How to display different number of cameras in two monitors
CCTV_Suppliers replied to sportmotor's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
What will help if you tell us which DVR are you using? Some DVRs have what is called "Spot" outputs, that allows you to feed video and extend to different monitors... If nothing else, then you can use two different video quads... basically take the looping outputs of each four ports, feed it to the quad and take the output of this video quad to a separate monitor... -

Nobody is mentioning about the HILTI drills? They work great in most cases and operate with different size and length drill bits... I have used them for over 20 years and some of these drills that we have are that old and still working great.

Wide angle lens based minidomes are harder to find lately... One that comes in mind is from Ganz and here are some of its specs: Ganz ZC-D5025NHA 1/3" Color hi-res dome, 540 TVL, 2.3-5mm AI varifocal This minidome gives you varifocal autoiris lens covering from 2.3mm to 5.0mm - I do not know of anyone else making minidome that provides this type of wide angle range of lens... besides, you get excellent video quality picture at 540TVL and it comes with three years warranty... the pricing should be around $250.00 range and I will suggest to shop around.

First of all, they can not ask for the entire hard drive content unless they have a court order of some wrong doing, which then will entitle your local DA to proceed with action against you... You do not have to give the entire content except the clips showing this person stealing your mail. It does not matter what his lawyer says, the law requires the evidence pertinent to the crime and not a broad expectation of finding dirt.. and that is what they will attempt to do showing that you not only targeted him, but also others... None of this matters unless if you want to push this in court of law. You have quite of few positives against this person - the most important is that he is stealing your mail, which is a federal crime punishable by law. It does not matter why he stole it, he did, therefore if anything, your case must be looked at by your local DA, thus you are pursuing a criminal case against him... How did you obtain restraining order against this person? You must of complained with local authorities, they had to legitimize your claim in order to give you restraining order... and that is an evidence that you must of provided.. Dependent who you presented this evidence, I will say that you should present it to your DA's office and start a criminal charges against this person. This way, you are not using your funds using your lawyer and expense the entire lawsuit. You can not force them to pay for damages, as all he did is to steal mail... but I am sure that your local authorities will pursue this with their unlimited budget and if anything, then can make this person an example that it is illegal to steal and even more importantly, steal mail... If his lawyer is in touch with you, then chances are very good that they are preparing a lawsuit against you for "privacy" concerns. If I were you, I will not give them the entire hard drive, rather the video clips pertinent to your claim.. and more importantly, relay such evidence through your personal lawyer.. this way your right are protected. Also, contact the manufacturer of your recorder and ask for documents showing the difficulty or even impossibility on alteration of the video. This way you can and should include the manufacturer in the process... After all, you are using their product, which is or will be challenged in court of law. If the manufacturer is hesitant to cooperate, then you have a decision to make... either drop the entire case or proceed with lawsuit not only against this person stealing your mail, but potentially naming the manufacturer of your recorder as defendant... In the recent years, many manufacturers of recorders are involved in cases with different layers of courts. Validity of the video content is always challenged - everyone is talking about "water marker" that suppose to be identified and legitimize the authenticity of the video... Many of such manufacturers can not produce any real evidence and most of the time, the criminals walk... but some of the manufacturers have very well documented protocol that regardless how extensively gets challenged in the court of law, criminals loose.. What is the make and the model of your recorder? May be we can start from there and see if what you have that could be squashed by defendant's lawyer. You also can challenge their "expert's" opinion - after all, who is paying such expert's fee? What kind of background such expert has, what has been his or her expertise in similar cases, what type of certification does such expert has to qualify for an expert opinion? You can take them apart with such questions, but do you really want to pursue this and do you have the funds for such challenge? That is why my suggestion is to involve your local authorities and I do not mean your local police department. They do not care, as nobody is harmed and there is no physical damage... the people who will be interested are at your DA's office or your City Attorney's office... -
Sanyo produces excellent hardware and their warranty, including tech support service is one of the best in the industry.. It is very simple system to program, to maintain or change... Very strong recommendation for Sanyo!

