Two wireless SVC3 cams were working fine. Got a new dual-band router from ATT with the fiber install. First cam responded well with SVC3 client and I joined the new SSID with no problem 2nd cam seems fine with SVC3 client except it always fails to connect to the same SSID. I tried choosing the SSID from the list and tried manual entry. Cam connects fine with LAN cable, just not WiFi Both are set to the 2.4Ghz band and I tried the 5Ghz band Any clues?

Want to mount a WI-Fi camera on front porch to cover entry door and porch. Only power out there is a 110v porch light. Thought about: Mounting the power supply in the can behind the fixture but it's too shallow and probably not safe. Maybe a small waterproof box wall mounted next to the fixture and place the PS in it, using a short romex line from the fixture? Don't like the extra visibility though. Cut a hole in the wood siding and install the box inside the wall, line to fixture can, and use a waterproof cover? Sounds best but more work. Is there a Wi-Fi cam that uses 110v, no PS? Doubtful. Solar?? Whatdyathink?

Gotta ask how it works? I could see if it looked for IR illuminators, but they aren't that common. Does it just look for an IR reflection from the CCD chip in the cam?

Thanks, but I'm not really looking for an installer. They don't have a physical presence here and I wondered how they do installs. I suppose they just sub it to a local installer? Looking for some feedback on the company itself since they are looking for salesmen.

Don't know nothing about the Verizon FIOS, but I suspect it "might" be similar to ATT's Uverse????? Anyone know for sure? With Uverse, all the lines, both coax and TP, are carrying Ethernet packets, not video. Programming enters the house at the Residential Gateway and is sent via TCP/IP to the set top boxes. The DVR is in the main box, and the other boxes get the DVR programs using a stream from the main box. My wife has somehow turned the back yard into a feeding zoo and now wants video of the critters. (I think I married Ellie Mae Clampet) She especially want to see the deer that only come in at night, but also the birds and squirrels during the day. Anys recs on weather to go B&W low light or infrared with an illuminator? Will the IR look OK during the daylight? Distance from camera mount to animals will be 15 to 20 feet. I have a PC input card that I will set for record on motion so I guess I just want straight RCA or BNC connectors?? Thanks!

I bought some el-cheapo card off Ebay and fed my camcorder into it for a test. The $10 card actually works and I can see the image, but the included software is pure crap. Almost all characters appear as question marks and thus it's pretty much useless. It appears to be a Star ImaVision PCI card. It came with software called Peak(???) can't seem to find anything that works with it. Tried PICO2000 but it locks up XP when started. haven't seen anything lock XP up that soldid in quite a while. Ya get what ya pay for. Any ideas out there???

Check with your ISP. Many stopped using the standard SMTP port 25 to foil relay spammers.

I want to put together a lease package to present to CCTV installers and help them sell more to their customers. Before I approach them, could some of you help me with a basic sale price for the install of 4 non-PTZ cameras, a DVR (probably with Internet viewing), a public LCD with a quad display, and an office monitor? I know its tough to ballpark when so many variables have to be considered, but I just need a starting figure for let's say a small 7/11 type convenience store with open wiring or drop ceiling, and using, for lack of a better phrase, upper-middle class equipment. Sorry if it seems vague, but I just need to crunch some numbers. Thanks!

Thanks guys! I'll use $5,000 and they can adjust up or down from there. I'm thinking that some dealers might want to price a job on payment more than cost. After giving a price quote for the job, then they could use something like $130 per month for 60 months.

When I was a cop, I got a call to a local AMOCO gas station. Two of the four bullet cameras had been stolen. Both were mounted on basic wall mounts about 7' off the ground....very easy to reach. Of course the 8 hour time-lapse VCR had recorded nothing but snow, since they never did any maintenance or checked it. Maybe just stash it away and put an old broken VCR in plain view with a couple of cables hanging on it?

Saw an ad in a security magazine for a company called Eyesthere. http://www.eyesthere.com/ They are franchising the industry and they will be happy to take $187,000 (I think) and they will set you up in the security business. Seems rather high for someone that aready works in the business, but I suspect some related businesses might find it an easy entry into CCTV if they want to be an absentee owner.

My brother wants to set up a video camera in a builders model home and use it to stream on their web site so potential customers can catch a glimpse of the home. I'm looking for suggestions for a camera with the following needs: Color.....Good to really good quality. 70 degree view Self contained web server and 811.g wireless, wiring would be a pain due to the ceiling design and desired location. Trigger on motion would be nice but not required. I've seen a couple in the $200 price range, but I'm afraid they're little more than toys. Any suggestions? (Rory, did you ever make it to America?)

Now I need to figure out how to get it into a web page without forcing users to install the ActiveX control. Just wondering if you ever need to defrag the hard drive in a DVR? My PC clogs up after a while and I'm curious about the condidtion of a video HD. That constant writing and re-writing surely must make a mess?

Got a pretty basic question I think: Do multi-channel DVR's record multiple streams of video, or just one that is multiplexed? Such as, does a 4 channel DVR record 4 channels of video, so you can look at just a single, full size image during playback? Thanks!

Anyone have any recs for covert wireless cameras, such as clocks, smoke alarms, etc. Since they won't be permanent, what type would be best since running a power supply would be awkward? Subjects would be cashiers, stock rooms, back doors...... The whole rig would need to be portable to allow fast deployment and knockdown. Customer wants cameras installed after hours and possibly relocated to another position and/or store. I don't suppose any DVR's have a receivers built in for the covert cameras? Most setups would be a single camera only, 2 or 3 on rare occasions. Any vendor recs also appreciated. Thanks for any info! Gene

I did see a working clock radio that plugs in, so I guess that might be a good option, except it limits placement for a good POV. Also saw an EXIT sign, so that wouldn't look too bad with a cord running from it. I like your big battery suggestion. It could be hidden on top of a ceiling tile and feed through the tile. Thanks!
