Using a newer motherboard will be an issue unless if you can find the Win98 drivers for them.. With little persistency, you should find a new motherboard that is at least few years old... that could give you this option... I wrote an article about "Ten Do's and Don'ts for Intellex" few months back. One of our main point in this article is that you do not have to use Intel based motherboard for any version Intellex... I do not remember which thread it is in this forum. We work with majority of major manufacturer DVRs and found many areas that the same manufacturers do not want you to know... and the Intellex is not an exception to this rule... Give it a try and let us know... I am sure we can get your system up and running as long as you follow basic rules of conduct with this product line. Each DVR from every manufacturer has its limitations and as well as hidden advantages that as long as you know exist, then you can easily help your customer to squeeze every drop of use possible.

Let me try it once again... and I think your bottleneck is your motherboard for the starters...
-
You have not mentioned the storage size that you are attempting to use for the Intellex storage... The system requires 8GB of partition... and the rest could be storage... However... Since you are using Win98 operating system, this OS will recognize what your motherboard will allow and no more than 160GB (with some effort)... and even no more than 60GB if your motherboard will recognition... What is interesting is that you mentioned that you changed the capture card, the drives, etc... but no mention on the motherboard... However, just remember if you change the motherboard, the chances are good that your Intellex license will stop working...

What are some popular low-midrange DVRs to consider???
CCTV_Suppliers replied to muddweiser's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Few realistic options... Sanyo, CBC, Samsung and few others. What I will suggest to look into these manufacturers and the DVRs that are embedded and ability to add as much hard drive as you can or available. Some of the models from them come with no hard drive, thus the cost is much lower.. This way you can add storage based on what your customer needs.. Besides, the ease of use, the three years warranty and support are always available from respective manufacturers and online... Pricing is decent and performance is well, compared to most, can be considered acceptable. All come with internet ready feature, playback, burn video on various medias, etc... If you do have anything specific, I can give you some models to compare... -
I like this box for the cost, ease of use and specs that are excellent compared to similar boxes in the market... Here are some of its specs: MPEG 4 Recording for Low Bit Rate, High Picture Quality, and Optimal Storage Capability 80 GB Storage Capacity Recording Speed up to 120 ips Camera Recording Rates are Individually Adjustable from 1 to 30 ips Triplex Capability - Simultaneous Recording, Playback, and Network Monitoring Built-in Motion Detection for Alarm Recording LIVE Capture Allows Still Image Output of Live Images Easy Search Functions - Event Search, Time/Date Search, Time Line Search PTZ Telemetry Control Capability IR Remote Control (Included) of up to Nine DVRs Supports Composite and VGA Monitor Outputs Two Way Audio Over the Network Easy Backup of BMP or JPEG Still Images and AVI Files with USB Memory Stick Supports DHCP for Automatic IP Address Assignment Also Supports TCP/IP, SMTP & PPPoE Supports up to Four Concurrent Network Users Auto Recording with Optimum File Size What you have available is 30FPS per channel... Another part that I like about it is that I can add more storage... Coupled with three years warranty, it is one of the cost effective, yet functional embedded system for the four channel DVR market.

Excellent choice on the cameras... Basically both have the same camera technology but differ in packaging. It is cheaper to go with the minidome version as recommended by Sawbones... as it also comes with vandal and weather proof housing and also IR corrected lens. Too many features to mention here, but all in all, minidome will be your more cost effective option. As for the picture quality at night? Well, you have to provide some source of light and do not expect it to shine in a pitch dark. However, with availability of marginal light, the picture quality (in black and white of course) is a target that most manufacturer cameras try to achieve. Also, any major light condition changes within your area view during the day or night (dark on one of the side and shiny on another), this is the only camera that will give you very uniform picture instead of washing the picture quality as most focus on bright area. As I said, way too many feature with this product. Pricing should be around $500.00 range and with three years warranty, you will not be shortchanged in the performance nor with the picture quality... Great choices... Keep us in the loop on your final selection...

Is anyone having problems with connection and navigation in the the forum? Looks like every time I connect, it takes a very long time to switch between pages.. and this was not the case last year.. My up and down Internet speed is very high and I do not see similar problems navigating other websites... Any thoughts?

You have the best Panasonic day/night camera or better yet, the best day/night camera in the market period. This is part of Panasonic's Startlight camera series and the pricing is very close to $1,000... Now, this is a 1/2" camera and you must use 1/2" lens. We tried various lenses in the market, but you can not scarifies the best camera with poor quality lens... or better yet, 1/3" incompatible lens. Is this combination of camera/lens part of Pan Tilt system by any chance? I read above that you are using varifocal lens up to 120mm... and if so, do you control the zoom feature with some sort of equipment? Dependent on the answer above, there are some great lenses out there that will work with this camera perfectly and combination will give you a picture quality that is second to none... and even better... You can see picture at night (in black and white) with very minimal or even no light at all as long as you have reflection of some sort of light available. We use these cameras in military installations, government building and in some large construction complexes... and they work great... but you have to make sure that not only your lens is compatible, but also is a better quality... Afterall, lens determines what you see through the camera and not the other way around.

