Intellex LT 4.31 Rebooting on application launch
CCTV_Suppliers replied to ednetwork's topic in General Digital Discussion
Lets back up few steps and figure out exactly what you are doing... You are mentioning that you restored version 4.3 patch 7 Intellex software... what is this mean? Are you attempting to get version 4.3 to operate in Window 7 or something else? What was your Intellex version prior of this restore? Did you try to replace the motherboard may be? You are mentiong that device manager shows two items with question marks which I can only assume means no driver has been loaded for them: -Multimedia Controller -PCI Simple Communications Controller This is ok... as the driver for "Multimedia controller" refers to system capture card called VACD card... PCI simple communication on the other hand could be a driver issue... but if you have done correct restore process, then this should not occur... Just share some more info and I am sure we can figure it out. -
TEN Do's & Don'ts for Intellex Systems
CCTV_Suppliers replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Actually, yes and no and here is where the fine line is... If you are "upgrading" Intellex regardless which version, it is a different story. Such upgrades are available strictly from the manufacturer, American Dynamics. When you use either "free" upgrade or "paid" version of the upgrade, you get such solution from the manufacturer, who insures that all the drivers are intact and are part of such upgrade. There are a lot of restrictions and dependent on type of motherboard being used and this task is not reversible. According to few articles from the manufacturer, it is stating that if customers want to take their systems to Win7 environment, there are many other restrictions besides costs. Such articles talk about version of Intellex must be no lower than 4.3 or even 4.2 and even then, no guarantee if it may work. If your are successful to perform such upgrade (when it works, it works very good), then the end results is that Intellex version becomes 5.0 and systems operates in Win7 platform. However, "migration" process is totally different. I tested versions of Intellex from 3.2 all the way to 4.3 and all the variations in between. Since this is a three phase process, Intellex drivers and systems drivers are set differently. The first phase starts preparation of the entire Intellex system version “X” export and creates several files and stores them on pre-defined directory. Such results are to be transported to thumb drive or DVD media or network drive. The second phase is where you prepare your new Win7 system ground up. Most system drivers are already built into Win7 libraries, so once you complete installation, all you have is PC with all drivers working perfectly (make sure you perform all Win7 updates before migration starts). If you require different system drivers, either use motherboard, video card drivers from their respective manufacturers. You also have the choice to change to a different motherboard (AMD based is my preference), power supply, 4GB RAM, new video card with at least 1GB on-board memory, etc. The third phase allows importation of the initial system parameters, even including capture card or VACD drivers respective to such version. When import process is complete, it creates exact the same Intellex directories, short cuts and all the necessary Registry entries and even hard to find Intellex certain drivers. Win7 makes a notation that some of the drivers are not “signed”, but no worries... There are quite of few third party software packages available in the market allowing for such migration. Some are simpler than others and the cost can vary broadly. The absolute end result is that you will notice your version Intellex performing perfectly in Win7 environment. -
TEN Do's & Don'ts for Intellex Systems
CCTV_Suppliers replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
This is a probably a very old post to follow, but I thought I can add few more thoughts on this Intellex topic. In addition to these above 10 options available for Intellex systems, there are few more additional steps available. Since our friends at Microsoft announced that the support of XP platform stops as of April 8, 2014 - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/end-support-help - users for Intellex systems that operate in Win2000 (version 3.0 to 3.2) and Win XP (version 4.0 to 4.3) may have some concerns about their systems integrity or support for the future. Actually there are quite of few companies are facing this dilemma and security departments or IT departments are forced to either buy new Intellex systems or convert what they currently have to a different DVR platforms or going directly to IP solutions.. Most are facing tremendous cost of such conversion regardless what they choose. However... There is no official upgrade from Microsoft to taking existing Win2000 or Win XP operating systems directly to Win7. It posses a question if there is anything else out there that may minimize this pain... and the answer is YES! It is called Win7 Migration using third party based software. Not an easy task, but very much doable. It has taken us roughly (3) three months to conclusively migrate fully functional Intellex 4.x system operating in Win XP platform to Windows 7 operating system and it works like a charm... There are few licenses that must be part of such migration. However, you can take your existing Intellex system and transfer to Win7 and still reuse software keys that were part of your original Intellex systems. No need to buy anything from the manufacturer.. Currently we are looking at few other DVRs from different manufacturers that still operate on XP environment and working towards migrating such systems to Win7 platform. I think the results will be positive considering what we learned migrating Intellex application to the same operating system. We will wait and see the results in near future. Very curious what the members think for upgrading their DVR systems that may be using older Windows operating systems to Win7 platform. -
Intellex DVMS16000 deluxe restore

