    Help with a looping dvr

Is there anybody in the northeast PA area that may want to give this dvr a look? Or I can ship it to you if you think you can fix it. thanks
  3. I bought a used dvr1615ncd (says avtech 787 on board). It beeps upon startup and produces no video output on either vga or bnc main outputs. The red led on the mainboard blinks steady as it should for about 2 minutes then it gives one long beep, shuts down and then restarts and continues this process in a loop. Here is what I have tried: tried a hard reset with no luck. Tried another hard drive (that came out of an identical model). Tested voltages from external power supply and at the hd and they're good. No bulging capacitors. Is there a way to load the firmware on a nonbooting dvr or is there somewhere to ship it to that can do this? I would really appreciate some assistance. Or if anyone can recommend someone that can possibly try to force the firmware onto the chip. Thanks
  4. Had to hard reset my dvr. In video server e software, whenever I change the admin password and hit apply, it will not let me login to the software again with the new password, default password or no matter what I try. The only way to fix this is to do another hard reset on the main board and default it back to admin. This was a problem when I first bought the dvr about 5 years ago. I had to send it back so scdlink can repair it. Now nobody remembers what the fix was. I remember they had me do a firmware update when it initially happened years ago and it crashed. That's when they had me send it back and they returned it fixed. I assume a firmware update would fix it but it is obviously out of warranty and I don't want to brick it. Can anyone chime in that may have a resolution? It's driving me nuts. Thanks
  5. For the benefit of others that may have the same problem, I fixed the problem. First I disabled avg. Then I installed video server e ver 1.0.6.9 to replace ver 1.0.6.6 and I can now change the password with no problem. Just disabling avg may work but I did both so I don't know which one was the fix.

    Help with a looping dvr

Thanks for your reply. Yes it was bricked when I got it and yes I got it for next to nothing. Where is the best place to contact avtech in the usa? I purchased this identical model over 5 years ago from scd but when I called them they didn't seem like they wanted to help because it is so outdated. I like this model and would like to get it fixed for a backup unit. Thanks again

    Help......Avtech 760 4ch dvr...

How did you connect the psu to the mainboard?
  8. Today I shut a power strip that the dvr was plugged into by accident and I immediately turned it back on. Now the dvr beeps for about 5 seconds then the red LED on the mainboard blinks 4 times then it stays on steady for 5 seconds then goes off and the fan comes on and that's it. I took the power supply board out. removed the main board and the back board where the cameras connect and I got it to boot once. When I tried to connect the ir plug back in the back of the unit so I could shut it down the proper way by entering the 4 zeros via the remote, but I must have bumped something and it shut down on it's own. I put everything back together and it went back to doing the same thing. It starts the 5 second beep as soon as I touch the power supply plug into the power board. I think I was able to hard reset it once before I got it to start that one time. I couldn't get it to hard reset again, if I am in fact doing this the right way. I checked the power across the power supply plug, the power board, and the plug going to the hard drive and I am aple to get the proper voltage across the pins. I also have a ide to sata converter and there is a green led and a red led lit. I noticed that the red light was not lit when it booted up. I tried everything including a different hard drive, booting without a hard drive, booting with an ide hard drive without the ide-sata adapter and it still does the same thing - 5 second beep; 4 blinks of the led light; led goes out and the fan comes on and the green/red led's come on the ide/sata adapter. Nothing else happens. I don't believe it's the power supply because I get voltage and it did boot once during all this. Anyone know what the 5 second beep followed by the 4 led blinks mean? I would really appreciate the help as I need this to record the next few days. Thanks
  9. I recently got a Droid X and I downloaded ipcam lite from the market. Worked so good with my avtech 787 that I got the paid version. (About $10 from the market and the developer responded to all my questions). The lite version only allows you to view 4 or 5 cams and I needed to add more so I got the paid version. Give it a try if you can't get anything else to work. I never tried eagle eyes or any of the other programs though so I can't evaluate them, but I'm happy with this one.
  10. After looking up and down the internet I can't seem to find the avtech sata01 ide converter. I will just have to try a different one and hope that it works. Is there anyone that has had success with a certain model over others? I could always go with a 500gb ide but I would rather go with a 1tb sata if I can since it's a better drive and cheaper. TIA
  11. I have a dvr1615n I got thru scd. It's an avtech, (I believe model 787) and I have the stock 250gb hd and a 400gb slave. Worked flawlessly for almost 3 years. Lately I keep getting Warning scanning disk message and then it restarts, setting alarm off regularly, and it seems to be only when it's recording on the slave drive, so I am assuming the drive is going. Just a couple of questions: 1. What's the max size hd this will support? Was thinking on getting a Seagate 1tb or at least a 750gb. 2. I can't find the avtech sata ide converter in stock anywhere, is there any other one that is compatible, or is there any place I can get the avtech sata01? There are several others available but what ones will work? 3. What's the latest firmware version for this dvr? Thanks in advance
  12. you will find more info here than from SCT. SCT telford sold the AVTECH 761ASV might be worth giving them a call 01952 505 053 or scan this site for info. http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx Thanks. I checked the site out and it's very helpful. I couldn't find anything on a sata/ide converter though. Any ideas on which ones would work with the anvtech dvr's?
  13. Someone here mentioned that an sata ide converter will work as long as it's chipset jm20330 (may have numbers wrong)? Is this correct? Also does it have to be SMART?
  14. Hello, I am totally new to this. First post so please be nice. I have 4 cctv ir cams hooked up my pc running active webcam. I have the cams going thru 2 tv tuner cards, one pci and one usb. They lag a little and jump over each other when I am using other applications. I have a intel p4 3.0 ghz with 2 gb ram. I tried to get a swann pcdvr4net 4 channel card to work with AW to no avail so I sent it back. (I got it to recognize 1 cam with some effort). What I would like to know is what is a good 4 channel (or possibly pci card with drivers that AW will recognize? Keep in mind that I will have to swap it out with the tv tuner card as I have no extra pci slot. This will allow me to do away with the usb tuner as well. thanks for being nice to a newbie

