    CCTV storage design without NVR

I've had the misfortune to only really use 3 brands in our CCTV system. Honeywell, Dedicated Micros and now Hikvision. The first was a loooooong time ago and I have no good impressions of it. The second are bust now, only recently came out with features you'd need, and were prohibitively expensive. Hikvision are cheap and effective. The only downside is the software is... clumpy. If you use the hikvision system though, you would be better off using their NVRs instead of a NAS setup. Although the cameras would work with both, you would just have to tell each camera where the NVR is on the network. Most of the newer NVRs come with built in PoE switches too so you don't have to worry about the network infrastructure either. It's the literal Definition of plug and play. As far as your video wall goes, I was playing with the idea of using an android HDMI stick running their software and just setting it up to display the cameras I wanted. Failing that a windows HDMI PC doing the same thing (As I said before their software is a bit clumpy, none more so than the mobile app). I am just 3 weeks into using the brand my self and I've already 1 building, the library and the Front end of the theatre. I will be experimenting with other android apps later to see if they can manage a video wall better. Also the recorders have a channel 0 feature you can setup a multi screen view with that's broadcast as a single channel to save bandwidth, don't think you can interact with the image though. ... I rant, Chris Johnson