For 0710-0230-0100 - http://cctvportal.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=0710-0230-0100 For 0710-0231-0100 - http://cctvportal.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=0710-0231-0100 As long as you are matching version vs. restore, these CD set will work... also, make sure that you have the license key from the same area that you found these CD info. Hope this helps. -
Problem with Intellex DVMS DV16000
CCTV_Suppliers replied to 832971's topic in General Digital Discussion
Welcome to this forum... Your Intellex system may be "broken" as you describe, but 100% recoverable. Based on your description of the problem, it seems that your main drive that contains OS and Intellex software is dead - common problem with such systems. You will need what American Dynamics calls it "Restore CD" set allowing you to bring your system back to life. This also will involve replacing your hard drive and cables. While at it, change the power supply with higher rated unit and replace any system fans that it came with (mostly 60mm fans). Now, you have to determine which version Intellex you have - most of such info is located either on the front of such unit or on the bottom. It should state product code that will determine version of Intellex you may have. Based on such product code, you can purchase system restore CD set that will allow you to restore your system back to its original condition. This way if you are using the correct restore process, you can reuse software key which also should be available next to or below of product code. This process is not that difficult, but can be tedious if you are not computer savvy. This process is similar to restoring your XP or Win 7 OS... -
channels 9-16 not showing video on intellex dvms
CCTV_Suppliers replied to cjd572's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Change or replace the video ribbon cable in the back that connects VACD output card to backplane... If this does not work, then get into desktop and reset all Intellex settings... Daughter board controls the second batch of the video output and it is rare for it to fail.. -
You are welcome.

Lets look at this system from a different angle... according to your findings, motherboard and the rest of the components, including the power supply are good... and windows is operating normal... Do the following steps - 1. Make sure to turn Intellex off. Take out the VACD card out and reinsert back to its location and make sure it is sitting correctly in the respective PCI slot and start the machine. If the system still does not recognize, then change the location of the PCI connection on the motherboard and retest... We have seen PCI slot damaged, so it is possible. 2. When you go to Windows device manager, do you see the driver? 3. If the driver is not visible, then you may need to download the correct driver from American Dynamics website - just go to http://www.americandynamics.net, create an account and all the drivers are available. 4. If downloading the capture card or VACD card driver, make sure to match the version of your Intellex vs. the driver that you are downloading. 5. By the way, what version Intellex do you have? A product code can verify it as well, just in case... Give these steps a trial and let us know the outcome. It is possible that your capture card may be damaged, but it is very rare...

You can... but we had excellent results using Western Digital Surveillance Grade drives.. vs. others... our preference that is.

