Hi everyone, i am not an expert and don't pretend to be so please bare with me I installed a 32 camera system and have an issue with a few cameras that are dropping.. i can see there is power to the camera as either the IR is lit or if i put my finger over the sensor the IR comes on, however at the DVR end it shows that there is a VLOSS each camera is connected with baluns either end of cat 6 cable. i am using 5amp PSU with a 4 splitter to power 4 cameras off one PSU the cameras have power of 300MA so having 4 cameras to a 5amp PSU should be plenty the cable length might be a factor because the longer the distance the more voltage drop however one of the cameras was not a big distance , less than 10m. i checked the cable and it came back fine. so i replaced the cable to be on the safe side just to test and although the camera came back online it was VLOSS the next day, or when i checked again this is happening with 3 of my cameras with various distances, one is about 10m away, the other two are probably about 30m. no way are they greater than 50m which is not supposed to be an issue either. Someone said that it might not be getting enough power when the IR comes on and this is when it loses video they suggested i try and use the PSU for 2 cameras instead of 4 however i would of thought 5amp would of been plenty to handle 4 cameras or could it be that longer distance cables draw more from the PSU itself and it cannot pass enough to X camera? not entirely sure how this voltage drop works and if the scenario above is plausable? anyone else come across this and how did you combat it? i cannot run any power locally to the cameras but i do have spare 12v PSU's to try and i could run them independant on each camera to test could i get a 24v and convert back to 12v if needs be to give more power so less voltage drop? again i am not to clued up on voltage and this issue

Possible voltage drop / CCTV over cat 6 - VLOSS
techmob replied to techmob's topic in Security Cameras
finally got around to testing one of the locations/cameras i tested the voltage at the end of the balun, camera end and it was 12v. so no issue with power i swapped the camera with one working location and low and behold the working location became the vloss and the trouble location is now working so must be the camera that is the issue? also i have two others to swap/test which have the same problem.. so looks like i might have 3 duff cameras.. will test/swap the others when i get a chance -
Possible voltage drop / CCTV over cat 6 - VLOSS

You asked if I could double power, how can I do that with rj45 plugs and one single cable hence repeating my setup Would I test the end of the rj45 plug for the voltage? Thanks for your help -
Possible voltage drop / CCTV over cat 6 - VLOSS
techmob replied to techmob's topic in Security Cameras
Hi guys I have not done that yet, not sure how I can do that with the cable and baluns i have I am using cat 6 cable and have baluns at either end. From the dvr end I have a 5amp psu which has a splitter on to feed 4 cameras. The cat 6 cable terminates either end into an rj45 plug and I am using balun king (baluns) The cameras I am using are rated 300ma The 3 cameras I currently have an issue with are approx 25m in length I have tested the cameras with it's own psu albeit from the dvr end so it is still passing power through balun and cat 6 to the camera, and I get the same problem I have had the cameras working for hours at a time but will goto video loss, also the dvr still detects a signal as if I unplug it, it will alarm although it does not do this all the time, but I have noticed it One of the cameras went blank but did not report video loss however it has given video loss in the past I have also noticed that if I unplug the cat 6 cable from the balin at the dvr end it sometimes brings the video back but will soon vloss I have also noticed that the IR will still work on the cameras but it gives a vloss at the dvr Thanks -
ok thanks for the answer

This is the kind of thing i need to do but unfortunately i don't have the skills to make my own active x work i have a dvr http://www.cctvdirect.co.uk/products/Killer-XDH8-%252d-Realtime-DVR-%252b-Mobile-viewing.html and the active x to view the software doesn't automatically log you in and it does not show 4 cameras which i would prefer. i need a computer (which will be the remote monitor station) once loaded , load into the viewer and view 4 cameras without the user doing anything i have got as far as logging the user in automatically, made internet explorer into kiosk mode so it is full screen but i cant get it to chose 4 cameras. this requires the user to click as we only have 4 camera to monitor which we want to fill the screen is there anything out there that will allow me to do such a thing the active x information is "UDROCX_H264 Control" UDROCX_H264.ocx thanks

avtech 782 dvr - FPS recording problem and other issues
techmob posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hi Guys i have had the avtech 782 for about a year and have finally installed one camera and setup this dvr. i thought it came with a manual and cd but cannot find them anywhere anyway, i have set it to manual record and have set the record settings to frame and quality best. ( i only have one camera and would like all the FPS to be used on that) please see attached picture for exact settings. i thought this dvr could do 25fps per channel? if i alter the resolution and quality setting on video server. i.e have the setting to low then the picture is awful but the fps is higher around 20fps the live viewing through this dvr on a tv is superb quality but playback of a recording is not as good and stuttering , i guess to do with the fps? i cannot view the dvr by internet explorer or firefox as i get the , i have tried the troubleshooting on scorpians site but with no result, i don't seem to get the active x prompt. what am i doing wrong? how can i view what fps this setup is actually recording at? thanks for any help -
avtech 782 dvr - FPS recording problem and other issues
techmob replied to techmob's topic in Digital Video Recorders
thanks for the reply so it is recommended to record in CIF mode and then i can have 25fps per channel? as i only have one camera i was hoping i could record in the highest quality without any motion problems i thought that i could use all the FPS on one channel as i only have one camera -
i am looking at getting a gv 650 4 cam card will need 2 cameras to compliment this system, ones that can give me nice enough picture quality for the 2 channels @ 25fps i would need to use them in the night, one would be on the side of the house, aiming down my path towards the bottom and back garden, probably looking at 10-15 metres until you reach the bottom of my garden. basically i have an wall and the other side of that is a footpath, and recently found people climbing that wall and upto no good at the bottom of my garden, even though the wall is about 10 ft. i will have a security light in the back garden which is set to catch any movement which would help with the cameras lighting i think on the front of the house i would have my other camera, and this will be looking over my car and part of the front garden.there are street lights near my house, so it will not be very dark, but again i could also add some lighting if needs be not sure which cameras to go for, obviously nothing to expensive, but something good enough to recognise people and be good enough to compliment the 25fps geovision card i would have, giving nice live monitoring possibly £100 - £150 on both? just not sure what spec i should be looking at to suit my needs i do not want the cameras to be huge and stand out. so nice and descreet would be better i think anyone have any suggestions thanks