CCTV_Suppliers replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in Questions about this site
Larry, errors still pup up here and there and it is not as annoying as how much slower this site has become.. It take me roughly 10+ seconds to log in and then every time I visit any page within the forum, it average the same if not worse... I mean, it works, but seems that it is getting worse... and feels like we are using dial up connection... I am sure with your persistency with your hosting company, you should be able to fix this and I am sure that you already addressed it... but it is the same and if not worse... Just trying to help... -

Building New System From Ground Up
CCTV_Suppliers replied to Chardler's topic in General Digital Discussion
Good choice on your selection of the cable and you are on the right track in your decision to use CAT5e cable for your entire system. Running all your runs using this cable takes care of your present and future cable needs. This way you can use analog cameras today using video baluns and later when the pricing of IP cameras stabilize and become more acceptable price range, the you can remove the video baluns and install Ethernet connectors and you are ready to rock and roll... This process eliminates any future costs of cable and labor to adhere to IP technology based equipment. Since it comes with several extra pairs of cables, it will allow to switch such pairs if for whatever reasons something goes wrong with existing pair... Choose your centralized equipment (DVR, monitor, power supply) location carefully. This way the installation of the present equipment and even conversion to future equipment will be much simpler and easier. Have you decided which cameras and DVR you may be using? -
Bosh doesn't have any online demo for this product unfortunately... and there is none that I am aware online from anyone else... They are using proprietary remote client software for view and control of content with this DVR...

Great box and works very well... combined with the best industry warranty and technical support, you can not go wrong... If you have very specific questions, let us know.

Cat5 Video Baluns with power
CCTV_Suppliers replied to avdesignoh's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Ones we had great luck with are made by VU - http://videobaluns.com/ Pricing should be in the lower spectrum on what you found and yet, they work exceptionally well... Contact the manufacturer and they will make recommendation where to get their products dependent where you live... Most distributors carry these baluns, so give them a try too... -

CCTV_Suppliers replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in Questions about this site
The idea about this problem was not to "keep score"... rather inform the owners of this forum that there are various problems with connection, the speed and error messages.... It is up to them if and when will they completely solve these issues... It is great that there recommendation on how to fix it, but it is a mute point unless moderators will address them and I am sure they already have done it (as I am seeing major improvements) and will continue working on the errors... I do not see any errors anymore.. but slowdown is still present. Dependent how many times anyone visits this forum, I am sure you guys can tell how well everything works... -
It will not be too far fetched if this new drive could be bad... Maxtor is owned by Seagate and recently we had tremendous amount of out of box failures... Do you have another new drive or even older drive that you do not have to use for anything else? I am suggesting process of elimination.... Please change the ribbon cables too... dependent on age, these cables do dry up and all it takes one of the lines on this cable to crack... One other thought... make sure assign the "master" and "slave" configuration of the drives correctly. There are drives that will not work correctly (certain maxtor, wd and even Seagate drives) if the assignment is not correct... some, if required to assign as "slave", must find other drive as "master" or assignment of "master" with "slave" present, otherwise it will not work... If none of these steps work, then the culprit is the onboard controller... and there is not much you can do about it... It is integrated to the motherboard... I did not ask when you bought this system... Dependent when you bought it and it does not matter from who, it may still be under warranty. I will strongly suggest to call Sanyo (they are located in Chatsworth, California and here is their contact info... http://us.sanyo.com/Security-Contact-Us/Security-Contact Call them up and they are very good in handling warranty related problems... If it is not under warranty and none of the steps above do not help, then this DVR will be an excellent target item for shooting in the desert
-
Most models, including this one from Sanyo, uses proprietary firmware that basically operates independent on what size hard drive you use. All the system functionality is on flash memory (that is what makes it embedded system" and the main reason for the hard drive is to store video. Chances are very good that this hard drive is damaged and you should replace it. Just pickup another ATA drive and plug it in... The system will automatically recognize it, format for its own use and then start storing video... I will suggest using two 500GB drives combining internal storage capacity to 1TB... Just make sure to assign the drive properly.

