Issues with DVR HDD, stopped working, sees HDD, no space tho
ayjay2016 posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
I have this Xvim 4ch DVR installed into my house. It worked for 8 months without flaw. It was a really good deal and system. However, i one day noticed that the playback was not working and there was no recorded info in the system. I have a WD 2TB Purple HDD installed. I went to the HDD Management area, the system shows the HDD there, 0.0kb available and the same for used. When i press the Format it depresses the button on screen. nothing happens. I have reset the device, done everything. The HDD shows and works perfectly in my PC. I did return the HDD to the DVR no-formatted. Tried other known good HDD's. Still nothing. I did also notice the remote web view interface that at one point still did work does not work anymore. The site comes up, can navigate through like before. But instead of the video stream i get a black box with a smaller black box in the top left corner with a x in it. Is it the DVR Board? Because the system works like normal just for that one issue. Firmware maybe? -
I installed 4 cameras around my house. They are 780p outdoor bullet cameras. They have great picture. However, I did notice that during night vision. It shows to have a somewhat transparent fuzzy static. Like the static you see when you unplug your cable from your TV. During daytime, it isn't as apparent. But if I look closely I can see the static still. So my question is, can this be the wires that came with the units? I have to say they are thin wires. its the Camera wires with the video and power in 1 cable. Is this interference with each other or possibly the power cables running though my attic? And would buying thicker gauge cables with more insulation resolve this problem? Thanks!

In my experience. Analog is better for redundancy and reliability. Giving you purchase quality cables and the correct gauge for your situation. Thicker cables that pass by power (hot) cables in your home to reduce interference. Digital cameras are good. But mostly rely on wireless communications. They are great for convienece. But when you take into consideration the inner workings of wireless data transfer. There is more room for error. As in does the area have good wireless reception. Can anything moble obstruct that reception. Ive had issues with playback from digital cameras in the form of missing frames. Which in the worse case scenario can make or break identifying a key feature of say a person or car or object. If i were you. Analog cannot go wrong. It's a much longer and planned out installation. But very worth the time and efffort for the end result. Hope this helps

Newbie help for DVR software, computer literate

The manual that came with it is pretty much useless, it shows a manual for a 16 channel DVR which mine is not. Cannot find the company website either. Don't get me wrong. The cameras and DVR for the price is not bad at all. http://www.amazon.com/XVIM-Detection-Surveillance-Security-Included/dp/B01174BGP0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1459292254&sr=8-1&keywords=xvim+4ch+720p+hdmi The DVR shows to have an FTP server option so I will try with that. I just don't have a lot of time to dedicate so I need to know the options before I start. But your reply is all I need to go off. thanks! -
Newbie help for DVR software, computer literate

I am very new to the CCTV environment but not the computer world. But i did have a good question i cannot wrap around. My DVR did not come with the software that is said to come with every DVR. I have searched for some but they all seem to be proprietary. So are they all propriety? I have an Xvim brand DVR. I want to have my recorded CCTV transfer from my DVR 2TB HDD to my LAN network server RAID file storage. This will go on to play scan the video files with object recognition software. Do i need a special proprietary software for my DVR system or is there a generic way to do this? (ALL my computer and software knowledge is self taught and no schooling)