    setting up avc760

Thanks for the info.. Are they called AVTECH VGA01 VGA adapter ?? Do you know where I can get them from a reputable source?? I just figured that since it was a VGA port, I could just use a F/F adapter then it'll work fine. It did not mention about a special adapter being needed to use a VGA monitor.. Thanks again for your help.. I don't know if this is what you are looking for but it is what I got to use a vga crt; [edit by mod-store link removed-please post manufacturer link or pm the user, thanks] (Keep in mind I ordered it for a dvr1615n, I don't know if it will work with your dvr). I hope this helps.
  17. I'm fairly new to all this. I have been running a pc based software system with 4 cams. I just ordered a dvr1615n - it's a 16ch standalone without the hdd from scd.xxx (xxx=com). I am now wondering if I made a good move. Is anybody here familiar with this unit? I would appreciate it if someone could take a look at the specs (can't post a link here but you can get the specs by going over there and typing dvr1615n in the search box). Just wanted to know if anyone thinks this is a good unit. Just want to use it for residential purposes. I also ordered a 400gig hdd and hope that it will auto format. I was told that the max hdd is 400gig by the techs, (even though the specs say 500). They said Seagate or Maxtor works best but the only 400gig ide that was available was a Samsung so I hope this works also. Thanks in advance for your input.

    Hello Guys and Girls

It was through the software. Everytime I clicked apply to change the password or add a user it wiped everything out and I had to reset the dvr to default to get the software set up again. They thought a firmware update would fix the issue but it didn't take. I will keep you posted when I get it back. It worked great except for this issue, but I didn't like the idea of not being able to change the password for remote viewing. They seem to take care of their customers. They even sent a label for the shipping. One question... I put a 400gb hard drive in it. I know I could put a slave drive and add an array, but what is the limit on this unit for hdd space onboard? I heard it is 500gb TOTAL capacity, is this true? I was going to add another 400gb as a slave, but if it's true that 500 is the limit then I guess I will have to get an array. Thanks again.

    Hello Guys and Girls

Thanks for your reply scorpion. Nice informative website. I like the dvr as well, but I had a problem with the software. I couldn't change the password or add users so they told me to do a firmware upgrade and it crashed. Everytime I tried to change the password or add a user it deleted all the users and I had to reset the dvr. Had to ship it back, now I have to wait until I get it back. It seemed to work good other than this problem. Thanks again for your response.

    Hello Guys and Girls

Anyone out there familiar with this unit?
  21. Thanks, I'll have to look into one of them. Going to be away for a few days. I'll check into them when I get back. Thanks for the help.
  22. Does Geo software have the features (ex. power outage reset; auto reboot; etc) like AW? I just want it to be able to run while I am away and restart the program in the last state in the event of power outage. We get a lot of off and on outages, just enough to restart the computer. Do you have a link to the 60 and 120 fps cards? Thanks again.
  23. The card I was working with doesn't say either way if it will work with AW. I didn't get choppy video until I added the 2nd cam to the 1 tv tuner. The reason I like AW is that it resets the program upon a power failure or any reboot and allows me to auto reboot if I am away for a period of time, along with other functions. I am sure other software is capable of this but I am unfamiliar with anything else as I a fairly new to this. The card that I was looking at is $88 with Surveillance 4 Camera Basic Software. I don't know anything about this software so if anyone does, let me know how it is. As for your questions: Is your program (Active Cam) promoted by Pysoft? Yes What version of Active Cam are you running? 6.8 What level of Active Cam are you running? Standard, but I was going to upgrade to deluxe for the conversion tool. How much are you willing to spend on a 4 channel card? I don't know as I just started pricing them. I am at a stage now where I just may go the route of getting a 4 or 8 channel dvr if I have to spend a lot. Thanks again for your replies. ou812 First name that popped into my head
  24. Thanks rory. Scorpion, I posted a lengthy reply but I don't know where it went. I will try again in a little while.
