    Another random thought

LoL. That's why my girlfriend won't allow cameras in the house. But I do have a couple out on the front of the house. She does like that because she can simply turn the channel on any tv to see who's at the front door.

That's funny because I have had 2 jobs where I carried a firearm. I constantly had dreams about a malfunction during a firefight. What's funnier is the one time I thought I might have to actually fire I wasn't worried about a malfunction at all. What I remember most was thinking about how loud the shots were going to be. It's strange what a guy will worry about in a stressful situation.

    Geovision 7.0

This thread talks about the blinking eyes being gone: http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=14112 But geo was demo'ing software at ISC that had the blinking eyes. I didn't ask what version they were demo'ing, But I would guess it's the latest/greatest?
  4. I thought you were having good luck using NVT baluns?

    Help in choosing DVR

Look up the member here "powertelecomm". Rory demo'd and had good things to say about his line. Basically very well priced for the features. I think this is it, but can't find the posts now: http://powertelecomm.com.hosting.domaindirect.com/product_r9000.htm Anyway, I am checking out Powertelecomm's booth at the show for sure.

    Where to put microphone ?

I think maxwell smart always hid the mic in the vase of flowers. But if you don't have a vase of flowers does there happen to be a telephone centrally located in the room? Cool thing about using a telephone to hide the mic is you don't have to hide the wiring. Just use the second pair of the line cord. install the mic in the phone somehow and you're set.

    It Takes a Thief

"It Takes a Thief" Has anyone seen this show on The Discovery Channel? I catch bits and pieces of it, but I am going to try and watch it tonight: http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/ittakesathief/ittakesathief.html I see Dedicated Micros is a contributor to the show: http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/ittakesathief/tips/links/experts.html

    It Takes a Thief

I agree. The setup is kinda cheesy and not much detail about the added security devices. (Which is the point of the show I thought.) Looks like all the electronic stuff they showed as being added to the existing alarm was wireless. Come on, I want to see some tricked out installs. Too much ransack, not enough how-to for me.

    Hunt DVR's

You're always thinking Rory. That's a good idea. I want to confirm network operations from within the area. I don't want to drive home 60 miles to find I can't access the DVR. Plus we are already looking at a second installation. Makes sense to multi-site with the same equipment. Also the more I talk with him the more he wants me to administer the systems. I should search this site for talk on service contracts...

    Hunt DVR's

Thanks. So I load up a DOS emulator? DO you happen to know if that plays well with serial communications?

    Hunt DVR's

Thanks for taking a look at that Rory. I appreciate it. I may have to put XP on my laptop. I'll get it working on the bench here before install, but the job site is 60 miles away. I'd like to confirm operation on site. My telephone programming apps run on DOS. With XP wouldn't I need a Virtual DOS Machine or some such thing?

    Greetings Everyone

My bet is Missouri. Anyone giving odds? Looks like you lose fella, and is that supposed to be some kind of insult? Insult? no. I just guessed Missouri because I saw a mo in your email address. The bet/odds remark was a joke because a bunch of us are on our way to ISC in Vegas. Sorry for the confusion. I meant no harm.

    Hunt DVR's

I'm going to use the 8 channel on a project I'm doing. I have been playing with that demo for a couple weeks now and I like it. Only drawback for me personally is no web app. and minium Windows 2000 or XP. So it doesn't work on my laptop. They do have a bandwidth problem at the demo site though. The demo was very responsive over the weekend. But it was dragging along badly this morning while I was showing a guy what it could do... He bought it anyway

    Router Interference?

I think the 108Mbps is proprietary. So I think you would have to have a netgear card in your PDA. What will your PDA support? 802.11b 11g or 11a? I prefer linksys products myself.

    Infrared system

Yeah, there are a lot of voltage drop calculators on the web. If you find a good one for low voltage stuff please let me know!

    Infrared system

What is the interface between the PS and the lamp? You maybe able to extend the distance with larger gauge wire. But if there is some proprietary connector then that maybe difficult to do.

    It Takes a Thief

But then that would be like all the other shows on TV here.

    T Factor?

Well I cant vouch for the camlock type systems because I haven't used them. But I have used Levitons Threadlock system which is a mechanical connector (vs. an epoxy connector) and I can reliably connectorize an optical strand in about 5 minutes. But it takes another 10 or 15 minutes for me to polish the connector. Probably closer to 10 minutes though. I'm sure if you worked fiber everyday you could be much faster. I notice I'm much faster on my last connector of a job then I was on the first. So, with no polish It probably takes about 5 minutes per strand. Not bad. That's only about twice as long as a Cat5 jack. Of course there is some cable prep time before you can terminate the fiber. Plus you have to put it all in a nice fiber distribution can. Can't just let it all hang out like you could with coax.

    T Factor?

There are no-polish fiber solutions that are easy. It basically just butt splices the pre-polished connectors onto your fiber strands. The mechanical splice kit is around 1000 bucks. The fusion splicers start around 15000 bucks. So optical fiber can be easy if you are using the tight buffered fiber. Stay away from the loose tube stuff! it requires threading each individual fiber into a jacketed fanout kit. Big pita.

    Bosch Divar2 Remote Demo?

Thanks for the detailed clarifications Rory. There is no denying the similarities between Webgate and Hunt is there? That Bosch looks like a great unit. But it looks like at least a large part of the interface is done for/by Bosch. So I won't be holding my breath on a Hunt web interface.

    Bosch Divar2 Remote Demo?

I asked Hunt tech support about Bosch using Hunt equipment. He hadn't heard anything about it. So he went to the Bosch website while I was still on the phone with him. Couldn't find a screen shot of the software, but he didn't think the Bosch stuff looked like Hunt hardware. (I forgot to ask about Webgate) But wouldn't say yes or no. SO... Bosch OEM's it from Webgate, which is the same as Hunt? Whose hardware is it, and who's software is it? I wonder if the new firmware is all Bosch, or if Hunt will have the new firmware as well? I mentioned no web client to a Hunt sales guy. He never said anything like "it's coming soon".