Ge DVMRE 10-160 jumbled menu! HELP!
CCTV_Suppliers replied to yates fan's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Do you have the installer password? It is 3477. Once you get in, go to communication section, pick ethernet and you will the IP address. While there, restore the firmware to factory default. The password for setting everything back to factory default is 8111 If you can not get into the system or having issues of seeing the screen or other problem, may be something is wrong with the unit. It is not uncommon that the motherboard fails, which basically contains everything... Let me know if the above works... and if not, then it is time to concentrate on the changing the motherboard... that is difficult, as GE is the only one has it and I'm not sure if they will sell it... -
200ft 12V DC Power Cable Run
CCTV_Suppliers replied to doyo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Good observations and the formula to justify voltage drop and what it potentially need to deliver 12VDC and necessary current to fire up the DC camera...... What comes in mind one of such power supplies that will do this trick is made by Altronix and here is the product code: ALTV615DC44ULM - This model can give you variable voltage up to 15VDC with available current level of 4A... Even though this is for 4 camera power supply, 8 and 16 positions are also available. Very easy to use and setup... -

Very correct... Actually some manufacturers use terminology called AGC (Automatic Gain Control). What is new and exciting happening in down_under? Are you still working with Bosch? -
I agree with CollinR's assessment of the DDWRT firmware. Since limitation of documentation, they may not be as popular as Tomato, but then again, they work much better and offer more options that Tomato. DDWRT firmware offers more choices dependent on what you want to do and support more routers and a lot more stable. The only trick about it is that you have to know what you are doing due to limited documentation. I can not add more than what my friend CollinR already covered with the urls. I will only suggest that if you have questions about how to use DDWRT, go to their forum http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/. You can find basically everything that you are looking for about DDWRT.

How long can RG 59 work Cat5e?
CCTV_Suppliers replied to dj29152's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Well my friend, I know the tests that you conducted about this topic and I did not dispute your finding then as a professional courtesy, but I will now. We are exclusively using passive baluns from VU. I know that your test results has shown than this passive balun was not conforming to your requirements, but I have test results that actually came from the manufacturer that can challenge your findings, but I chose at that time not to bring forward. Your test results were not considering the major fact of the quality of the cable used, rather analysis of the loss of video signal using passive baluns. Did you actually try the same exact tests using the same exact passive baluns with different manufacturer CAT5e cables? I know that you did not, as you used the same cable and with different baluns for your tests. All our CAT5e cables come from ADC (Advanced Digital Cable), which we also use exclusively, and passive baluns from VU... and comfortably run 1,500' straight runs without any loss of video quality. Any cable lengths higher than 1,500', we use active baluns from various manufacturers. This is a fact and we use it daily and without any problems! West Penn was our exclusive supplier for over 20 years and guess what, when they dropped the quality of the cable on both RG59 and CAT5e and not including the fact that they raised the pricing tremendously, we had no choice to find another manufacturer and not a supplier... ADC produces excellent quality cable and the produce per order. When we go through over 250,000' of cable usage per month and with excellent results, they leave West Penn or similar companies in the dust because they do not short change on materials. They may not be as large as West Penn, but they make much better cable than most of such companies in the market. The above comments are based on facts and not on assessments on other company's quotes! -
How long can RG 59 work Cat5e?
CCTV_Suppliers replied to dj29152's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
My friend survtech is using "quotes" from some company's perception what the limitations of this cable runs are or should be. I do not want to comment the sources that my friend is using for his assessment, rather a reality check and facts, but if he insists... Are you suggesting that my assessment is outside of the industry standard and I am misleading this post or may be I do not know what I am stating here? survtech, I thought that you know me better than that... We install RG59, RG6, CAT5e and various other cables daily. I know that my experience always provided me with much better options than any biased quotes from any company in the past or presently. I do not understand you intentions in agreeing with these quotes, but that is for you to evaluate. Fact remains - your quotes are inaccurate. Lets look at why, lets say Pelco as an example, will be saying this nonsense and I always question why they say it and their expectations for their audience to follow blind folded - it is called maximizing their returns and here is why... If you believe that your maximum RG59 cable length, lets say using good quality cable with 20 gage center conductor, is 750' and obviously you will need additional hardware to accommodate longer than 750' distance cables runs. This could entail purchasing video amplifiers, video stabilizers, etc. to "insure" that you do not loose video signal quality, thus it is a necessity... Well, my friend, I beg to differ very strongly against this Pelco assessment, as it is not based on facts, rather their biased opinion, which are also based on their scrupulous intentions to screw anyone they can. I can challenge each and every one of your quotes from your sources. But you know, as you have done enough installs at your facilities and probably abroad, that what you are commenting and what you actually had seen are two different results. You want me to get real technical, I can and really prove that any of those quotes are bogus and they are very well designed to undermine the reality and maximize their respective hidden agendas. And that my friend is called creating confusion in the market so that new comers in the business will spend more than necessary to accommodate installation. I should not be stating anymore than comments above. I firmly believe that it is not a good practice for a technical guru like yourself can fall into this type of trap and being biased with such nonsense. Sorry my friend, at this time, I disagree with you 100%! -
American Dynamics Virtual Matrix (VMK) solution
CCTV_Suppliers replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in System Design
VMK software is dependent on processor cycle, but it is not a processor intensive application. Rather, you have to find happy medium between your processor and the video cards. In my last build, we delivered four VMK workstations, two of which are to control two monitors and the rest are to control four monitors. What actually became obvious in this last job was the fact that you do not want to use some cheapo monitors regardless of the size. The main trick is to make sure that you do not use more than native resolution of the monitor (you can, but...). Also when you strip down majority of the services running in the XP background, it helps tremendously. Running four monitors with a single VMK showed clearly that the overal quad core proc was using less than 50% of its capacity, and the application was taking full advantage of the newest ATI video cards (HD4870) with newest GPU chips... This site also had a 30+" plasma monitor and we were able to push its maximum 1920X1080 resolution and the outcome was exceptional.. no hesitation of any sort for the video overlays coming from four different Intellex systems on the same monitor (total of 64 camera shots).. I have another request right now where a customer wants to drive 60" plasma with this workstation and ability to view total of 30+ Intellex systems from his stores right at his office.. The solution for this application is much simpler, as all it needs is to have two of these video cards running in crossfire mode and then push the resolution to plasma native... and then he can arrange all his 30+ Intellex shots throughout this plasma. We had a similar job few weeks ago that required no more than 10 Intellex system on a monitor and with correct hardware list, we achieve the goal and overall system performance without any hesitation of the video stream. -
Anyone familiar with American Dynamics Virtual Matrix software? It is a solution that virtually eliminates any need of using Video Matrix hardware, including keyboards if necessary. This way there is no need to purchase very expensive Video Matrix hardware (for Casino environment, typical 1,024 or higher switchers are standard) and instead, all its functionality is spread between few workstations. Coupled with redundancy that can exist with hot swappable drives, hot swappable workstations, it makes perfect economical sense to get away from these very expensive matrix switchers, thus increase life expectancy of such systems and yet provide more cost effective maintenance path in the long term. After playing around with software for some time now, it was obvious that the hardware requirements for this type of solution is not easy to obtain in the market. Quite of few end users were buying the best hardware solutions available from Dell and HP and yet, still having serious video “draggingâ€

