, and two bullet cameras in the main gate. I want to buy a 16 channel system in case I need to expand the number of cameras later on. I have read that Hikvision and Dahua are good options, can anyone recommend good models for the camera and NVR? I have a friend who has a license to buy hardware from dealers like ADI, so, I can use his help to get the hardware if needed, or through vendors on here. I really appreciate your help. Thank you so much, Oxonian
  3. Hello friends, I hope you are doing well. I put a rather complicated post in the system design section, so I am going to void that and ask a much simpler question here. I am located in the Houston, TX area (USA) and need suggestions for a security camera for residential use. I am a newbie, and have spent many hours reading this wonderful forum, but I still need help. I am leaning towards the two popular brands - Hikvision or Dahau or a comparable brand. My needs are: 1) Cameras around the house, with night vision and motion detection - preferably with a minimum weight setting, e.g. 75lbs to trigger the recording 2) If possible, I would like to be able to view the stream remotely 3) I have an entry gate that is 250 ft away from the house, it does not have an electric connection 4) Good quality and something that is hard to tamper with I am fine with either an IP camera, or a NVR? Sorry, I am not getting the terminology correct. Is there any way I can put a camera there as well? If not, please at least suggest a good setup for the home I really appreciate your advice, this is for my senior citizen parents. Thank you, Oxonian
  4. Hello friends, I hope everyone is doing well, this is a great forum. I know this is my first post, but I need some help. I promise to reciprocate shortly. I recently purchased an home with acreage in the Houston, TX area. My parents will be the primary residents, as I need to relocate internationally for construction work. The distance between the house and the main gate, which is just a short 4ft gate, is 250ft. There is also about 9 acres of land around the house, in which some sections have thick vegetation, trees, etc. The area does get pretty dark at night. The entire property is in a rectangular plot of land. Can someone please suggest a setup for: 1) Monitoring the gate, I would like to be able to see outside the gate, especially at dark. 2) Monitoring the house 3) Monitoring around the house, e.g. the backyard connected to the house 4) Monitoring the stable - which is about 250ft to the left of the house 5) Does anyone have suggestions on motion sensors? 6) Any recommendation on where to buy the hardware? 7) Any recommendation on an installer in the Houston area? If possible, is there any way to monitor a wider view of the acreage, so we know if there is any threat in the proximity of the house? I would like a good to excellent system, I have read about the two popular brands on here. Can anyone please help me? I am willing to donate to a charity or to the upkeep of this site, in return for my urgent request, and lack of contribution to the forum thus far. Thank you so much, Oxonian
  5. Thank you mattaggie. I am looking to educate myself on the various options, before I reach out to a security company, so I can be well informed when purchasing. I appreciate your reply though, I was hoping someone would reply! Oxonian
