Congrats Rory. Glad to hear you're back in action, but I missed it... Did you have to pay the 400 bucks to the dealer?

    best way to run cable

I'll have to try that. I almost lost a pole the other day. It took the guy I had working with me like 40 minutes to find it in the ceiling. Of course it turned up missing at the end of the day when all I wanted to do was go home. Luckily I had tons of phone calls to make from within my air conditioned truck... Because I sure didn't want to have to go looking around for that thing!

Hmm. I wasn't aware of that. I also never realized your moral high ground was so dry you never so much as stepped in a puddle.
  5. WoW! Something tells me this was a glitch... Or the site was featured on Slashdot or something?

    crawling like a rat

Well, if the client is willing to pay time and materials and can wait 3 weeks, I'm available... But it would probably be pretty expensive to fedex my tools there and back.

    fiber expert

Thanks for the props Scott! I don't know if I would call myself an expert , but I do work with optical fiber often. I am much more knowledgeable with the media itself then how it pertains to CCTV. If your question relates to the optical fiber then please do feel free to PM me. If your question is geared more towards hardware needed (media converters) for CCTV over fiber then others around here would probably be better suited to answer...

    best way to run cable

I've played with a CableCaster a little bit. It was semi-effective, But mostly a toy in my opinion.

    best way to run cable

For the occasional cable pull you WILL probably be better off with the weight on a string approach others have mentioned. If the ceiling is wide open I use a gopher pole: It's 22 feet long when it is telescoped out all the way. retracted it is only 4+ feet. If access is tighter, or for fishing down walls I use Glow rods: I don't know why I call them glow rods... Mine don't glow. So those work great for running cable. But around here nothing can hang on the ceiling support structure. We can't just lay cable on the grid. It all has to be self supporting. So if regulations is something you are concerned about you might want to check with your local Authority Having Jurisdiction. (AHJ) about acceptable practices.

So do all these companies use the same "archive viewer"? Because I can't figure that one out. Also I too have a couple of issues with the Bosch playback viewer. The time line scale doesn't seem to work too well, and most importantly it rarely pauses when I hit the pause button.
  13. I am trying to use the archive player for the Bosch DVR4C. I download the video and select all 4 cameras for d/l for the time frame I want. When I view the clip I can only watch the first channel. In other words... I don't know how to switch to the other cameras. I'm guessing if I downloaded cams 2 through 4 I would be seeing cam 2 when I played back the clip. I'll have to try that to see. I can d/l the clips individually, and play it back one at a time. But since it gives the option to d/l all 4 cams at once I have to assume I am missing something here... Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

    FIBER TRAINING

Oh, keep in mind that tutorial is a rough approximation at best. The only real way to learn it is to have someone show you. Maybe mike sandman has some videos on fiber termination... www.sandman.com

    FIBER TRAINING

I use Leviton's "Thread Lock" system. http://www.levitonvoicedata.com/learning/animationplayer.asp?filename=LVDD_Fiber_Anime.swf If I were to do it again I would take a real close look at the "Corning UniCam No Epoxy, No Polish Connector". Or the "AMP Lightcrimp Plus No Epoxy, No Polish Connector" Pretty much whichever manufacturer you go with you have to buy a termination kit that costs anywhere from 1000 to 1500 dollars US.

    Haystacks?

Oh, now I gotch ya. I pictured securitymonster trying to use an existing cabling system for his cameras. I didn't even think of those proprietary systems.

Yeah, you mean because it isn't twisted?

    Haystacks?

I think I know what you're saying. And yes that sounds right. You should be able to just plug your RJ11 plug into the jack as well. The center pins are the same for the EIA/TIA 568 and USOC standards.

    Haystacks?

I found these: http://www.connecttech.net/default.php?cPath=237 But it specifically states it's for data, not video... I guess they say that because it's 50 ohm? But I think analog video will work on 50 ohm connectors. **add** OH... Here's what Leviton says:

    Dead pixels?

How common are dead pixels? Is it unusual to have one on a new camera, or do they usually develop over time?