Sanyo VDC-D1584VA or the ICRealtime EL-450?
CCTV_Suppliers replied to Alancer's topic in Security Cameras
Well, you could not have picked a better minidome for the price... I am not familiar with ICRealtime nor Intellicam product lines and chances are they make some good equipment, but I can vouch for the Sanyo pick that you have. The only one other minidomes that could complete with this model from Sanyo are more expensive options available from Panasonic, Bosch and few others. It is very easy to install and comes with some great features as follows: * Sanyo Outdoor Vandal Proof MiniDome with Shock Resistant housing * 520 TV Lines DAY/NIGHT of Horizontal Resolution * Integrated 2.5X Zoom 2.6-6.0mm Varifocal AI lens * Wide Dynamic Range performance * 24V AC and 12V DC, Dual Power Operation * Easy installation, easy adjustment and easy set-up * Vandal-resistant Dome & Weatherproof design (IP66) * Built-in Motion Detection and Privacy Masking Functions * Three years warranty Street price is under $300... Just make sure you get a decent power supply (I will recommend Altronix 8 position 24VAC model ALTV248) and run CAT5E cables with passive baluns. This way in the future if you want to convert your equipment to IP solution, then the bulk of the work with the cables is already in place. Spending $4,000 for a complete package is a decent amount to get good quality product. Just insist on the warranty being no less than three years and make sure that supplier is there to help when needed. Any questions, let us know. -
From what I read thus far, look like WD has even more problems.. We are testing heavily with Samsung and Hitachi... Anyone used them with any success? How is their technical support or better yet, warranty response? What is anyone to do when such giant manufacturers can play games like these and get away with with it. One thing for sure, they are effective their own business and customer loyalty slowly is slipping away from them... Few engineers have been testing both Hitachi and Samsung drives... but time will tell if they will survive. Pricing is no more favorable than Seagate nor WD, but if they work, then Seagate and WD can and will loose market share... regardless how big they are. I know this - since Seagate dropped NextLevel service, which was an outside contractor dealing with Seagate's all customer service, RMA and other issues and since Seagate is trying to do their job (cost reduction measures of course), the entire communication with the Seagate is in the toilette... We can not contact their local rep for days and even weeks and even then, getting a lot of lip talk and nothing more. They are shipping the wrong product replacements or not shipping them at all, or shipping them to someone else other than intended... Coupled with the latest batches of drive problems and their tight lip attitude blaming the customers does and will effective their future business for the worse. GE Security is exclusively using Seagate drives and I can tell you - failure rates are higher than our additions... It makes no sense and we all are forced to look at other avenues and manufacturers.. Too bad for Seagate and now with WD (based on some of our member's experience with WD), looks like if Hitachi and Samsung do better job, they can sweep the market... and I hope they do to teach both Seagate and WD a very expensive lesson.

There is a definite problem that Seagate does not want to admit. Instead of trying to contain this situation, I heard and even was told that the end users are at fault blaming everyone else but themselves. The last correspondence with them was very short and they have assessed that the problem is caused by heat built ups, dirty and dusty environments and even inadequate or incorrect installation of drives causing problems. But they have no explanation why the similar drives bough over three months ago are performing exceptionally well. As matter of fact, similar drives still perform well even after 5 years of constant use of 24/7 without any hiccup... What Seagate does next will determine their loyalty to customers... So far they do not admit nor have any fixes except recent release of new firmware that suppose to address these problems. Even though they do replace these drives under warranty, it takes over a month before you see "reconditioned" drives coming your direction. Just make sure you keep the receipt when you bought such drives, so that they will be forced to honor their warranty period. All drive manufacturers had similar problems in the past and dependent how they handled "damage control" determined what happens to their sales... and thus far Seagate has not shown much of any sign that they intend to fix these problems. Remember what happened to Maxtor?? We are testing drives right now from WD, Samsung and even Hitachi. Only time will tell if these drives are good. I know many use them and I'd like to see feedback on what everyone thinks of these manufacturers and the performance of their respective drives.

Help! Samsung SHR-5042 or Sanyo DSR-2004 (updated with pic)
CCTV_Suppliers replied to volatileacid's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I am glad it worked... and please find some additional answers... You've been a great help. Cheers mate. I went for the Samsung in the end (having second thoughts lol), but it's on the way now... What swung the decision for me was: a) The samsung comes with a CD-ROM drive for backup If for backup reasons this was important, then you made the right choice... I like to perform my backups on a different computer locally, so that I will not be restricted on limited space CD or DVD media provides... and b) As I understand it - the remote viewing software is free - whereas with the Sanyo - You've gotta pay $$$ extra!!? This is not accurate - yes, you may purchase "special" remote client software, but it is for enterprise version (multiple systems at different locations) and will not be recommended. You can connect to these and most of Sanyo DVRs with Microsoft IE and it works just fine and performs well - no additional cost. If it wasn't for those two points, I would have gone for the Sanyo - just due to brand presence etc - however, you did say both were similar performers and decent companies - so I guess the Samsung model can't be that much worse. I just hope it 'does what it says on the tin' without giving me too much hassle! Both are find machines and what is important is to evaluate cost vs. what you want and if Samsung made sense, then that is the right solution for you. So thanks for your help mate, you're a top man, I appreciate it. ps. I needed a replacement camera too, and went for a now discontinued Sanyo VCC-ZM400P zoom camera which I picked up for £100 ($133 USD - wow the £ has taken a hammering!) - hope I didn't get a bum deal! You must of gotten this either in ebay or may have been used.. this model was more expensive than $133... so, the price is fairly cheap and as long as it works, then it is a great deal. The ZM400P is succeeded by the VCC-ZM600P but at £467 (652USD) that was a tad too expensive to even consider! If you must have zoom feature that this type of products offer, then it is cheaper than most zoom or ptz version cameras or minidomes. I am sure with some persistency, you probably can find another VCC-ZM400..