How long can RG 59 work Cat5e?
CCTV_Suppliers replied to dj29152's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Here are realistic industry standard numbers that you can use. Decent quality RG-59 cable only can extend as long as 1,000'. This is the norm for this cable and without any arguments. Unless if you are using some cheapo cable made by who knows where, then this is the figure that is industry standard. As for the CAT5e cable, again, if you are using decent cable, with good passive baluns, your maximum cable length is 1,500'... Some variables that must be under consideration and part of the equation - make sure that you do get good quality cable and then good quality passive baluns. There is too much junk in the market with various claims, most of which is nothing more than just a "claim". Also, if you have to extend CAT5e cable over 1,000', make sure you do not splice this cable for longer distance. Rather buy the cable with roll of 1,500 length and stretch to the distance. Trust me, IT WORKS GREAT! If you need further than 1,500' stretch of video signal using CAT5e cable, then you must use active baluns and there is no substitute for this solution. As for power cable (for the camera), your best bet is not to exceed more than 250' length using 18/2 cable... or better yet, provide local power to the camera within 25' distance. Again, you can extend this power cable further (dependent if you are pushing DC or AC voltage), then you will need power supply with variable voltage control, so that you can adjust the voltage at the beginning to archive your desired voltage level at the camera end. I do not recommend this at all, as the cost could escalate, but if this is the only choice, then there are solid solutions in place from various sources, mainly from Altronix. -
I am not sure why you have to stay with 320GB internal storage nor your hard drive speed should be 5400RPM... Pick up two 500GB or even 750GB PATA drives, configure "master" and "slave" and increase your storage to 1TB to 1.5TB internal... Works perfectly and we have done quite of few to prove them... Do not pay attention to "power requirements" of your outside power supply - it provides more juice than you think and with higher RPM drives, you hare fine... As for the the file that you need to install after such replacement of drives, I tried to upload it, but forum did not accept... Instead, please contact GE tech support and they will give you the url... you must be logged into their website before you can download this file.

TEN Do's & Don'ts for Intellex Systems
CCTV_Suppliers replied to CCTV_Suppliers's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Once you overcome the initial fright on working with this type of hardware, the rest is a breeze... Same applies to DVRs from Bosch Windows based machines, most of Sanyo embedded machines, most GE, CBC, Panasonic and other embedded machines... The trick is always to have the hardware to play with and then move components around... Most of embedded systems are easier to manipulate in terms of internal storage and most of the time you can achieve much higher storage at much lower cost than what manufacturers state. Good luck and if you have any questions about your system, do not hesitate to address them..
