I saw the enclosure. I hadn't noticed the name.

    Geo 800 problem

The port forwarding is needed on the client side? He said remote view works at other computers, just not his home computer. Or are the computers (that work) on the same LAN as the Geo? Just trying to learn this stuff.
  5. I don't have any IP camera recommendations. (No experience) But I am sure you will be much happier recording motion events at say... 7 pictures per second vs. 6 pictures per minute. 10 seconds in an eternity when it comes to motion passing by your cameras' field of view. You mentioned short driveway; How long does it take to walk up your driveway?

    Nice work rory. Very professional!
  7. Is there a general guideline for prosecutable images? Rules of thumb? What are the minimum lighting levels, resolution, composition (angle/distance from subject)? The camera is basically an eyewitness right? How good does a video have to be to convince a jury? The reason I ask is because of all these lousy clips you see on the evening news of convenience store robberies. It always starts off, "Police are looking for this man..." And the quality of the video makes it extremely unlikely you could actually convict someone because the video might look like the guy. Any tips?

    Router.

That would suck. I have always liked Linksys, and was excited when Cisco took over. I was thinking we would get some amazing products down the road because of the buyout. Guess not. I will still buy another Linksys at this point. But any sign of dropped connections and it will be the first thing I swap out during testing.

    Router.

Could it be a firmware issue with the Linksys? I have put in many. And have two right here at home. Never an issue. I have had to power cycle my modem a few times over the years but the routers keep on routing. One is moderate use for me and my familys' needs. The other gets a daily workout with one wireless customer that is a downloading fiend. The reason I ask about firmware is because mine are older pre-cisco routers with original f/w. Could it be Cisco screwed up Linksys?

    ViewMaxDigital

I see many demo's showing video. I am sure it is to demonstrate frame rates. I don't see how showing cartoons is any worse then any other video source. Maybe cartoons were picked because it is a safe bet nothing too objectionable will be seen? Overall the site seemed to have all the regular info someone would be looking for while researching the product.
  11. I caught the last minute or so of an interesting story on my local news channel. It showed a police cruiser rolling through a strip mall parking lot. As he drove past the stores he would look over to his monitor and see multiplexed camera shots of the interior of the store. This was somewhere in the Bay area in Northern California, USA. Is this technique being used elsewhere?
  12. Does anyone know how this works? Is it a simple 802.11 link? Is it all proprietary, or can it be deployed easily with off the shelf technology? I know they would need a Networked DVR, wireless link, client software, laptop, anything else? I'm guessing all premises use a common SSID. But I'm wondering how much effort the cops have to go through to connect. Do they just drive within range and magically have a picture, or do they have to log in and all that?

    Linksys Router Going mad

I would look for a firmware update on the linksys site. That could fix the problem you are having. Also you could look through the knowledge base for similar issues. If that didn't fix it I would try a different router. VPN is Virtual Private Network. Basically a very secure point to point connection. And googling "port 32611" looks like it has to do with VPN.
  14. I guess I should have said the legality of a splice in the attic without an electrical box will depend on your “Local Authority Having Jurisdiction“. Around here low voltage splices don't have to be in boxes.
  15. If the splice is in an electrical box, or in the attic then you can just use wirenuts. If it is an exposed splice then you will have to do your best with solder, tape and shrink tubing.

    Prosecutable images

So are you talking about a time stamp, or something more specific?

    Prosecutable images

I'm pretty sure they can use video here. Every cop car I see has a dash mounted camera. And I frequently hear about people willing to plead guilty after seeing the video evidence against them. I doubt their lawyer would go for that in most cases if the video was inadmissible. But I could be wrong?

    Scope camera

But if I remember right, live-shot was a camera mounted Next to the rifle. Not on the rifle. I guess you would get a camera with the focal lengh you want, mount a glass filter with the crosshairs on it to the lens? Or maybe they add the crosshairs digitally somewhere in the process? Or a glass plate w/crosshairs in front of the lens? Maybe you could use a lazer sight? That would be cool and easy. Then just sight the rifle. (fire rifle, adjust camera/crosshairs to match point of impact. The Camera/crosshairs part seems easy to workout. The challenging part is: What to do with the contraption?

Thank you for serving our Country VST_Man! My Family and I truly owe you a debt of gratitude.
  21. Uhh. Same here. LoL. Knob and Tube describes an old method of installing electical service in buildings. It was back in the day before ground wires. Here's a good diagram:
  22. LoL! shows ya what I know. I would of thought crack made you move faster. But anyway. Thanks for the PM Hermin.
  23. It would be a dedicated PC, so the minimum specs to run the card as advertised. You know, I wouldn't want to put in a 256Mb video card in it if a 128 will work as advertised. Same with RAM and CPU. So basically enough, but not overbuilt. Now that I think about it. I might have the starting of an ok PC. I'll have to check the main board. But I think it's a Socket 478. But I would have to buy a CPU. ATI Rage 128 for sure and 256MB SDR.
  24. About how much would it cost to put together a PC for this 8 channel card?