Thanks for getting back to us with more info... What you have now is that the first drive called "System Drive" is partitioned to C: (for Win XP and Intellex application) and E: for storage. It seems that this drive works... What you do is to replace the F: drive - called Data Drive with new drive. You can install another 250GB SATA drive or can push storage capacity up to 2.0TB drive (this is a limitation on what XP OS can see native to OS capabilities). Once the new drive is in place, go to "Disk Management" section and have XP to format it. Once formatted, you will have two choices - one you can add this drive to available storage space via Intellex and still retain available video on drive E: or have outside Intellex function residing on desktop called DriveConfig to have it clear all your existing stored video and combine both drives for storage. While you are performing this task, change the fans and change the power supply as well... these items not that will fail, rather when. Also dust off all the dirt and residue build up inside and outside of the box. Double check all the cables and make sure they are well secured in their respective location. Lastly, pickup CD cleaning kit and have it run in your CD or DVD burner for it to clean your device heads that read and write. You will have smooth sailing thereafter... Good luck and let us know your final results.
-
Few questions... 1. How did you "remove" F-drive - was it through Intellex or through desktop? 2. How many hard drives do you have in the system? 3. Check if the C: drive and E: drive is the same drive except it has been sliced to have System drive (C:) and Storage drive (E:). 4. Check and make sure that the F: drive is still connected correctly inside the machine. Then go to "Disk Management" section and check if "F" drive is still visible and if so, you can have it formatted and available to use. If not, then chances are good that your 250G drive may have taken a fall... All you have to do is to put another hard drive (any size up to 2TB), go to disk management, format it and then have it join your storage capacity of your system. Hope this helps... and let us know your results.

No, you can not... the only way you can get this system up and running is by restore CD sets that will have the OS and the respective version of the Intellex software combined.

Upgrading Calibur by Kalatel DVMRe-16ct help...
CCTV_Suppliers replied to Kaigator's topic in General Digital Discussion
You do not need to format anything.. the system does it automatically at its own. No need to upgrade the firmware either... even if you needed for something (not sure for what reason), it may be very difficult to find it and it requires special software to perform such upgrade.. so do not worry about firmware upgrade. Find PATA drives and install them (make sure to assign the "master" and "slave" jumpers correctly"... also, make sure your power supply can handle the additional power it will need.. otherwise the system will not work correctly. Go with the recommended power supply above... if need one, we stock them just in case and you can PM me for details... -
Upgrading Calibur by Kalatel DVMRe-16ct help...
CCTV_Suppliers replied to Kaigator's topic in General Digital Discussion
You do not have to worry about increasing RAM - however, you can replace the hard drives just fine. What is needed are PATA drives (regular ATA) drives... currently nobody makes them, so search for these type of hard drives online. We were able to install (2) 750GB drives at one point (years ago) and worked great. You probably can find 500GB PATA drives quicker... The only other more important aspect for such upgrade is to change the power supply - to higher amperage and what is available today is the 7.5A 12vdc... check your power supply specs and if it is lower than this spec, then replace it. These systems were shipped with 5A version and there were a lot of issues... later GE upgraded them to 7.5A version. Lastly, change any fans that come with this unit - to insure that there are no heat build ups... Good luck. -
Go with CBC DVRs - here: http://computarganz.com/product_category.cfm?category_id=3 - very easy to use and most of their systems come with embedded OS - works very well - combined with three years warranty.

Intellex - replaced with new motherboard-
CCTV_Suppliers replied to hyena's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
When you say the motherboard was bad - how did you figure out that it is the motherboard? As many Intellex Ultras we repaired in the past, only few that were motherboard damage... most of the problems were related to hard drives, power supplies and capture cards.. Unless you are changing the motherboard with exactly the same type and the same BIOS chip, it will not work - it is controlled by BIOS and then when you attempt to restore the software, it will recognize that it is not exact same motherboard, therefore will not allow restore. MAC address will come in play only if restore is complete and then the issue will arise with Software Key, which tied to your old motherboard mac address... You probably can reuse the existing SW key if you know how to reuse existing MAC address, but that only will work if you can pass the BIOS requirement in restore process. The way it works is that when restore protocol starts, it checks validity of the motherboard... if you closely check, AD added certain code within BIOS not allowing easy transition when someone wants to replace motherboard or better yet, copy the platform. No easy answers, but validate if your motherboards really were bad... if anything, you could have replaced the processor fans and visual inspect the capacitors on the motherboard - if you notice that caps are damaged or warped, then that may be an indication that motherboard is going bad, but that is not the rule... What goes bad mostly in these units are the hard drives - and even flush card that contains all the system OS and Intellex software.. If you need additional info, let me know. -
Once you get the SW key and start Intellex, then the section which allows you to input the software key, gives you your options selecting what type of Intellex, etc...