Hi any uk vendors of the geovision systems on here? looking at getting the geovision 650-4 cam setup

oooh i'd hate that now i am thiniking about the gv600 card which is 25fps , which would give me 12.5 fps per cam but i recall you saying i could have smart record set or something like that, which would give me the full fps on the camera which is catching motion, is that correct? which i guess would be like real time? is there also a setting that i can set a camera to a certain fps, because the main camera which will be at the front, will be the important one and if i can choose the fps for live monitoring such as 18fps and the back camera which is not as important to 7fps and i could live with the stutter, can this be achieved in geovision software? and then when something is motion detected the camera who detects it, uses the full fps is this possible? thankyou rory
-
sorry still learning! what is the time lapse mode? not sure how poor 7.5fps would be, doesn't sound to promising to me!
-
thats good to know thanks again rory some people have said the gv650 is an over kill for a 2 camera system as i would only need 2 cameras, and suggested i go for the gv250 card, but this is only a 15fps card? i am after something that gives clear images and good live viewing and recording would i achieve this with the gv250 and two cameras, because the price does appeal to me

genuine kodicom 240fps 8ch v geovision gv650 4 cam 60fps
techmob posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
might be able to get the kodicom off someone, it also comes with the software cd but i am not sure what version, it will be pulled from a working machine and is genuine if i got it, how would i be able to get updated software for it? or would i have to stay with the one provided it is between kodicom and geovision which i go for, but it all depends on the software so far geovision is winning in my eyes, but i need to make sure i only need two cameras with the setup, so even 60fps is enough, but it is the software that is important i think, i need flexability with using the pc at the same time as the dvr thanks -
that sounds ok so to make sure, i have my display at 1440x900 and i will be able to start the geovision software with this resolution and set geovision to say 800x600 for example and my display resolution will remain at 1440x900 and only the geovision software will run at 800x600 have i understood it correctly thanks again Rory

can you resize the geovision software window, or does the app only run in full screen?

thanks i hope so finally decided what i want, now just need to source it

i am new to this but looking for advice on a pc based system
techmob posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Hi all been reading through this site as a guest for a while now, but thought it was time i registered and posted i have a decent pc, which has an intel dual core E6600 cpu, and 2gb of ddr2 pc800 dual channel ram, plenty of hardrive space etc, so it's just a matter of adding a dvr pci card to it i want a dvr system which can support atleast two cameras, with monitoring and live recording, motion detection etc etc, i have a widescreen lcd 19" and would like the software to support 1440x900 resulotions or something similar i bought a system off ebay - cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200141158784&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=010 but it forced me to run my display resolution at 1024x768 or it would refuse to run, so i sent it back for a refund hence my quest for the ideal system what sort of prices am i looking at for a 2 camera system, which has some nice software i need one with decent enough software as i think this is an important part to the system? i am from the uk what sort of money are we looking at, for a dvr card, software , 2 night vision cameras and cables/connections is there a certain FPS one i should be looking for? i don't need more than 4 cameras, defenatly not, and 2 would do most likely so i would only need a decent enough card to handly 2 cameras at a decent FPS, and what is the max FPS channel i should be looking for 25-30? i think the main thing for me to get right at the moment, is the software and pci card any advice, i am still learning thanks -
i am new to this but looking for advice on a pc based system
techmob replied to techmob's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
thanks for the helpful responses, i will try and explain my situation further i need two cameras, one for the car/front garden and one for the side/back garden these will basically be used for live monitoring but also when i am not here or asleep, catch motion detection or recording night vision cameras are preferable but i can also put a security light sensor with them to help with the visibility my screen display is 1440x900, but what i ment was, some software i tried on my last purchase did not even run unless i used a certain resolution what is important to me, is the software runs along side my native display (1440x900) and the software just be in its own window, with the correct size for the camera windows etc, without affecting the rest of my pc needs, and i can easily minimize the camera software when i am working on something else, or resize the software? to a certain corner of my workspace and make it stay on top (is possible) thats the sort of thing i ment regarding resolutions, aslong as the software runs with my resolution and i can work along side it?, then that shouldn't be a problem should it? i am at my pc allot of the time, so ideally would like to be able to monitor things from workspace ( i.e pc) ......... as for FPS, has anyone got an sample FPS footage, so i know what to expect if i got a 60fps card, then i could run 2 cameras at 30fps , is that correct? if i go for a geovision, where can i get the updates from, would it have to be from the person i bought it from or can i create an account at geovision, how does it work, as i do not want to buy a product and be stuck without updates thanks
